Heaven and Hell Has "Six Or Seven" New Songs
Billboard.com reports that Heaven and Hell, the Dio-fronted incarnation of Black Sabbath, has started work on a new album, the group's first since "Dehumanizer" in 1992.
Tony Iommi tells Billboard.com that he, Dio and bassist Geezer Butler have already convened in Los Angeles to begin writing material for the project. "We've got about six or seven new songs," Iommi reports, "and then we stopped to do this (The Metal Masters) tour. When we finish that, we'll take a couple of weeks off, then carry on writing."
The guitarist adds that he's "really pleased" with what the group has come up with so far, describing the material as "really good, pretty powerful." Heaven & Hell, which also includes drummer Vinnie Appice, has signed a deal with Rhino and hopes to have the album out "as soon as we can," according to Iommi, most likely in 2009.

Iron Maiden Movie Underway
Famed producer Kevin Shirley, notable for his work with Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, has posted the following message:
"Here I am, in a downtown Toronto hotel, suffering the ill effects of an hermetically sealed hotel room when both the air and the temperature outside are perfect for camping under the stars! Not that you're likely to find me camping anywhere when there's a hotel within fifty miles - we don't camp! I'm here to check out the line edits of the Iron Maiden movie (specifically the perfomance aspects) which is being edited and assembled here, so last night we got together to listen to the audio and see the edit thus far. They're a good bunch of lads and lasses, but I must confess to it being a little early in the process for me to be here, or they're running a bit behind, as it's not quite where it should be but I'll certainly help out where I can, and so it's off to the studio soon, to fix up sync and shot issues before anyone gets to see the rough cut."

Rush Announces Live DVD Release Date
According to Rushisaband.com, RUSH filmed their Tuesday, July 22nd at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Alpharetta, GA. The main purpose for the filming was to capture video of the new songs - 'Red Barchetta', 'The Trees', 'Ghost Of A Chance', '2112', and Neil's drum solo for bonus footage on the upcoming DVD, but the entire show was filmed for posterity. There were two very large swinging boom HD cameras on either end back by the end of the seated section just before the lawn. Those swung back and forth for the entire show. There were two manned stationary cameras on the side of either far section (one for Geddy Lee and one for Alex Lifeson). They had two cameras behind Neil with one attached to his kit, one camera on top of a pole over where the sound board was located and Alex had a stationary camera at his feet. There were also two on platforms near the spotlights on the roof in the back. These were all in addition to the standard in-house cameras in the photo pit. Apparently the footage was to head immediately back to FogoLabs for processing after the show so it could be ready for the DVD - which now has a working release date of November 4th if all goes according to schedule. Alex and Geddy will be taking the next several weeks off before putting their attention towards adding their finishing touches to the DVD and Neil is working on the packaging.

Judas Priest Delivers a Metal Sermon in Vancouver
Ever wanted to rock out with your cock out? Well fans got the chance at General Motors Place on July 24th as Judas Priest and Testament played the 3rd date of their North American tour. Apparently belts with metal studs, chains and fake bullets are considered potential weapons and were confiscated before the show leaving many fans irate and holding up their pants. A first for any metal show I’ve ever been to. The crowd was a mix of everyone from teens getting their first taste of the Priest to the older fans of the band. It appears as though the metalheads from the Heavy Metal parking lot days have grown up and gotten real jobs and haircuts as the mullets were few and far between. More...
