Secret Sphere Complete New Album Pre-Production
Italian melodic metallers Secret Sphere have completed pre-production for their new album, tentatively due in early 2005 through Nuclear Blast Records.
With regards to the musical direction of the new material, Secret Sphere guitarist Aldo Lonobile writes on the group's web site, "We have changed a little bit once again, as in our style. But don't worry! I'm sure that the people who love the loud parts of 'Scent of Human Desire' [2003] will be satisfied and all the people that was asking for more speed songs will be satisfied too! This album contains probably the fastest songs ever written by Secret Sphere! Ramon [Messina] wrote some great vocal lines, I'm sure that most of the new chorus of this work will be stuck in your head after just one listen! Antonio's [Agate] piano and orchestrations are very emotional, he tried also some new tips and sounds, the result is really interesting. The rhythm parts? Definitively metal! Dave's [Simeone] drum parts also fit very well with Andy's playing! Well…how about the guitars?! : )) Paco [Gianotti] and I have given to you the heaviest Secret Sphere riffs yet!"
In other news, Secret Sphere's debut album, "Mistress of the Shadowlight" (1999), will be re-released in Japan through Avalon/Marquee Inc. Records. The new version of the CD will include several bonus tracks and the group's entire "Between Story & Legend" demo.

Hardcore Slipknot fans in South Korea previously had to travel to Japan to see the group perform in concert, and this first gig in Seoul, South Korea is expected to be a monster rock event. Frank Watkins On New Obituary Album
Obituary bassist Frank Watkins recently spoke to Decibel magazine about the songwriting process for the group's new studio album, tentatively due in 2005 through an as-yet-undetermined label (most likely Roadrunner). Watkins described the group's new material as "going towards more of our older style, more like the 'Slowly We Rot' or 'Cause of Death' era; we're not really going to experiment like we did on past albums. We're trying to make this album as brutal as we possible can, we're going to try to make it the heaviest album we've ever recorded."
With regards to how the legendary death metal band's reunion came about, Watkins said that Andrew W.K. (whose band features Obituary drummer Donald "D.T." Tardy) was playing Ozzfest in 2002, "He asked me and John [Tardy, Obituary vocalist] if we'd get up with them and do a song, so we did it, and then just from there it kind of sparked more interest in all of us to get back together, so we called everybody and it took about a year and a half, and we just said, 'We should start doing it again'."

Dream Theater Keyboardist Talks About Going Solo
In a brand-new interview with the Get Ready To Rock! web site, Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess was asked how easy it was to escape the Dream Theater "web" while composing the material for his latest solo album, "Rhythm of Time." "Well, I believe that I am a very established composer," Jordan replied. "Dream Theater is one of my passions and my main job right now, but as far as escaping from a musical point of view, no problem! I have a million of ideas that need to come out musically, and even one album that I just did is really not enough. It was cool to come out of the Dream Theater world for a while and do this one, because I have created some very interesting heavy sounds for the new album. 'Train of Thought' is a really heavy and metal album for which I have created all these cool distorted keyboard sounds, and I thought that if I could take the experience of this heavy album, and all the sounds that I made for it and bring it in to my world, I could then extract what I want to use from that sound and I could also put my classical, fusion and jazz influences together and create my own music.
"I’ve got more information even now than ever before about the Dream Theater sound. I've contributed more to Dream Theater, and I've learned more from them. So, as far as using Dream Theater as a basis for moving away from them, this is even more powerful. I feel really good about doing that, and I realize that the core audience for this album will primarily be Dream Theater fans who would like to check out what Jordan Rudess does by himself, but I mean, think about it… Some of the Dream Theater fans don't have a clue as to how much music I actually contribute to the band, but when they hear this, maybe if they're smart, they will start to get a grasp of that, but even if they're not, they will probably just like the music. They will definitely detect the Dream Theater influences, but they will also go for a ride on other musical journeys that don't exist in the Dream Theater domain."
