Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 7
Last week on Metalunderground.com's Official Podcast, we brought you two young and very special Canadian bands, The Kindred and Hollow. And sure enough on this week's episode, co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) continues indulging in his love for progressive (and, coincidentally, Canadian) bands.
Toronto, Ontario's Intervals, formed in 2011 and until late last year a strictly instrumental band, have just debuted with the full-length "A Voice Within," within which you'll indeed find a voice: frontman Mike Semesky. Kevin considers some of the musical developments this shift in focus has spurred.
Next, co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) makes a painful, heavy-hearted effort to dissect his conflicted feelings about the latest Iced Earth release "Plagues Of Babylon" (reviewed here). It is the veteran metal band's tenth studio album, and so far to Mike's ears, falls tragically short of the dazzling comeback that was 2011's "Dystopia."
Finally ensues a discussion of singer Howard Jones, the positives and negatives of his contributions to the mighty Killswitch Engage, and his brand new group dubbed Devil You Know.
Take a listen here, enjoy, and offer us your feedback.

"This EP showcases our growth, not only as a band, but as song writers," says keyboardist Mark Focarile. "Sonically, the production really captures our live energy and channelling our experiences the past few years allowed us to identify what we wanted to say as a band, while evolving musically. We're a young group that's been through a lot, but that experience has matured us as artists, and keeps pushing us forward."

Cradle Of Filth Guitarist Undergoing Surgery
Cradle of Filth has issued the following announcement about guitarist James McIlroy undergoing surgery:
"Tomorrow, March the fifteenth, James Mcilroy, guitar hairwolf, will be having the delicate operation to repair his spine carried out, the very same shit that has kept him absent from the recent tour of Europe, and caused him so much pain over playing the last few years.
"Pressed, though obviously not too heavily, on the subject, James had this to say when he emailed me this evening with the news...
Anyway I am going into hospital today as they've graciously decided to give me a bed, and will be going into surgery tomorrow late morning or early afternoon. Operation lasts about 3-5 hours, and I should be back among the living on Sunday. It kind of goes something like this:
All the support, and well wishes from across the world, the band and crewdle has been amazing, and I couldn't wish for more support in my quest to obtain a similar 360 degree head movement of an owl (if you're going to get part of your neck replaced, you may as well upgrade)! After this, I'll also technically be more metal...
Thanks to everyone, and see you on the other side, ready to fucking rock!
"I hope you all can join with the band in wishing him well in advance of the operation and in a speedy recovery. We miss the lashing windmills!"

Sabaton Comments On Bonus Cover Tracks
For the upcoming new record "Heroes," Swedish heavy metal institution Sabaton now reveals the different track listings, including all the bonus tracks that will be available.
Among them are three cover versions of Metallica, Battle Beast, and Raubtier.
"Heroes" will be released on May 16th, 2014 via Nuclear Blast. The band comments on the bonus tracks:
"METALLICA - ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls:' All of us are old fans of Metallica The choice of the song was difficult, but we all could agree on that one. As an addition, ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ was the first heavy metal song ever performed on a stage by Pär.
"BATTLE BEAST - ‘Out Of Control:' Battle Beast was our secret guest at our latest Sabatoncruise and we all enjoyed watching them perform their songs live. We thought we wanted to support young and upcoming bands and decided to do a cover of them.
"RAUBTIER - ‘En Hjältes Väg:' Raubtier are our brothers from the north of Sweden. We have played together countless times and in the past, and Thobbe used to be in this band. At a special concert in 2012 Joakim performed this song live together with Raubtier and it awoke the idea of doing a cover-version. Seeing to the song title it was also a natural choice for our latest album "Heroes.'"

The album will be released on April 25th via the band's own label, Freezing Penguin, and distributed worldwide by Svart Records. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"The production on Curimus' Artificial Revolution is the handiwork of both the band themselves and main producer Tom Gardiner and studio wizard Daniel Rantanen. When compared to debut album Realization (2011), much more work was done with pre-production on this one.
"After the first round of demos, it was already clear that the material destined to become the second Curimus album was to be more powerful and diverse than ever before. In production sessions, more focus was given to building a solid set of tracks, and this led to many songs experiencing major shape-shifting as the project rolled on. More...

The band is currently recording in its hometown with Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations Studios (Mutilation Rites, Full of Hell, Magrudergrind).
“The direction of this record is an extension of our previous two both in content and sound, but with a more pronounced sense of urgency,” explains Matt Taylor. “Musically, The songs are a bit faster and more chaotic, and the lyrical content follows the same sense of frantic frustration.”
Old Lines formed in 2010 and is made up of Mitch Roemer, Jake Berry, Matt Taylor and Pat Martin. The band’s merciless sound is directly fueled by an outspoken political and social agenda and vehement disdain for corruption and injustices that plague society.

Helmsplitter Releasing Second Album
Rock Island, Illinois' Helmsplitter has made their Horror Pain Gore Death Productions debut with the death metal beast known as "Enraptured By Suffering." Stream "Aura of Suicide" from that upcoming eleven-track album below.
Helmsplitter was born in the summer of 2008 when guitarist Ross Mallie and drummer Nate Boyd joined forces. After filling out the rest of the lineup the band spent the next few years playing shows around the Midwestern region of the United States as well as recording a demo.
Around this time it became apparent that the band would have to part ways with their original singer and bass player due to a combination of scheduling difficulties and musical differences. Vocalist Blakk and bassist Lyndon Ehlers were contacted in regards to filling the empty positions, and it was not long before both accepted the invitation.
This lineup overhaul was exactly what the band needed to become what it was intended to be from the beginning. The music became more dark and sinister, and the lyrics became more thought provoking and disturbing. The visual aspect of the band also evolved as a result of the band agreeing on a new logo and artwork direction.
"Storms of Genocide," the band's self-released debut album, began to circulate around the underground and eventually caught the attention of Mike Juliano, owner of Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. February 18th of 2014 saw the release of "Enraptured by Suffering," Helmsplitter's second album and HPGD debut.
The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Scott Creekmore (Broken Hope, Lupara, Num Skull) at Mercenary Digital Studios during the months of September and October of 2013.
Invertia Releasing Debut Full-Length Album
Ohm Resistance Records has set April 8th as the date on which "Another Scheme of the
Wicked" from industrialized black metallers Invertia will be released. Invertia is the New England duo of guitarist/vocalist Dave Coppola and drummer/programmer Tim Winson.
A mirror displaying some of the darkest paradoxes and truly terrifying segments of American society, Invertia's music ridicules the hypocrisy of cult-religious fervor with shred guitars and psycho-bombastic drum programming.
The follow up album to 2013's self-titled debut, "Another Scheme of the Wicked" combines a blistering five-track assault with five remixes from musical backgrounds, including Ohm Resistance veterans Justin K. Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu), End.user (The Blood Of Heroes), and Submerged (Method Of Definance, The Blood Of Heroes).
One of the strangest moments ever recorded on Ohm Resistance occurs during the R3TRD remix of "They're Everywhere," with a Pentecostal preacher vampirishly admonishing children to visit with him as he speaks in tongues. Stream "The Sidewinding" below, which will be the first track on the upcoming album. More...

Mausoleum Gate Signs To Cruz Del Sur Music
Cruz Del Sur music is welcoming Finnish sensational newcomers Mausoleum Gate to its roster. The band is retro hard rock/heavy metal, deeply rooted in a late 70's/early 80's atmosphere, forged in the blood of Saxon, in the power and rudeness of the NWOBHM movement, in the spritual, epic nature of Cirith Ungol but even in the elegance of Uriah Heep.
Mausoleum Gate will release its self-titled debut album in mid-October under the sign of Cruz Del Sur Music, on compact disc, vinyl and digital formats. Their sold-out cassette EP "Gateways For the Wicked" will be soon re-pressed by the band itself on compact disc, to be distributed at the next Keep It True festival. Listen to a couple studio selections from Mausoleum Gate over at this location. More...

Revelation Album Being Reissued
Shadow Kingdom Records will reissue a Doom Metal classic called "Salvation's Answer" from Baltimore's Revelation on April 29th. Check out the album stream over at the label's bandcamp page and below in the player. Shadow Kingdom's Tim McGrogan gives us the rundown:
"Shadow Kingdom Records is thrilled to finally re-issue a groundbreaking 90's doom metal classic - Revelation - 'Salvation's Answer.' This was originally released on the classic Rise Above Records all the way back in 1991. It was one of their first releases when they started the label.
Even today, there's nothing quite like this album, a lost gem stuck in the sands of time. Very few bands have been influenced by Revelation's unique brand of progressive doom metal. This is a special album that will only attract people who are really looking for sub-basement classics."

Shadow Kingdom Reissuing Manilla Road Release
Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the latest in a string of Manilla Road reissues with the Wichita, KS band's sixth album, "Mystification." Manilla Road's official sixth full-length is the last of what many longtime fans consider as their most classic 'golden years' period. "Mystification" will be officially re-released via the label on April 29th.
"Mystification" marked Manilla Road's first foray into the realm of thrash metal. The band had played with faster tempos on previous albums, but this is a record that delivered an intensity comparable to early Slayer. Manilla Road mainman Mark Shelton proved himself to be one of heavy metal's most skilled songwriters with this flawless mix of classic and thrash metal.
This reissue is noteworthy for being the first edition of "Mystification" to be released on CD in the original song order along with the original mixing and mastering. This will be a huge treat for fans that have never heard the album this way because the re-issue done in the year 2000, was mixed and mastered differently along with the track order switched around. You'll finally be able to hear the way it was originally was back in 1987.
