In This Moment Shoots Video For "Prayers"

In This Moment (Century Media Records) recently shot a new video for the track "Prayers" with up-and-coming director Mike Wildt. Chris Howorth (guitars) further comments on the band's first video shoot: "We had a blast filming our first video, and the location was amazing. The director and crew were really nice and professional. We gave 100% effort, which resulted in some minor battle wounds. Maria Brink (vocals) got smacked in the head with a camera, resulting in a nasty gash on the bridge of her nose, but after applying ice and some crazy glue she was up and headbanging in less than an hour. Everyone in the band probably had whiplash after the shoot was over, but it was totally worth it. We got some great shots and we can’t wait for you all to see the finished product."

Benediction Gives Update On Band Members, Album

Long-running U.K. extreme metallers BENEDICTION have issued the following update:

"A lot of you are asking what is going on with BENEDICTION. Well, here goes:

"On the new album front, we are fine tuning the guitar fill and lyrics and trying to decide on the final track listing. We have way too many tracks for one album, so once we narrow them down, we will go straight into the studio and record the fucking thing. We are also waiting for the record producer to book us in. We have waited this long so we do not mind waiting a little longer until his current projects are fulfilled.

"In the meantime, some of BENEDICTION have been doing other music-related stuff:

* Nicholas Barker is helping out TESTAMENT on their live dates and more than likely the new TESTAMENT album as well.

* Dave Hunt is doing vocals with MISTRESS and ANAAL NATHRAKH and will record albums and do some live shows with both bands as well. ANAAL NATHRAKH will definately be assaulting your senses in a dangerous live environment this year.

* Frank Healy is playing bass in the reformed CEREBRAL FIX and will also play on their new album. He played on one of the John Peel sessions for ANAAL NATHRAKH which appears on the 'When Fire Rains Down from the Sky' reissue. On top of that, he is putting a band together called THE BURNING DEITIES. He has written all the music for this band and will showcase the songs live after BENEDICTION's album is completed.

* Daz is busy with Rewy on the fine tuning of the album for BENEDICTION. It's all about guitar riffs after all!!!"

BENEDICTION's new album, "Killing Music", will be released via Nuclear Blast Records, with whom the band recently re-signed. The CD will mark the recording debut with the group of Barker, who was most recently a member of BRUJERIA and who played with ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares in the short-lived DRIVEN BY SUFFERING (working name).

Manowar Revealing Bits About Gods Of War

MANOWAR has started to give away parts of the CD cover for the upcoming new album GODS OF WAR, which is set to be released on February 23, 2007 in Germany ( February 26 for the rest of Europe and April 3 for the USA/Canada ).

Next to this first taste of what the album cover will look like, the band also gives away a bit more info about the CD - concept, including 2 more song-titles. GODS OF WAR is MANOWAR’s first entry in a cycle of concept albums; each a tribute to a different war god. Opening with the epic piece “Overture To The Hymn Of The Immortal Warriors”, the tone is set for an album beyond anything MANOWAR has done before. This album honors Odin - almighty father of the Norse gods - and details the history and exploits of this storied character. His power and wisdom were unmatched among the gods and he is paid tribute with human sacrifice on the battlefield, as heard in the song “The Sons Of Odin”, the stomping title track “Gods Of War” and the storytelling “The Blood Of Odin”.

Besides the normal Jewel Case version, GODS OF WAR will also be released as a limited edition in an embossed metal slipcase containing a high grade mediabook bound in leather. Furthermore, this limited edition will feature a bonus DVD with unreleased material about the making of this album and some special behind-the-scenes footage.

A double-vinyl LP in a gatefold sleeve will also be available.

MANOWAR will continue with revealing the cover in their upcoming E-Card.

Killswitch Engage Recruit Ex-Soilwork Guitarist

Pete Wichers formerly of Soilwork, will fill in as KSE's second guitarist for the remainder of their Euro tour.

Guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz has been forced to miss a series of shows after sustaining a serious back injury. The band has since issued the following update:

"OK, here's the deal. Adam and Howard [Jones, vocals] were sick and wanted to do the Brixton show [in London]. Once they got to the club, both got to see the local physician. After both seeing the doc the prognosis was Howard had a chest infection. Adam, however, was doing much much worse. No way he could do the show, and he was immediately ushered to a nearby hospital. After a series of test, it was decided that Adam would need back surgery again ? no more shows, no flying home first, no exceptions.

"We are pleased to report that he has just left surgery, is doing fine and resting comfortably. Adam and the band appreciate all the messages and concern that everyone has shown.

"Concerning the rest of the tour, it will continue with Pete Wichers (ex-SOILWORK) filling in for Adam on guitar. Adam will be missed, but he wants the tour to go on more than the rest of the band so we will try to miss as few shows as possible, and make up as many as we can."

Interview

Interview with Pandemic's Andy Giardina

Pandemic is a Sonoma County, California based metal band that I stumbled upon while covering a show for HOSTILITY last year. Their style is a combination of the more traditional Iron Maiden heavy metal, mixed up with some of the thrash and melodic death metal. One of the things that I love the most about the work I do is getting to meet so many different types of metal musicians from all walks of life, and let me just say that this band Pandemic may not even register on a restaurant napkin right now with most of you, but this band, to me at least, is what heavy metal is all about: brotherhood, having a damn good time while you're alive and kicking, yet still being able to throw down some music that revitalizes the scene by any means necessary and not just going the copycat route. This is a band that really could care less what anyone outside of them thinks. Yeah, they want to try and make it somewhere, who the hell doesn't? But they will not sacrifice eachother or their music to make that happen. And that's the kind of metal band I want to be around. I am real happy to bring this Q&A to all of my readers here with Pandemic's colorful and out spoken lead vocalist, Andy Giardina. More...

Cataract Part Ways With Guitarist

Swiss metalcore band CATARACT has parted ways with guitarist Simon Fullemann. "We've had several discussions between different members about our future concerning music, shape, form and structure of CATARACT and, of course, the year lying ahead," the group writes in a statement. "And, after a final meeting this Friday, we agreed to disagree — our founding member Simon decided to part ways with CATARACT to pursue his own projects, which you will run across sooner or later.

"We had nine incredible years and all of us will remember the times we had. We are parting in peace as we all agreed that this is the best way for both sides.

"We have decided to take a break until we worked out all the band business and we'll use the time to evaluate Simon's successor. Unfortunately we had to cancel the show in Aarau but we will make up for it as soon as we're a five piece again. All other shows (we will add them soon) are still hot and will happen. Of course, we're looking for a new guitarist now. If you already think you have got 'it,' then contact us at info@cataract.cc." More...

Vital Remains Complete New Album

U.S. legends of epic black death metal VITAL REMAINS have just returned home from Mana Recording Studio in Florida where they completed work on the follow-up to 2003's "Dechristianize" with Glen Benton of DEICIDE onec again handling lead vocals.

Commented VITAL REMAINS rhythm guitarist Tony Lazaro: "We've just returned home from Mana Recording in Florida where we spent the whole month of December/January working on the new album. Yes, it's done and what can we say other than holy shit! We cannot wait for the fans to hear this new album!! I really think all of our fans are going to shit themselves when they hear this.

"To those few who thought we couldn't top 'Dechristianize', you're in for a real surprise because we did! We thought 'Dechristianize' was a tough album to do. Oh, man! This album, hands down, sets the bar. We spent 12-13 hours a day straight with no days off. The drums took some 10 days alone to track all nine songs. Glen's vocals sound sick and his performance and attack was awesome! Dave's [Suzuki] leads and harmonies are some of his best work to date. Total shredding as well as a great drum performance done by Dave. He really worked hard to get his best drum tracks down.

"The overall sound of the new album is just HUGE! We are very proud of the results of all this hard work and we think our fans will soon agree as well. A BIG THANKS to Erik Rutan who really worked us to near death, ha! Much respect to you and Shaun Otani for really working hard and pushing us to the point of insanity to bring out our best performances, to which we think you did without a doubt! This is without question our 'Reign in Blood' album. Soon the underground worldwide will get to hear this unholy brutality! Hammer down the nails!!"

VITAL REMAINS is currently booking shows in support of the upcoming album. Also in the works is a single and a video — the first clip in the band's 18-year history.

VITAL REMAINS last spring re-released its "Horrors of Hell" compilation which contains the band's early demo recordings.

Steve Smyth Receives Kidney Transplant

Following successful kidney transplant surgery in December, guitarist Steve Smyth (Nevermore, Dragonlord, ex-Testament, etc.) issues the following statement:

"The time has finally come to share a very important piece of news, directly related to my health. On December 12 th, 2006, I had a successful kidney transplant! After 6 straight months on dialysis, changes to my lifestyle and diet, and a very thorough search for a suitable donor, by early August 2006, we had a preliminary match. Several rounds of blood and tissue typing tests had to be subsequently performed to ensure we were a perfect match for transplant; the main reason for my hesitance in saying anything publicly during those months.

The donor shall remain nameless, but my gratitude to him for his selfless act of kindness and friendship will endure forever! Thank you so much, you have no idea how much this means to me! I am now on the road to recovery, as they say. This is mainly requiring a lot of adjustment to medications I will be on for the rest of my life, a small price to pay to be free from dialysis, and the restrictions it places on a person, both mentally and physically. I had no idea how much freedom I took for granted before all of this hit. 2006 was a big revelation of the frailty of human life for me, something I will not take for granted again.

Where does all this lead to next? I’ve been advised by my doctors that I will not be able to travel in any capacity for the next 6 months, as I have to adjust to immunosuppressant drugs to fight any possible form of rejection of the kidney, and my body needs time to recover from this operation, as well as dietary and lifestyle changes. All things that only make one stronger!

Obviously, my health must come first, but of huge importance to me is my loyalty to the rest of Nevermore, and as soon as I am deemed fit and ready to hit the road again, I will. I’ve already written 4-5 songs in various stages for the next Nevermore record, when the time comes to do one.

My immediate plans are to finish The EssenEss Project, my instrumental debut album collaboration with bass player/composer Steve Hoffman, and special guest drummer, Atma Anur, and find a suitable label to release the album, and get this album heard, finally! It’s been a long road, most recently delayed by my health issues. I am glad to finally be getting this on to the mix stage within the next month. For more updates on The EssenEss Project, please check in at www.theessenessproject.com and our related forum. We have lots of news upcoming, as we confirm the next phases of the record, including mixing duties, mastering duties, and artwork, and finally, what label will release it. Interested parties in this last area, please contact me at: steve@stevesmyth.com

I am also set to launch my internet guitar lesson business within the coming weeks. This will be a “live via webcam” lesson, all things that would happen in a regular live lesson with me will remain intact; written and audio/video examples, and direct focus on your goals as a musician are my aim. If you are interested in pursuing lessons with me, please contact me at: steve@stevesmyth.com with INTERNET GUITAR LESSONS in the title. I will include you on a mailing list due to go out this week, with full details on the lessons, how they will be run, cost, scheduling, etc. I look forward to teaching you!

Please stay tuned to www.stevesmyth.com or www.myspace.com/stevesmyth for further updates, or my forum on Ultimate Metal, as all further updates will come from any of these locations. I told everyone I would fight this, and be back! Bring on 2007, I’m ready!"

Paria Drummer Quits, Re-Forms The Binding

Drummer Eric Schnee recently quit Omaha, NE metal band Paria to move back to his hometown in New Jersey and reform his old band, The Binding.

The band began practicing over Christmas break and is are already in the process of booking some weekend tours in the New England area plus a full U.S. tour this summer. Here's what drummer Eric Schnee had to say about the move:

"After a year or so of being away from the band, we have decided that it is time to resurrect this beast again and continue with what we started. We will be touring this coming summer, promoting our now critically acclaimed Self-Titled EP (Imagine It) starting in late June and going until July. I can't even begin to express how excited we are. I can guarantee the shows are something not to be missed. If my memory serves me correctly the damage count from our last outings goes something like this: one smashed guitar in Conneticut, drums flying off the riser in Virginia, One permanently damaged shoulder from the last tour and then the most infamous show in NJ where our drummer puked all over himself and never stopped playing."

Here is the planned tour routing. If you can help the group with any of the following dates, send an email to ericschnee@mac.com.

6/30 Chicago, IL
