Great work takes time I mean just look at Tool. I'm sure this album will be off the wall. "Miss Machine" was a wild album and who knows where they will go next with their sound. This is looking to be a damn good year for new music.

I've always despised this bands music (But I've never liked hardcore so no suprise there). There is music that is technical and there is technical music aka, randomness. I prefer the former.

you cant say that in post 4 b/c calculating and their self titled album sound nothing like mr. bungle....botch maybe, but not mr. bungle. these guys are standard bearers and have influenced countless bands since dropping calculating infinity on the masses. however, this is one of those polarizing bands that you either love or hate, so i understand that hate will be spewed on this post......for the record, i love dillenger.

First off Mr. Bugle is awesome and anyone who has the Mike Patton influnce is ok in my book. Second, Mr. Bunlge is not really even metal so its hard to say Dillenger is just like Mr. Bungle. Third, its hard not to love this band with their insane talent and their psycho math metal.

The "person" who coined the term "math metal" needs to be shot in the face. There were a boatload of bands that wrote music in odd time signatures, and not just in metal. King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, Rush, Dream Theater, Tool, and others paved the way for these downtuned screamo hacks. For them to be called "originators"(yes I've been told that) is a slap in the face of every band I've named.
Now Playing:"Chasing Fear" from Testament

I think Meshuggah(Nothing, I and Catch 33) and Converge (Jane Doe-No Heroes) do it more tastefully but Dillinger "randomness" is still precise (on time) and for the songs that come off like sh** there are just as many that blow my mind. And while more accomplished by far, KC,Yes and Genesis were not toying with the extremities DEP manage, though DT comes close here and there.

They're singer is their biggest weakness(though satisfactory), they should be a vocalist free outfit, it slows them down.

Math metal? No, Mathcore. (And yes I hate these terms to, I'm pretty sure the guy from Mudvayne coined the term). Wikipedia has a good article on it.

When I first heard of this band I was really excited. I'm a tech nut, Watchtower, Cynic, Spiral Architect, Behold... The Arctopus, Necrophagist etc but I was pretty disapointed with what I heard. The only interesting part was the jazz breaks, and If I wanted that I would go listen to Allan Holdsworth.

Why do these always turn into arguments? I think metalmayhem and RememberMetal? are right. You either like a band or you don't, nothing wrong with either. Still, you should respect The Dillinger Escape Plan for pushing their limits, which they do with each album. As metalmayhem said, they have influenced countless bands and artists. If you don't like them, don't listen to them. I, for one, can't wait for the new album.

I'm giddy too...
I love the fact that it took 3 solid weeks of playing (and hating) "Calculating Infinity" before I started to like them....

At some point it just clicked.

Haha, I guess it was different for me. I loved Calculating right after "Sugar Coated Sour" kicked in, same with Miss Machine. I don't know, I always thought they were an awesome band from the first time I heard them.

Miss Machine was instant gratification for me, but I can see where if someone started off with "Panasonic Youth", or conversely "Unretrofied" and was really turned off by it. Not the easiest thing to get into for some and an instant turnoff for others.

Not me.

I'll have the new one day of release.

Totally understandable. Miss Machine had a lot of twists and changes that weren't apparent on Calculating Infinity. But hey, if they weren't pushing their boundaries and trying new things, they just wouldn't be Dillinger.

I'm trying to figure out how many walls they have left to break through at this point...

I want the spastic-tantrum Dillinger with quiet and jazzy interludes but full on melody on a track or 2 is fine...
They should surprise everyone and do something that just crawls or drones like Type O or Sunn 0))) that would freak out everyone.

Hahaha yeah totally. Whatever they do, I'm sure it'll rule. From what I've read, it's supposed to be a combination of the highlights of Calculating and Machine, the heavy parts are heavier, the crazy parts are crazier, and the melodic parts are better. We'll see.

Mr Bungle and DEP are both excellent bands, but they really aren't comparable to each other. They're both crazy, I'll give you that.
