Voivod Launches Statue Campaign
Canadian progressive thrash metal legends Voivod has announced that they have launched a new Kickstarter campaign to honour their fallen bandmate Denis "Piggy" D’Amour, who passed away from colon cancer in 2005, by erecting a statue of him in their hometown of Jonquière, Quebec.
In order to pay the ultimate tribute to one of the most original metal guitarists in history, three friends: one artist in visual arts, a musician and a metal journalist are united in order to create this amazing project: a statue to commemorate the talent of Denis "Piggy" D’Amour.
Fred Laforge, a well-known visual artist in the province of Quebec proposes a sculpture, a sci-fi statue of Denis d’Amour, aka Piggy. Using the technique of the strata/stratum (or layers), it is the same technique used by the artist in order to create the Joe Malone (of the Quebec’s Bulldogs hockey team) sculpture, that is erected at Place Jean-Béliveau in Quebec City.
The artist really like to disfigure and distort his subjects. He is totally into the optical side of arts and it’s with this vision on things that he created the model for the sculpture. Away and Snake, original members of Voïvod, visited the artist in his workshop in order to understand the vision of Laforge.
"I find it quite sci-fi. At first glance, I found it amazing for sure! It’s quite amazing at a technical level to see how well it's modeled." - Michel "Away" Langevin.
"His posture represents a kind of inner well-being which emanates from his music and that's exactly what I see." - Denis "Snake" Bélanger. More...

Borders Signs With Arising Empire
Arising Empire is excited to announce signing UK genre-defying quartet Borders and have released their debut single on the label, "Fade To Black." You can watch the video below.
On the single, the band comment: "'Fade To Black' is about how social media, or all of the media we soak in on the daily is mind-numbing as a whole, and how we need to disengage in order to take back our minds before we become slaves to the system."
Borders combine ferocious, hard-hitting metalcore with elements of hip-hop, grime, hardcore and alternative metal, completed with a dash of introspection and brazen, no-holds-barred atmosphere. The quartet are a young but driven collective hellbent on taking the heavy music community by storm with an onslaught of thought-provoking, sinister and brutally aggressive tracks. Built around an impetus that obliterates any notion of single-genre classification in favour of an immersive yet punishingly heavy experience, Borders continually push the limits of what's expected from any band in the metalcore circuit.
From taking the UK’s live music scene by storm supporting legendary deathcore act Martyr Defiled on their last run to their immersive, conceptual and thought-provoking 2019 debut full length release Purify, the band are well on their way to making themselves a staple in the underground heavy music community - a goal sure to be achieved with their addition to Arising Empire’s ever-growing roster. Ithaca Posts New Music Video Online
Acclaimed UK metallic hardcore troupe Ithaca have released their stunning new single/video "Camera Eats First," taken from their long-awaited second album, "They Fear Us," due July 29th via Hassle Records. You can check out the video below.
The video for "Camera Eats First" references Martin Scorsese's legendary short The Big Shave, with vocalist Djamila Boden Azzouz's makeup design a nod to Marie Antoinette and her attributed quote 'let them eat cake!'. The band comments: "With this video we're using stark contrasts to create a sense of pure unease - rococo indulgence meets clinical experiment, luxury with grotesque gorging, beauty with violence. The discomfort is designed to hold up a mirror to ourselves; in an era of self-surveillance and constant presentation, who is in control, who is the aggressor and, ultimately, are you devouring or is the camera devouring you?" Great White Replaces Vocalist
For a band to continue to thrive 40 years in the music business, the mantra must be, these songs are bigger than any one member. Grammy nominated hard rock legends Great White are adding onto that line with the saying: expect the unexpected. It’s rock and roll, baby. The peaks and the valleys haven’t stopped– nor has the music. Great White’s ride runs deep and its passion for the music goes beyond any depth.
Four decades in and Great White has announced that it has enlisted Andrew Freeman to take over vocal duties.
"Andrew brings another vocal perspective, a different grit in his delivery," lead guitarist, Mark Kendall said. "We’re so proud of our past. We’re humbled that our fans have stood by us for all these years – Andrew being here now is the next chapter. We couldn’t be more excited for fans to hear him sing the hits and help us continue to forge ahead."
That arsenal of songs include the Grammy nominated Best Hard Rock Performance hit, "Once Bitten, Twice Shy," Great White has sold over 10 million albums worldwide, has six Top 100 Billboard hits, nine Top 200 Billboard albums, two platinum albums, and clocked the top of MTV four times.
"I’m absolutely honored to contribute to the Great White legacy,” Freeman, who previously toured as guitarist for The Offspring, sang lead for George Lynch’s Lynch Mob and is also the lead singer for Last In Line, a band made up of former DIO members. “I’m fully aware of the history of this band and its brotherhood. Let’s rock." More...
