The management for North Carolina rock n roll five piece Curse Your Name have finally announced a release date for their highly anticipated, self-titled debut release as March 31st. The group has been working hard on this project since their stint on the widely popular MTV show "Battle For Ozzfest" under the band name "Cynder."
Vocalist Ryan Camp comments: "We feel that with the current state of the music business, it's in our best interest to go ahead and release this album on our own now and get it to the fans. We think they have waited long enough for this and we don't really want to have to rely on a label to help put this thing out. We believe that this album captures the sound that we have been looking for and we think that fans of our old stuff and new fans are really going to appreciate it."
Curse Your Name's new CD can be found online worldwide in all major digital music stores MARCH 31st.
Finnish black metallers GLORIA MORTI will release their sophomore album, "Eryx", in Finland on March 12 via Stay Heavy Records. Recorded, engineered and mixed by Juho Räihä, the CD will contain the following track listing:

Swedish death metal "supergroup" BLOODBATH announced earlier today that OPETH's Mikael Åkerfeldt has laid down the vocal tracks for the band's new mini-CD, which is expected to be issued later in the year. "It's been kept secret since the summer of 2007 when Mike was asked to record vocals for four new tracks destined to be released as the 'Unblessing of Purity' EP," reads a posting on the OPETH web site. "Also, the now legendary Wacken 2005 appearance DVD will come out in a near future through Peaceville Records. On top of this, there are plans to record another full-length record which will be the third since the band was formed in 1999. This will possibly be recorded during 2008."
BLOODBATH 2008 is:
Mikael Åkerfeldt - Vocals
Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström - Guitar
Per "Sodomizer" Eriksson - Guitar

NACHTMYSTIUM has posted the following blog on their MySpace site, giving an update on the recording of "Assassins" and announcing the departure and replacement of their current bassist of three years, Zion Meagher:
"First and foremost, we've completed tracking for our new record, "Assassins", to be released on Century Media in N. America and Candlelight Records in Europe. The record has been a complete success thus far, and we anticipate that mixing sessions (scheduled for the end of this month) will pull everything together for the next chapter in our black book of music. Expect more info, a finished track to be posted, and a release date soon! The original release date of April 1st, 2008 has been pushed back due to the delays in mixing.
"Unfortunately, we're sad to say that "Assassins" will stand as Zion Meagher's final work with Nachtmystium. Zion has parted ways with the Mystium to pursue his personal life and his own new musical project, Anti-Human Thesis. Our touring schedule was becoming very conflicting with his personal career outside of music and it was becoming more and more apparent that he was not going to be able to continue on with us as a full-time member, which this band is in desperate need of with our busy schedule we have planned for ourselves in the near future. We salute him for over 3 years of dedicated service, through thick and thin with this band, and we wish him all the best with his new project.
"We are proud to announce that Jon Necromancer (ex-USURPER / current KOMMANDANT) will be joining us as a session member on our European tour this May! Beyond this tour, however, there will be an active pursuit for a new, permanent bass player for Nachtmystium. We are currently preparing to hold auditions in the coming months. Interested parties, feel free to contact us. Extensive touring, and a full-time commitment is expected of any potential member, so if touring / traveling is out of the question for you, this is not the gig for you. 21+, must have your own (good) gear, a drivers license, valid passport, no criminal background, and the willingness to commit 100% to this project exclusively are a must. Serious applicants only."
COLISEUM has announced a number of spring tour dates in support of its recent release, "No Salvation".
COLISEUM, who recently completed a three-week European headlining tour, will first team up with STRIKE ANYWHERE and RIVERBOAT GAMBLERS in early March before meeting up with Relapse labelmates GENGHIS TRON later in the month. COLISEUM will then join in on the CONVERGE, THE RED CHORD, and GENGHIS TRON tour in mid-April. A complete listing of COLISEUM tour dates can be found here.
COLISEUM released "No Salvation" last August and has been touring in support of its release ever since.
HeavyHeavyLowLow enters the studio this week to begin recording a new album. The effort will be tracked by Sam Pura (Moria) at The Panda Studios in Oakland, California and is expected to hit streets this spring via Ferret Music/New Weathermen Records.
Ibex Moon Records have just re-released the latest PENTACLE album "Under The Black Cross" as a digipack CD with lyrics and the NECROVORE cover "Divus De Mortuus" as bonus track (recorded during the album's sessions). For those who are interested, you can obtain a copy from PENTACLE directly by transfering 15 Euros / 18 US Dollars (including P&P) to their PayPal account (email@example.com). For other payment, please visit the For Sale section on the Pentacle website.
Miami, Florida's TORCHE will release its second full-length CD, "Meanderthal", on April 8 through the Hydra Head imprint (vinyl to be released on Robotic Empire). Recorded throughout November 2007 at Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts, the 13-track album is TORCHE's first with Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE, GENGHIS TRON, DISFEAR) at the helm.
Commented Andy Low of Robotic Empire, "Having built a unique sound with their self-titled debut and follow-up 'In Return' EP, TORCHE fully realize their potential with their most infectious recordings to date. No amount of heaviness is compromised on 'Meanderthal', an album that should fuel fans heavy fix as well as their undeniable need for catchiness." More...
Finnish "modern" death metallers PERFECT CHAOS have parted ways with longtime bassist Antti Holappa and have replaced him with Olli-Pekka Karvonen (EMBRAZE, MAPLE CROSS, NORMAL FIGURES). "[Olli-Pekka] will bring a lot of new elements to the band and on the next album you'll hear some sick bass stuff!" the band writes in a statement. "And we're doing some adjustement to our live set also...nasty stuff!!"
PERFECT CHAOS' latest album, "The Eightbound Five", was released this past November.

Finnish "love metallers" HIM will release their new CD/DVD, "Digital Versatile Doom: Live at the Orpheum Theatre", on March 11 through Warner. The set was recorded/filmed at the band's November 14-15, 2007 concerts at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
HIM's latest video, "Bleed Well", which features footage for from the Los Angeles shows, can be viewed below.
HIM frontman Ville Valo recently spoke to Straight.com about his songwriting process. "It's very hard to sing about sunshine and ice cream and birds in fast cars . . . I'm a miserable bastard when it comes to writing music," he said. "I love melancholy music, and I love the darker aspects when it comes to, like, popular music. I've always been a big fan of [BLACK] SABBATH and all that, so obviously they've been a big influence on me, and I wanted to write music that would have a similar kind of gloomy atmosphere to it."
In 2003, HIM released an album called "Love Metal", which featured a gold "heartagram" — a cross between a heart and a pentagram — on the cover. The group has trademarked that yin-yang symbol, which Valo created the day after his 20th birthday, and has taken the "love metal" concept to heart.
"When we started out, a lot of people had a hard time deciding which category we belonged to, because we had the sort of SABBATH-y thing, but at the end of the day we're singing love songs," Ville said. "It wasn't goth and it wasn't rock and it wasn't metal–it was something in between. One of the first songs we ever played was 'Wicked Game' by CHRIS ISAAK, where we put all the really fuzzy, heavy guitars on it, so I guess love metal just sounded good. And you actually have to be a proper man to be able to say that you like love metal." More...
SEVENDUST guitarist John Connolly has confirmed that the band will take part in the upcoming Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour, which will play around 30 Live Nation amphitheaters in North America during July and August. The trek will be co-headlined by SLIPKNOT and DISTURBED, with MASTODON and FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH also expected to appear on the bill, alongside a number of yet-to-be-announced acts.
Connolly revealed SEVENDUST's participation in the trek during a live webcast from the Dean Guitars booth at at this year's winter NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show, which was held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
Lucem Fero has issued an interview with ARCH ENEMY drummer Daniel Erlandsson, conducted by Welsh interviewer Anthony Morgan. The following is an excerpt:
Q: Is there a reason why Arch Enemy worked with Fredrik (Nordström) again, after all those years?
A: "Yeah. We did a few albums with Andy Sneap, and he also mixed a DVD (2006's Live Apocalypse) for us. We had worked with Andy for a couple of years, so we wanted to try something slightly different. In some ways, we set out to have a slightly more aggressive album in terms of the sound. With Andy Sneap, you get a really clear, clinical and precise production. Andy's production is awesome in its own way. We wanted to try something different though, and that was the idea."
Q: Could you tell me about your personal contributions to Rise Of The Tyrant?
A: "Yeah. Apart from drumming, my personal contribution to Rise of the Tyrant was just being part of the whole writing process. As Chris (Amott) had obviously left the group before, I arranged the songs together with Michael (Amott) this time around. When Chris returned, we already had most of the album written. He had some ideas that surfaced on the album, but it was mostly me and Michael who rehearsed the songs."
Q: What was it like getting Chris back onboard?
A: "It's great; it's good to have him back. He missed out on two years of touring basically, though he played on Doomsday Machine (2005). For that reason, he wasn't really out of the group so to speak. Chris returning is like a family member returning."
Q: When Arch Enemy filmed the video for 'Revolution Begins', your hair reportedly caught fire. Is that correct?
A: "It's partially correct, although the story has been exaggerated."
Q: Could you set the record straight as concerns that story?
A: "Yeah. It didn't really catch fire that way. I actually had a wall of fire behind me when I played drums, and the wind changed. The fire didn't actually touch my hair but it got too close. For that reason, it basically got too warm. It basically melted one of the sides of my hair, and it frizzed up. I had to cut my hair a little bit."
Q: It has been mentioned that Arch Enemy intends to re-record some of the songs from the albums recorded with Johan (Liiva, erstwhile vocalist). Is that correct?
Q: Are there any dates planned for recording of those songs?
A: "Yeah, we're actually talking about recording them in early 2008. We've talked about doing this for years now. There's a lot of songs that we really like which are featured on those albums, but we can't really play them live as most of our fans discovered us after Angela (Gossow) joined the group. The idea is to release an album, and to be able to play those songs live."
Q: You've been asked to fill in for Ken Owen for upcoming CARCASS shows, so can you tell me about that? How did that come about? Is it Michael who asked you?
A: "Yeah, he asked me to do it. I think one of the reasons Michael asked me is due to the fact he knows me as a drummer, and we obviously rehearse. I have my drums set up in our rehearsal space, and that's where Carcass have been meeting up and rehearsing."
Q: Is it going to be difficult filling in for Ken? Obviously, Ken has health issues which is the reason you're going to be behind the drum-kit. Is it going to be difficult living up to what people remember from those old Carcass shows?
A: "I'm not going to involve too much of my personal flavour, put it that way. I'm going to try to emulate his playing as well as I can."

The Pulse of Radio reports that Rob Zombie updated the official MySpace page for his animated movie, "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto", on Monday (January 28), indicating that he had completed his tour with OZZY OSBOURNE and was ready to resume work on the film. Zombie wrote, "Well, the tour is over and now it is 'Superbeasto' time. Starting on Monday, I am back and ready to kick ass on 'Beasto'. Stay tuned this thing is coming your way soon! Finally!" The adult-oriented animated flick is based on a character Zombie created for his Spookshow International series of comic books a few years back.
Although Zombie hinted last year that he was writing some new songs for the "Superbeasto" soundtrack, he said in a recent conference call with reporters that he hadn't settled on music for the film yet. "Musically, that's the only aspect that's not finished, so we're still working on that," he said. "Glenn Garland, who was, well, he did 'Halloween' for me and then we cut the director's cut, he is now editing 'Superbeasto', so that is pretty much almost a hundred percent done. I mean, it's basically finished."
Actor Paul Giamatti and Zombie's wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, have both contributed their voices to "El Superbeasto".
The unrated director's cut of Zombie's latest film, a remake of the horror classic "Halloween", arrived on DVD last month after becoming a surprise box office hit in September.
Zombie has been on the road since last fall with Ozzy, touring in support of his first-ever concert album, "Zombie Live".
American power metallers ICED EARTH have been confirmed for Chicago Powerfest 2008, set to take place on May 1-3 at The Pearl Room in Mokena, Illinois. This will be Iced Earth's very first performance since the return of vocalist Matt Barlow.
Iced Earth founder Jon Schaffer had the following comments about their upcoming performance at the Powerfest: "A big hello goes out to all of our friends in Chi-town! I'm very happy to announce that Iced Earth will be playing our first gig of '08 and our first gig with Matt Barlow back behind the mic at the Chicago Powerfest. It's an honor and a privilege that our first show re-united with Matt is in Chicago. This was the first city to really embrace Iced Earth back in 1997 when we started our U.S. "campaign." It was also the passion of our Chicago fan base that was a big reason for the band moving out of Florida and into the Midwest. We LOVE Chicago, we have a lot of friends there and many great memories. It's only fitting that we kick off the next chapter in the city that's always been so important to Iced Earth and our history. This very special night will be a celebration of our past as well as a celebration of a bold and bright future for Iced Earth and our fans. We look forward to seeing you all there! It's going to be something special, guaranteed!"
Festival organizers, CRJ Productions, also commented: "After months of going after Iced Earth, we're so ecstatic to finally make this announcement. With Iced Earth & Testament both headlining the Powerfest this year, we whole-heartedly believe that this will one of the most anticipated American festivals of 2008 & we're looking forward to seeing the hoard of frenzied metal fans enjoying the fest right along side us."
Also scheduled to appear with Iced Earth and TESTAMENT, are Sweden's DARKANE, Germany's SUIDAKRA, Finland's ENSIFERUM and TURISAS, Denmark's TYR, Switzerland's ELUVEITIE, Florida's THE AUTUMN OFFERING, Chicago's TWELFTH GATE and Italy's CHAOSWAVE.
Tickets for the Iced Earth headlining show (May 2) will go on sale this Saturday, February 2nd at all Ticketmaster locations and The Pearl Room box office. Single day tickets for the Powerfest kick-off with Paganfest show (May 1) and the Testament headlining show (May 3) are available now.
More updates, including additional bands for the Friday (May 2) lineup, coming soon. For all current information regarding Powerfest, visit www.ChicagoPowerfest.com and www.myspace.com/chicagopowerfest.
Los Angeles thrash metal legends SLAYER have been confirmed for the Gods of Metal festival, set to take place June 27-29, 2008 in Bologna, Italy. The festival billing is now shaping up as follows:
Friday, June 27:
Saturday, June 28:
AT THE GATES
Sunday, June 29:
National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences members have nominated SLAYER for the band's third Grammy Award. The SLAYER track, "The Final Six", from the group's 2007 limited-edition "Christ Illusion", was nominated in the category of "Best Metal Performance."
"The Final Six", written by Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman and produced by Josh Abraham, is a chilling look at an hypothesized end of the world. The song made its debut last July as the "Single of the Week" on MySpace where it has since accumulated some 750,000 plays, an astounding number for a song that received no commercial airplay.
"When I first got the word, I thought someone was playing a joke," mused Araya. "But obviously, we've made an impression on the industry. The people at the upper levels have taken notice of what we've done, and that's awesome."
SLAYER's two previous Grammy nominations were for 2002's "Disciple" from the album "God Hates Us All", and last year's "Eyes of the Insane", for which they took home the Grammy Award.
Ray Waddell of Billboard.com reports that the Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour, with SLIPKNOT and DISTURBED topping the bill, will play 30 Live Nation amphitheaters in North America during July and August.
Rockstar Mayhem is produced by Warped founder Kevin Lyman, his partner on the Rockstar Taste Of Chaos tour John Reese, CAA's Darryl Eaton, and Jason Garner, Live Nation Chief Executive Officer of North American Music.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH is the only other band that has confirmed its participation in the trek.
According to MTV.com, SEVENDUST, MASTODON, DRAGONFORCE, SUICIDE SILENCE and WALLS OF JERICHO are among the groups that are also rumored to be taking part in the Rockstar Mayhem Tour.
March 31st will see DREAM THEATER release their Forsaken EP. The title track 'Forsaken', which is taken from 2007's Systematic Chaos, will be joined on the EP by two live tracks recorded in Spain last year.
The full tracklisting is as follows: 'Forsaken' (edit), 'Forsaken' (live), 'Constant Motion' (live).

VADER's mainman Peter (vocal, guitars) has answered some questions concerning the band's very successful 2007 and their special plans for 2008...
Q: For Vader, 2007 abounded in many interesting events. Tours, festivals, "The Witcher"... any comments?
A: "Sure. You're right, 2007 was a pretty busy year for Vader... as usual. The whole time we spent being mostly promoting our fresh album Impressions In Blood. Taking part on big and important festivals in summer was also vital for the band. We could show our potential to many thousands of fans sharing the stage with big names. Besides we did successful tours In Japan, Scandinavia and Russia. In the last months of 2007 we played the second part of Blitzkrieg 4 in Poland and the awesome Death By Decibels Tour in the USA. Important events included Vader recording 'Sword of the Witcher' (which was a special song composed for PC RPG game "The Witcher" - that already gained big success in the world) and DVD ...And Blood Was Shed in Warsaw (recording of the live performance in Capitol of Poland). In 2007 we also started recording XXV - Vader's 25th aniversary album."
Q: You are at the end of the recording process of band's anniversary album. Could you give us some more details?
A: "We were recording the album in a few parts - using free time in between the tours. Again the producers were Wieslawski Bros. at Hertz Studios. XXV is a double album including 25 of Vader's hits from early days recorded from scratch. 90% of the entire material are songs from first three albums and mini CDs, realized in between previously never released songs from very beginning of the band. We plan to prepare a special edition of XXV with three additional bonus songs (yes, it gives 28 pieces total!!!) and DVD including never released live clips copied from rare and old VHS tapes. There will be guests appearing as well... Now we are about to finalize mastering and graphics so the album should be out in May, 2008."
Q: New year, new challenges. First and foremost - the band's 25th anniversary!!!! You will appear on anniversary tours in Europe/ USA. There will be also a special, extraordinary gig in Poland...
A: "Yeah, 2008 is a very special year for the band - because it means that Vader has created metal for 25 bloody years already! In 1983 me and Zbiggy "Vika" Wroblewski decided to play extreme metal and... we started Vader!!! So besides the anniversary album we will prepare a special set for the upcoming European Tour in April/ May/ June, when XXV will be available. In the last days of August we're gonna play an extraordinary show in Poland (Warsaw) where our fans can take a part in a two hour concert and follow the story of Vader's music. There will be also some famous guests (and Vader's friends for years) appearing that night. Several surprises may occur. In 2008 we also tour with the Summer Slaughter Fest. In USA in June/ July and in Scandinavia in the fall. Important for Vader is also taking a part in the biggest metal fest in Poland (in March) called Metalmania , where we played back in 1986 on the first edition of that festival..."
Q: You are about to release your new, anniversary DVD? Why?
A: "Yes - we will unleash this special show in Warsaw in August on the DVD. Why? First- because this is 25th aniversary show, which may happen only once and we have prepared a special long set for this evening. The other reason is that we want to record it in a non-standard way, giving our fans a chance to watch not only the set itself BUT also how the band members prepare themselves and... the job of the whole team, that being usually unnoticed work that is pretty hard as well. A stage... but also backstage, sound checks, guitar changes etc."
Q: Any plans for the next full length studio album?
A: "Yesss! In 2008 we start recording of our very new album named temporarily The Book Of The Dead. Like the title says ...this is gonna be a very "in Vader tradition-like" record and... but this is secret yet. The album should be in stores in May, 2009."
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has issued the following update:
"10 songs done for the new Crüe album so far. I'm very proud of the songs, I think we're onto some of the better songs we've had in years... time will tell of course.
A couple of song titles on the Crüe album are called 'A Scar On Hollywood Blvd.', and 'The Saints Of Los Angeles'. As it's been leaked out before, this is no surprise... but the album is called The Dirt and lyrically follows the story of the Mötley Crüe bestseller "The Dirt".
It's challenging and exciting to have to write songs into time capsules spreading over years... I've written a lot of songs with Mick Mars, of course along with James Michael, Marti Frederickson and DJ Ashba... the chemistry in the studio as we're writing is unbelievable. I look forward to leaking some to you all in the next few months.
I haven't gotten anything tattooed in years except "Tag Here" on my toe... I think it's time to step in up, I'm feeling the itch. Kat's gonna do one probably this weekend. I've been wanting to get "Los Angeles" tattooed on me for ages and then the other day I noticed Kat has it on her left shoulder. We both have had so much happen in our lives in this city, why not make it permanent. The band started it here, I've died here, had kids, married and divorced here... my life is "Los Angeles"...
Proudly not smoking still, and still sober 7 years this July... Amazing the decisions you make when you think of others first... and you get that by becoming selfless and that is a huge part of getting to the core of your issues...
What a fucking great year... I can feel it in my bones."

Amber Healy of the Springfield Connection reports that Jaxx owner Jay Nedry recently made the announcement he's considering selling the West Springfield, Virginia heavy metal club he has owned since 1994.
But music fans take note: he is not completely sure the sale will go through.
With an asking price of $1.2 million for the 7,000 square foot venue on Rolling Road south of Old Keene Mill Road, any prospective buyer has to meet Nedry's high standards and his conditions.
"Anyone who buys this place will have to pay an additional fee to keep me on as a consultant for a year," Nedry said.
"I've owned this place longer than anyone," he said. "I've worked hard to make this one of the top 10 metal venues in the world. I know how to make this place run without annoying any of our neighbors. I need to find someone who will take this place over and maintain the positive things I've worked for."

THEORY OF A DEADMAN will release their Howard Benson produced album Scars & Souvenirs on April 1 through Roadrunner Records. Album art and song goodness is available here.
Guitarist Isaac Delahaye of the Dutch death metal band GOD DETHRONED has issued the following update:
"A little while ago our long time drummer Ariën Van Weesenbeek announced he would join the ranks of Dutch gothic metal rockers EPICA, leaving us no other choice than to let him go. We do understand his career move and we wish him all the best of luck for the future, and we'd like to thank him for all the years of pure blasphemy. We will play a farewell show with Ariën on March 28th at the Mezz club in Breda, Holland."
"At the same time we are happy to announce the return of Roel Sanders, our drummer on the 'Grand Grimoire' and 'Bloody Blasphemy' albums!!! Roel left GOD DETHRONED in the summer of 2000, but this time he's back to stay with us till the end. Some of you may also know him as the drummer for INHUME (and don't worry, he will continue with that band too)." More...

Dutch melodic thrashers DETONATION will headline the Avalanchefestival in Delhi, India on February 22. Avalanche is the heavy-music portion of the four-day cultural Moksha festival, an annual event organized at the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (N.S.I.T.).
Commented the band: "Up to now, India hasn't been the most obvious choice for metal bands to tour. Past few years, however, the Indian metal scene has been growing rapidly with a new breed a quality metal bands emerging, and with renowned international acts as MEGADETH, IRON MAIDEN and SEPULTURA announcing tours to India. We're very excited to be among the first wave of international metal acts to play Indian and very proud to be the first heavy Dutch act ever to do so"
Germany's HEAVEN SHALL BURN have announced headline tour dates in support of their new album, Iconoclast. Guitarist Maik Weichert comments:
"Along with our release shows in Germany, we’re glad to announce our headliner tour running also through several European countries. Besides playing our new songs to the European fans we will use this opportunity to cover some white spots in our home country. With this tour we try to focus on some countries that we haven’t visited for quite a while, but that have been very supportive to us in the past."
"Furthermore, we’re thrilled to finally celebrate the 'birthday' of our new record and despite the fact that we already know how our new baby looks and sounds, it is always a special moment to finally see it hit the stores. We hope you will love the new HSB-family member as much as we do!"

The following story was posted at Heraldtribune:
In the drizzling rain, five scared boys with perfect rock 'n' roll hair stood on the sidewalk in front of Sarasota pub the Irish Rover. Brian Johnson, rock legend, lead singer for AC/DC, bounced in between them, infinitely energetic. Years of screaming "Back in Black" haven't taken a toll on Johnson's vocal cords, nor has the occasional cigarette. Ten eyes, wide with fear, never left Johnson's face. The boys heard every syllable he spoke with an accent as thick as the day he left England.
"The first time you'll never forget," Johnson told them. "Your first time on stage, you'll never match. "This is a special time, my boys, you'll be excellent. Remember to look at your audience; look 'em in the eye." The band, Bad Sara, consists of four middle-schoolers and a high school freshman; Alex Rappaport, 14, Garrett Moore, 13, Mike Magazino, 14, James Hyde, 13, and Austin Bowman, 15.
About a month ago, Garrett recognized Johnson's wife, Brenda, in a parking lot and handed her a CD that he and his friends recorded in his garage. Garrett sings lead and writes most of the lyrics. Alex and James write their guitar parts and Mike "just comes in on drums, like magic." Garrett said. Brenda liked the CD so she gave it to her husband. "Not bad for homemade," Johnson growled. "All you could hear was cymbals and vowels, but I said to myself, 'they've got something, something that needs to be nurtured.'"
Brian Johnson interjected: "I heard 'em, I liked 'em, but there is no jumping off place in Sarasota for a rock band. "So I call my friend Duff, (Paul Duffy, owner of the Irish Rover), and I tell him, give 'em a chance,'" he added. Duffy agreed, and Bad Sara packed the place. It was standing room only; children, teenagers and adults stood on chairs to see the boys play. They opened with "Get to Me," and "My Way," both original compositions. The band followed with songs by Nazareth, Black Crowes and Guns N' Roses.
Johnson was not the only well-known musician at the Rover: Donald "Duck" Dunn, an accomplished studio bass player who played with the original Blues Brothers Band and Skid Row guitarist Scotti Hill offered encouragement and musical support to the boys. Out of the blue, with ultimate cheek, Alex launched into the opening chords of AC/DC's smash hit "Highway to Hell." Garrett decided to surprise Johnson by "covering a few of the songs that helped make Brian a rock legend." Johnson, vibrating with excitement, could no longer contain himself. He jumped to his feet and joined the boys on stage for "Shook Me All Night Long" and "Thunderstruck." "Not many people ever get the opportunity to do something like this. Scotti, Brian and Duck signed my guitar; I feel like I'm in a dream," Austin said.
