VINTERSORG, the Swedish band led by BORKNAGAR frontman Andreas Hedlund (a.k.a. Vintersorg), will release its new album, "Solens Rotter" (English translation: "The Origin of the Sun") on April 27 in Europe and May 22 in the U.S. via Napalm Records. The CD was mixed at Ballerina Audio with the engineer Nils Johansson. Songtitles set to appear on the CD songtitles for the album: "Kosmosaik", "Naturens Myst?r", "Vad Aftonvindens Andning Viskar", "Spirar och Gror", [and] 'Str?lar'.
VINTERSORG previously stated about the new CD, "It has taken some time to complete this album, but it hasn't been about not having ideas; instead it has taken us some time to understand what kind of album we wanted to do and how to reach that vision. A more ethnic approach is obvious but still with a fresh vibe as we see it ourselves, hymn-like passages mixed with soothing parts, acoustic guitars are present as well as harsh black metal elements; all filtered through our Nordic minds. But don't expect 'The Focusing Blur' part II; new ideas are very present but the songs feels very fluent and bear the atmosphere of nature in all its forms."
VINTERSORG recently extended its worldwide recording contract with Napalm Records "to include multiple releases," according to a posting on the Napalm web site.
The follow-up to 2004's "The Focusing Blur", "Solens Rotter" will not feature contributions from Steve DiGiorgio (SADUS, DRAGONLORD, TESTAMENT, DEATH) and drummer Asgeir Mickelson (SPIRAL ARCHITECT, BORKNAGAR, SATYRICON), both of whom performed on the band's last two releases.
Vintersorg's collaboration with BORKNAGAR's Oystein G. Brun (guitars and programming), dubbed CRONIAN, released its debut album, "Terra", in the U.S. in April 2006 via Century Media Records. The CD, which was issued in Europe on March 27, was mastered by Dan Swano at Unisound.
Boston's punk metal grandfathers POST MORTEM have announced plans to reform in some form in the near future. Vocalist John McCarthy is the only member remaining from the 1980s-'90s period. They will also be starting their own record company, Taboo Records, an off-shoot of their tape label, which has existed since the early '80s.
POST MORTEM was formed on March 22, 1982 in the outskirts of Boston, Massachusetts. The definitive lineup was finally settled on in early 1985. This consisted of: John McCarthy (vocals), John Alexander (guitar), Mark Kelley (bass) and Rick McIver (drums). Their first album, "Coroner's Office", was released in 1986 on New Renaissance Records, followed in 1987 by the EP "The Missing Link" (featuring female guitarist MELDRUM) on the same label. In 1989 "Festival of Fun" was recorded, but was deemed "too inaccessible" by the label it was recorded for. So POST MORTEM 'stole' the tape and released it as a "bootleg" two years later. The final release by POST MORTEM was "Destined for Failure".
You can get more information on them and hear some of their material on their MySpace page.
Sanctuary Records has set a March 26 U.K. release date for reissues of two classic SABBAT albums: "History of a Time to Come" (1988) and "Dreamweaver" (1989). The remastered CDs contain audio recordings from the band's 1990 concert in East Berlin, which was previously released as the official "The End of the Beginning" video.
A short video clip of SABBAT being interviewed and rehearsing for their recent U.K. tour as the support act for CRADLE OF FILTH has been posted online at YouTube.com .
The SABBAT reunion came about "due to many a conversation with Dani [Filth, CRADLE of FILTH frontman] and Paul [Allender, COF guitarist] whilst mixing the [new] CRADLE album," SABBAT guitarist-turned-producer Andy "Undie" Sneap told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "It was put to us that they'd love to see it happen (Dani still has his stolen copy of 'Dreamweaver' on cassette), and the more we've talked about it, it just seemed like opening for CRADLE on these shows would be a great way of getting the five of us together again for a bit of fun. It's not a long-term thing, [and we don't have] any delusions about the future - [it's] just a chance to play some of the old songs and have a blast."
SABBAT reunion lineup (same as that on "Dreamweaver"):
Martin Walkyier - Vocals
Andy Sneap - Guitar
Simon Jones - Guitar
Fraser Craske - Bass
Simon Negus - Drums

MNEMIC's third album, "Passenger," is available for streaming in its entirety prior to the album's North American street date of February 6th on MP3.com.
In the band's current feature in Metal Edge Magazine, MNEMIC guitarist Mircea discusses the new album and his hopes for what it will accomplish:
"This is more of a resurrection album for the band. The melodic became more melodic, and the brutal became more brutal as we succeeded in finding the complete MNEMIC sound. We really took the time that we needed to write songs we could be happy with. We didn't just use the first or the best riff... we demo-ed [the songs], chopped them up, and put them back together. [New singer] Guillaume really did a phenomenal job with vocals. He was the missing piece of the puzzle and simply lifted us to the next level. I hope this release finally puts MNEMIC on the map. I don't want us to just drown in the ocean of all other releases, bands, and labels that are out there in today's metal."
MNEMIC are currently on the "Revolver Presents: The Chains Of Humanity Tour" with God Forbid, Goatwhore, Arsis, and The Human Abstract/Byzantine through February 21st, where the tour will end in Montreal, Québec. States Mircea:
"We toured the U.S. with God Forbid last year with Meshuggah and instantly became friends after some heavy partyin'. YOUR destination will be HELL if you don't show up!"
Produced by Fear Factory's Christian Olde Wolbers at Track Record Studios (Kiss, Megadeth, Aerosmith) in Los Angeles, Passenger features artwork by Asterik Studios (Anthrax, Unearth) and includes guest vocal appearances by Jeff Walker (Carcass, Brujeria) and Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Brujeria). MNEMIC's video for "Meaningless," directed by Revolver Film's Patric Ullaeus, will soon be airing on MTV2's Headbangers Ball.
Passenger will be available for streaming between February 2nd - 6th, 2007.
