Solid Ground To Disband Later This Year
Hardcore band Solid Ground has decided to call it a day, but has plans to continue to tour through this fall and possibly put their last four songs to a recording. Here is a message from Martin SG:
"Some may already have heard the news:
"Solid ground decided to call it a day. Nothing really bad happend. It is just that over the last 1 or 2 years, it was getting harder and harder to keep the band going on a level that we wanted to. Due to job responsibilities, among other duties, we couldn't dedicate as much time to the band as we wanted to.
"However we feel that there is also no reason whatsoever to stop the band right here and now. We are still going to play the bunch of shows this summer that are already booked, plus we want to finish this band in an appropriate way. So we are going to do one last European tour in October. Which by the way is being booked by our friends at Avocado Bookings as i write this.
"We always felt that playing shows is one of the most important and fun things with Solid Ground. So everyone out there that wants to see us one last time, make sure to come out to those last few shows and have fun! Check our website for dates and venues. We definitely will give a 120 % for each and every show - just as we always did.
"After our European tour we will play one official last show here in Switzerland, which will be announced later on.
"The madness is not over yet! If all goes well, we are even going to record the last four songs that we just wrote. We are very proud of these tunes and, like every band, we think our latest stuff is our best! :-) So we feel it would be a shame if those songs would never see the light of day.
"And in case you don't know or i forgot to mention ... the guys in CHEAP THRILLS rule big time!!! check out these boys if you haven't yet."
Psycropic Reveal New Album Title
Tasmanian tech-death masters, PSYCROPTIC, have officially announced the title of their follow-up to 2006’s “Symbols of Failure.” “Ob(Servant),” the band’s first album for Nuclear Blast Records and fourth overall, will be released sometime in the fall of 2008. “Ob(Servant)” was mixed and mastered by former MACHINE HEAD and SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader (DIVINE HERESY, GOJIRA) and recorded once again by guitarist Joe Haley. Drummer Dave Haley commented on their upcoming release:
“'Ob(Servant)' is definitely our finest hour (well, finest 49 minutes and 49 seconds anyway). It’s of course a cliché of every band to say that their newest album is their best and so on, but we are very proud of what we have done on this album. The writing process was a little different for this album, with Joe (guitarist) writing pretty much all the material. This gives the album a very coheisive and flowing feel, and this album is definatley our most diverse material thus far. The artwork is also amazing, having been completed by Raymand Swanland (DEEDS OF FLESH). Those not familiar with his work should check it out – you will be amazed! More...

Interview
An Interview With American Speedway
American Speedway is a high-energy, heavy rock and roll band out of Philadelphia, conceived in February 2007. The band has since earned their mark as live, powerhouse rock and roll band that reminds listeners why they fell in love with music in the first place. The energy brought by the band during their live show cannot be compared to the sounds on their album - they must be seen live in concert. The band "brings it" loud, heavy and fast, something that seems to be missing in today's modern rock music.
American Speedway has enjoyed much success already in less than a year together. For one, the band has quickly established a growing, loyal fan base by traveling feverishly and performing in various cities on the east coast (Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Winston-Salem, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cleveland, etc.) and constantly winning over not only new fans, but also club owners.
In late-summer 2007, the band caught the eye of Prophase Music, an independent record label based on the outskirts of Philadelphia, who offered them a pressing and distribution arrangement to release the band's debut album, "Ship of Fools." Prophase is exclusively distributed by MVD Entertainment Group (MVD), and will be releasing their debut record, "Ship of Fools," on vinyl (limited edition). In October 2007, American Speedway was picked up by the music marketing powerhouse, The Syndicate, who will be pushing the band's debut release to radio and press, while using its street teams for added band awareness.
The main philosophy of the band is real simple and that's to play what they like, and that's "real" rock and roll. American Speedway is not here to reinvent the wheel. They are not here to earn scene points, win musician competitions, nor be the next biggest thing. The band is here to write and record songs they like, and have a great time playing live on stage.
I had the chance to talk to Michael Thursby Speedway, lead vocalist of American Speedway. More...

Sourvein Signs with Candlelight Records

The popular five-piece on tour now through August 11 has recorded a special/limited edition EP titled "Imperial Bastard," which will see a domestic release on September 30. It will be followed by the band's Billy Anderson-produced full-length label debut currently planned for release in early 2009.
Formed in 1993, Sourvein relocated to Cape Fear, North Carolina after Hurricane Katrina ravaged their long-time home base. Blacktide Music says, "ominous riffs, which launch into despair-ridden breakdowns the likes of which would make Eyehategod tremble with fear." Currently featuring vocalist T-Roy Medlin, former Buzzov-en drummer Ramzi, bassist Bonne Doom with guitarists Cool Clyde and Sleepy Doom, the band has released two full length albums - their self-titled (often referred to as "Salvation") debut released in 2000/Game Two Records and "Will to Mangle" released in 2002/Southern Lord. At The Gates Posts US Tour Diary #2
At The Gates has posted the second part of their tour diary, chronicling their reunion tour across the U.S. with Municipal Waste and Toxic Holocaust.
"Almost a week into the tour now...
"Today, we hit Chicago around noon. It's great to be back. The hometown of awesome bands like Master/Deathstrike, Devastation, Terminal Death, Macabre, Sindrome etc; and today hosting greats such as the amazing Nachtmystium! We invited the Devastation dudes to the show tonite, so perhaps a cover version of Cranial Hemorrhage? Hehe ;D
"It's an early show today; then off to the afterparty at Kumas where the official At the gates-burger is introduced tonight. Adrian is sooo happy...
"The last two Canadadian shows were great. Last night in Toronto was sold out and they really packed the place full. During the Municipal Waste show the crowd produced the best "wall of death" i..ve seen in a good while!
"We also added an extra song to the set: Unto others, after Dave Witte (From the Waste) had been at us for a while about that song...and the response was killer. Toxic Holocaust played on an afterparty at Catacombs in Montreal; a great punk bar run by the awesome Janick from After The Bombs. Toxic played a great set and the whole touring family had a good evening. I..m pretty sure I even saw Anders in the pit!
"There are some pictures from the Montreal show online. Check them out here.
"The Worcester show was fun too, with friends from Hope Conspiracy, Killswitch Engage etc hanging out and making the night special. It's a hard venue to play since it's an old theatre made totally out of concrete. The sound is very bouncy and all you hear is the echo from the back of the hall hitting you onstage with some milliseconds delay. Anyway, this was probably the best sounding Worcester gig (on stage) ever, and people were insane. Good times indeed."
More photos from the road are also available on the original blog post.
Alice In Chains Readying First Album In 13 Years
Alice In Chains, having not released a full length studio album of original material since 1995's self titled album, are working hard in the studio to have the record done by the end of 2008. Although the band did record a few songs that were released on their box set Music Bank in 1999, "Alice In Chains" was the final album with original vocalist Layne Staley, who died of a drug overdose in 2002. The band has since reunited with new vocalist, William DuVall who toured with Alice In Chains on their reunion tour.
Ultimate-Guitar.com recently caught up with Jerry Cantrell to get his thoughts on choosing DuVall to fill the immensely huge shoes of Layne Staley and where they are at with completing the new album. You can check out the video here.
Jerry Cantrell's comment on the upcoming album:
"We just kind of met and got along you know and ended up playing together on my solo tour and when we started thinking about doing some playing I suggested him coming in and jamming with us and the guys had a good time with him. That was like three years ago and we're still hanging out and having a good time and making some music. We're in the middle. Yeah, we're in the middle."
Alice In Chains have sold more than 14 million albums in the United States, released two number-one albums and 19 top 40 singles, and have received six Grammy nominations. As of press time the band doesn't have any tour dates for 2008 as they continue to work hard putting the finishing touches on the new material.
