Saxon 'Refreshed, Recharged, and Ready to Rock'

The following was posted on Saxon's official website:

Saxon, whose title track off their album Denim and Leather was seen as an anthem of the early 1980s metal movement are British through and through and are returning with the band's full European production - including their legendary Eagle

Refreshed, re-charged and ready to rock, the mighty Saxon have a whole new sound and hunger after working with renowned producers Mark Wallis and David Ruffy of Razorlight, U2 and The Stranglers

Their brand new single 'If I Was You' - about gun culture - is released on SPV Records on January 20th and this will be closely followed by a celebrated 18th Studio album "The Inner Sanctum" released early in March

Their new album offers powerful sounds and ambitioned lyrics about Eastern Revolutions, British Kings and Queens and the attitude of Great Warriors.
At the same time, the lead vocalist Biff Byford displays an energy that's almost physically perceptible. Byford rightly explains: "The Inner Sanctum" is the most powerful album we've ever recorded." The following tour is the biggest tour the band has ever done in Europe!"

He also notes about their new single "I wrote the lyrics for our new single based on gun and knife crime having seen so many tragic stories of somebody getting knifed to death for a mobile phone and three quid or some young mother caught in the crossfire between two idiots with guns. "If I was you and you were me, would you live your life differently?"

If that's not enough, they are also going to mark the release of the new single on worldwide download, and their return to the British metal scene with an electrifying new Guinness World Record for 'Air Guitar' at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club on Saturday the 20th January.

Have you got what it takes to make history and join around 30,000 strong fans at Hillsborough Stadium to rock out with the mighty Saxon?

Dave Holland Guilty of Raping Special Needs Teen

Rock drummer David Holland has been convicted of trying to rape a special needs youngster.

Holland was also found guilty of five charges of indecently assaulting the teenager.

The musician, who played with the band Judas Priest in the 1970s and 1980s, was convicted of the charges at Northampton Crown Court on Friday.

Holland, 55, of The Green, Stoke Bruerne, who denied all the charges, was convicted on majority verdicts.

All the offences took place at the drummer's Northamptonshire home between June and December 2002 when he was giving the 17-year-old drumming lessons.

Judge Charles Wide QC said he was very concerned about the risk Holland presented to adolescent boys and remanded him in custody for a pre-sentence report.

"I in particular would be interested in an assessment of the risk Mr Holland poses to adolescent young men," Judge Wide said.

Holland's co-accused, Spiros Laouitaris, 22, of Bourne Crescent, Kings Heath, Northampton, was earlier acquitted of three separate charges of indecently assaulting the same teenager, who is now 18, but who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Smokin' Aces Soundtrack Has Motorhead, Trivium

SMOKIN’ Aces director Joe Carnahan claims to be heavily influenced by music, which is reflected in some of his casting for the action-thriller given that it boasts impressive acting debuts for Alicia Keys and Common, as well as The Tremor Brothers.

The film itself takes its cues from movies such as Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, as well as Tony Scott’s True Romance and Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and, as such, boasts a soundtrack that captures the mad energy and cool vibe attached to proceedings.

We’re talking music from the likes of Motorhead, with their seminal Ace Of Spades that’s featured to such excellent effect in the trailer, to Outkast’s typically stylish Spottieottiedopalicious.

The tracklisting is as follows:
1. The Prodigy – First Warning
2. Motorhead – Ace of Spades
3. The stooges – Down on the Street
4. Common feat. Bilal – Play Your Cards Right
5. Skull Snaps – Tresspassin
6. Nilton Castro – Segura O Sambura
7. Bernard Pretty Purdie – Touch Me Again
8. Joe Baton – Under The Street Lamp

Cristina Scabbia Talks About The Jagermeister Tour

LACUNA COIL will embark on the latest installment of the Jägermeister Music Tour this spring alongside Stone Sour and Shadows Fall. The trek, which kicks off on March 23rd and runs through early May, is the group's fourth U.S. run in support of their Karmacode album. They will be swapping out the direct support slot with Shadows Fall in certain markets, so please see the tour section for the itinerary and full breakdown.

"It's about time!" says Scabbia about being part of the Jager Tour. "It'll be a blast, and you guys can't miss it cause it's going to be the tour of the year! See you all there... spread the word...and horns up, my friends."

The tour also coincides with the launch of their new single for the track "Within Me." This is the fourth single from Karmacode, and a new video for the track will be shot in Italy early next month.

LACUNA COIL wrapped up 2006 with a U.S. tour as direct support to In Flames with The Sword and Seemless in the support slots. This was preceded by a highly successful run on the annual Blackest of the Black tour alongside the legendary Danzig, labelmates The Haunted, Belphegor and Asesino. Other numerous highlights of this past year included a main stage Ozzfest slot, a sold-out tour with Rob Zombie, a performance on ABC-TV's Jimmy Kimmel Live and a Top 30 Active Rock hit single, "Our Truth."

Prosthetic Records To Re-Release The Funeral Pyre

Prosthetic Records will re-release the latest full-length from Los Angeles' THE FUNERAL PYRE in a licensing deal for worldwide re-release March 20, 2007 through a deal with Bay Area indie label Creator-Destructor Records. Originally released last year through Bay Area label Creator-Destructor Records, the band has been garnering praise through non-stop touring. Channeling melodic death metal and Norwegian black metal alike, THE FUNERAL PYRE takes on the two legendary genres in what has to be billed as a welcome addition to LA’s crowded extreme music scene. Locking in over 100 shows throughout 2006 alone in support of the band’s second full-length, the band cites At The Gates, Shai Hulud, Dissection and Emperor as influences on the band's MySpace page. Having recently returning from a five week tour through November and December, THE FUNERAL PYRE will return to the road in March, but not before playing shows in Southern California on their own.

Napalm Death Planning Old School UK Tour

Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury has posted the following message on the band's MySpace page:

"[I'm] In Finland enjoying what so far has been a killer tour and we still have so many shows and places to look forward to. [It's] fucking cold, though.

"Anyway, we have the idea for sometime now to hopefully put together a U.K. tour of smaller clubs and pubs, as we haven't really toured the U.K. as much as we would have loved in the past. Occasionally, we have been to places as in Newtown, Wales where we met so many fans and saw such response to a local gig that they aranged there for some local bands that we got to thinking. Well, maybe we could do an extensive tour in smaller towns in the U.K. and play cities and towns that no one goes to.

"In a nutshell, we would love to hear from serious local promoters around the United Kingdom who would be up for such an idea. I know there's an abundance of killer up-and-coming grind/hardcore/death metal bands who will hopefully be into playing their local towns with us also. I have heard from a couple of promoters over the past couple of months and we haven't forgotten about you guys!

"Please only serious enquiries but we would love to see this happen one day soon with killer local opening bands who can maybe help spread the word old-school style so we can all have some killer killer/fun shows."

Despised Icon Begin Recording New Album

DESPISED ICON have posted the following update:

"We've been in the studio for about 2 weeks now. The drums were recorded with a click track/metronome and the result is tight as fuck. Seriously, some of the parts on this record are faster then anything we've done in the past. Alex's drumkit sounds amazing. Expect more blastbeats and gravity blasts! We've drilled holes in our heads and came up with loads of inventive breakdowns for you mosh enthousiasts. I know this is the type of stuff that all bands say but trust me, it's true and you won't be disappointed.

Guitars are about halfway done and we can't wait to see how killer things will sound once Andy Sneap starts mixing the whole thing. He made some of the best sounding recordings out there so we're defenitely stoked to be working with him. Don Clark from Invisible Creature is currently working on our album layout. He handled the art direction on NORMA JEAN's last 2 albums so you know it's going to look sick. We've worked twice as hard on this record and are very pleased with how it's coming along.

Thanks to all of those who have tried out/shown interest for the guitarist spot. We've just picked the top 3 candidates and will invite them over to Montreal to jam and hang out with us as soon as we come back from the studio. Future plans include the shooting of our new video with DBM Films in February and a Canadian and Europeen tour in March/April. We're stoked to finally tour Europe and can't wait to play in our country again!"

HellYeah Set Album Release Date

HELLYEAH, the new band featuring former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott alongside members of MUDVAYNE and NOTHINGFACE, will release its self-titled debut album on April 10 via Epic Records.

The quintet includes three of hard rock's most revered and valuable players, with careers highlighted by an astonishing run of chart-topping gold and platinum albums, major industry awards, critical acclaim, Grammy nominations and music of monolithic power.

"Tom [Maxwell, NOTHINGFACE; guitar], Jerry [Montano, DANZIG, NOTHINGFACE; bass] and I have been talking about working together ever since we staggered through the streets of New Orleans five years ago," says MUDVAYNE/HELLYEAH vocalist Chad "Helvis" Gray. "I mentioned it to Greg [Tribbett, MUDVAYNE; guitar] and he immediately wanted in, and when Vinnie came on board the whole thing just took on a life of its own. This was a must-do project for all of us."

"The guys from HELLYEAH and the incredible music we've created have brought me back to what I love," states Vinnie. "'HellYeah' is the best record I've collaborated on since [PANTERA's] 'Vulgar Display of Power'. The vibe is positive with a kick-your-ass-attitude.' I can't wait to take this band on tour."

Gray and Tribbett will tour in support of the HELLYEAH debut in between recording the new MUDVAYNE album. The follow-up to 2004's blockbuster release, "Lost And Found", which debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Top 200, is due this fall and finds the Grammy-nominated quartet working once again with producer Dave Fortman (EVANESCENCE, SUPERJOINT RITUAL).

"It's cool to have both MUDVAYNE and HELLYEAH as creative outlets now, even though the approach, subject matter, and attitudes between the two projects are completely different," says Gray. "I'm looking forward to balancing both bands in my life — my new extremely busy life."

A nine-minute video of HELLYEAH writing and recording its self-titled album in Dallas, Texas has been posted online at YouTube.com. Two songs from the CD — "Hellyeah" and "Matter of Time" — are available for listening on the band's MySpace page.

Avenged Sevenfold Prepare DVD

AVENGED SEVENFOLD has issued the following update:

"I'm sure you've heard the rumor that an AVENGED SEVENFOLD DVD is in the works and will be released some time this year. Well, I'm here to set the record straight and let you know there IS DEFINITELY going to be an AVENGED SEVENFOLD DVD out THIS SPRING, but we can't say much more other than filming just wrapped here in Huntington Beach and we're super pumped for you to see it. So stay tuned as the weeks go on for all the details and release info."

AVENGED SEVENFOLD frontman M. Shadows recently told MTV.com that the band plans to take its time writing the follow-up to 2005's "City of Evil". While the boys have been working on new material for a couple of months now, Shadows doesn't see the band hitting the studio until at least May. And when AVENGED do, the singer said they'll track the disc without the benefit of a seasoned producer. "We're 90 percent sure we're going to produce it ourselves," said Shadows, who recently helped produce THE CONFESSION's new LP. "We want to do it ourselves because we know what we want." He said fans can expect the album's tracks to be bigger and longer, and added that he hopes to have the disc out by the fall.

On politics:

On super-producer Rick Rubin, who worked with SLAYER on several albums in the 1980s and 1990s:

On Dec. 8, the anniversary of the murder of PANTERA's Dimebag Darrell:
Kerry King: "From now on, that's going to be 'Drunk Day' for sure."

On the meaning of Christmas:
Kerry King: "Christmas isn't about religion. Christmas is about presents, if you ask me. I know originally it was supposed to be about the birth of Jesus, but anymore? It's about capitalism and hey, I'm all about getting presents."

Impending Doom Sign to Facedown Records

Facedown Records have issued the following press release regarding their latest signing of Impending Doom (myspace):

The ink is barely dry but we cannot wait to spread the word about Corona, California’s IMPENDING DOOM. These guys have been burning up the stages in Southern Californian venues since 2005 and we’re honored that they decided to sign with Facedown.

There’s a new marque of darkness coming out of the amplifiers of Impending Doom. Three guitarists contribute to the density of sound that fills your head like an inky black menace when first you hear this band. This is a band comprised of musicians who manipulate the genre of grind core like a butcher wields his cleaver. Bending vocal sounds to his whim, Brook Reeves takes the listener on a downward spiral into the depths of the band’s convictions where one may be surprised to find a shining light of unbelievable brilliance.

The juxtaposition of guttural bellowing and slaughterhouse wailing isn’t the only thing that catapults Impending Doom above the rest of the death metal bands. The fact that Impending Doom refuse to toe the line with their spiritual convictions in a genre long known for it’s demonic inclinations is paramount to the band’s impending notability…and your impending doom.

Experience IIMPENDING DOOM for yourself:
Feb. 22 – San Diego, CA @ Soma w/ Final Burden, Oblige
Feb. 23 – Bakersfield, CA @ The Dome w/ Final Burden, Oblige
Feb. 24 – Las Vegas, NV @ Leatherneck’s w/ Final Burden, Oblige
Feb. 25 - Phoenix, AZ @ Metal Devastation w/ Final Burden, Oblige
Mar. 24 – Pomona, CA @ The Glasshouse – FACEDOWN FEST 07

Scelerata Sign With MTM Music

MTM Music has announced the signing of Brazilian melodic metal band SCELERATA.

According to a press release, SCELERATA is "a young and talented band from Brasil, now stepping into the scene with a very technical and powerful melodic metal debut album. Formed in 2003, they had no great interest in doing cover songs but immediately began writing their own songs. Heavy and also a bit progressive in style they wrote powerful metal tracks and began to elaborate them to sophisticated songs with high energy and beats that keep pushing forward. Influenced by metal heroes like HELLOWEEN, IRON MAIDEN and DREAM THEATER, SCELERATA's songs represent the new era of modern and melodic but at the same time classic heavy metal music. Ambitious guitar work, fast and aggressive double bass parts and pretentious melodies supported by Carl Casagrande's brilliant voice. Also live SCELERATA already gained some respect while standing on same stages with giants like DEEP PURPLE and ANGRA. One of their biggest supporters, Edu Falaschi, singer of ANGRA, is featured on SCELERATA's debut, 'Darkness and Light', singing the song 'Spell Of Time'."

"Darkness and Light" was recorded in Brazil last year and was mastered by Dennis Ward at House of Audio Studios in Germany. More...

Glen Drover Talks to Megadeth Fans

Megadeth guitarist Glen Drover just made the following post in the Forum of www.megadeth.com.

"Since I have returned from the U.K. trip with Dave to finish United Abominations, I have been reflecting on what we have accomplished over the last year with this new recording..

"The whole experience has been a lot of fun for me, as well as learning so much from Dave in the process. All of us have worked so well together on this record, which is what good chemistry is all about!

"Speaking of working well together and chemistry, Andy Sneap [producer/mixer] has really been a blessing for us. He knew exactlly what to do with this album, was very easy to work with and has become a good friend as well. I look foward to working with him again!

"Aside from all of that stuff, there will be some cool news coming up in the world of Megadeth. Stay tuned..."

DevilDriver Wrap Up Recording, Name New Album

DevilDriver recently wrapped up the recording sessions for their third album, which we can now reveal will be entitled The Last Kind Words, at Sonic Ranch studios outside El Paso, Texas.

Jason Suecof, known for his great work with Trivium, Chimaira, God Forbid, and Bury Your Dead, is producing the album, with engineer Mark Lewis helping out as well.

Known for their uniquely sinister sound and dark subject matter, the band is keeping true to form with working song titles including "Damning the Heavens," "Cattle Call," "The Last Kind Words" and "Monsters of the Deep."

Says frontman Dez Fafara, "In a time when most bands are trying to be Metallica, Pantera, or Iron Maiden, we have made sure our sound is exclusively DevilDriver. The songs are faster and more riffy than on The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand, and there are also more solos. But with all the same groove that makes DevilDriver different." Obviously satisfied with the progress thus far he adds, "Working with Jason and Mark has been great. They know how to capture the vibe of this band."
