Akercocke Part Ways with Bassist
Bassist Peter Theobalds has announced his departure from U.K. death metallers AKERCOCKE.
Commented Peter: "It's been possibly the most difficult decision in my life to make but after 10 years of the beast that AKERCOCKE has become, I have decided to pack up my four strings and hit the highway in search of new adventures. My reasons are many and varied but the principal factor has been that the original vibe that drove me to play has gone. The fun, the utter immersion of the music and friendship and the camaraderie has been slowly eroding for me, personally, over the last year or so.
"The AK has given me so many unforgettable moments and brought me into contact with some amazing human beings and situations and I shall sincerely miss all of those aspects. But my heart tells me its time to seek other ideals and situations…I will NOT be giving up music, however, and will continue to bash out some form of pseudo-metallic noise, until chronic rheumatoid arthritis turns my hands into claws or Alzheimer's finally puts paid to what little common sense I currently possess.
"Massive, massive respect to all those people that have been so unbelievably supportive and encouraging: my family, the fans, the crews, the bands and other random maniacs that have been there for me all the way. I'd love to do a 'thank you' list but it would just be so long and I'd inevitably forget someone and get branded a total cunt (again), so I'll just say that I raise a glass to all of your honour!" Tholus signs with Goregorerecords
Berkeley, California-based progressive death metallers Tholus have inked a deal with Code666's death metal imprint Goregorecords. The group's debut album, "Constant", is scheduled for a spring release.
Commented drummer/vocalist Dave Murray: "By the time this is released, the drum parts will be two years old. And the vocals a year old!... Wow. Unfortunately, the mix has taken forever because we chose to mix at a low volume preserving the dynamics and fusion elements of the record. I was ignorant to the fact that once we mastered the record that the set balances change in a non-limited mix, and thus we/I have had to really dissect the mix and compensate for the mastering. But I feel the end result will be satisfactory."
Tholus is:
Dave Murray - Drums, Vocals, Throat
Wally Scharold - Rhythm Guitar
Rob Pumpelly - Rhythm Guitar
Aaron "Disemboweler" Ortiz - Vocals
Sami Di – Bass

Drummer Jens Malushka Quits Disillusion
Drummer Jens Maluschka has left Leipzig, Germany-based prog-death band DISILLUSION.
Commented Jens: "After six years of intensive work with DISILLUSION, it is time for a break. There are various reasons. I want to concentrate more on my private life, meaning I will become a father in June of this year. At that time I wish to focus on my family. So, the decision has been made to leave the band. Of course, my musical endeavours will continue — but I can't decide yet exactly in which from.
"I wish Andy and Rajk all the best for their future and lots of success with DISILLUSION."

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum Film Video
Oakland, CA based avant-garde rockers SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM have posted the following updates:
"SGM has just finished making an incredibly beautiful and bizarre film to accompany "The Helpless Corpses Enactment" -- a song from the forthcoming record, with lyrics entirely from Finnegans Wake (James Joyce). With the help of countless people who gave their time and talents and resources, and with director Adam Feinstein and cinematographer Jeremiah Crowell at the helm (along with a volunteer crew of upwards of 30 people), we made what should have been a $100,000 film (yes....35mm film!) for a laughably small amount of money...in the mid-4-digits. We emptied pockets and dug deep into the endless wells of the debt machine to make this happen. we are, in fact, about $7,000 in the hole at the end of this unwieldy and exhilerating project. More...

Akerfeldt Smashes "New Breed of Idiot 'Fans' "
OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has slammed the "new breed of idiot OPETH 'fans'" for questioning the abilities of the group's current drummer, Martin Axenrot (BLOODBATH, WITCHERY, NIFELHEIM), when compared to that of Axenrot's predecessor, Martin Lopez.
Lopez officially left OPETH in May 2006 after being plagued by illness and anxiety attacks, which forced him to miss several of the band's tours. Åkerfeldt stated at the time, "However sad I and the rest of the band feel in light of Lopez's departure, I want to thank him for his incredible work with OPETH and immense dedication to the band. We recorded some classic stuff together and he obviously had an enormous impact on our sound. I now feel very excited to hear the material of his own band. In the meantime, OPETH fans can rest assured that we'll continue jamming it out with Axe and we all have high expectations about our coming musical ventures."
Responding to a brand-new discussion on the band's forum regarding Axenrot's more "straightforward" playing technique compared to the "jazzy" style of his predecessor, Åkerfeldt wrote in a January 4, 2007 online posting, "Wow, looks like we got ourselves a new breed of idiot OPETH 'fans' on our tail, huh? Mindblowing guys...really!" He then added, "It makes me happy that you're all fans of Lopez cause he deserves the credit and don't forget I brought him in the band as well. Peter [Lindgren, guitar] didn't even want him to begin with and I said, 'Let's give this guy a chance' as I'd heard he had something. I fucking know the guy and have basically lived together with him for almost 10 years so don't come lamenting his leaving to me! What the fuck do you think I felt?

Impaled Nazarene Update on New Album
Finnish extreme metallers IMPALED NAZARENE have issued the following update:
"'Latex Cult' (1996) and 'Rapture' (1998) albums have (finally) been remastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox studio. Needless to say, sound quality improved 666% to say the least. Ritual, our house artist, has already worked on cover for 'Rapture' and soon we will do 'Latex Cult' cover with him as well. All covers and layouts etc. will be brand new. We also added some bonus shit on both albums:
"'Latex Cult' has four live tracks ('Total War - Winter War', 'Soul Rape', 'Punishment Is Absolute' and 'Mortification/Blood Red Razor Blade'), recorded at La Laiterie club in Strasbourg in 1996.
"'Rapture' has LP version bonus tracks (cover of SODOM's 'Burst Command 'Til War' and 'Nuclear Metal Retaliation') plus eight live tracks ('Transvestite' [TERVEET KÄDET cover], 'Motorpenis', 'Bashing In Heads', 'I Eat Pussy For Breakfast', 'Whore', 'Violence I Crave', 'Goat Perversion' and 'Hoath: Darbs Lucifero') taken from Strasbourg show as well.
"Two of our albums, 'Nihil' and 'Latex Cult', have been taken under inspection by German government. They have a group called BPjM which, apparently, controls media and entertaiment industries. We got last October bunch of papers in German which stated that both our albums are under their review for being 'harmful to minors' or similar bunch of shit. We did send back our side of story and we were supposed to get verdict in two weeks after that. Instead, they keep sending same papers to us. Go fucking figure.

Agathodaimon Vocalist Leaves
After the tour through Spain and Portugal in late November (some pics from the tour can be seen at the website of Agathodaimon here), vocalist/guitarist Frank "Akaias" Nordmann revealed that he will leave the band due to personal reasons.
"This decision was not easy for him, but Frank has priorities other than music at the moment. Music means much to all of us, but it's not everything that counts in life, sometimes other things are more important, and we understand his decision fully. We collectively wish him all the best for his future plans and thank him for the great time we spent together in the rehearsal room, on stage and of course off stage as well", said guitarist Sathonys.
