UMC, the promoters of the annual 70,000 Tons of Metal Festival, have named Germany's Blind Guardian as the first band for the 2015 edition of the event. In 2015, the original floating metal festival casts off on Thursday, January 22, 2015 and returns on Tuesday, January 26, 2015.
Of the many changes for the 2015 installment, the event will take place on a new boat and from a new port of call. The new cruise will embark from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with a stop at Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The ship will be the larger Royal Caribbean ship Liberty of the Seas (as opposed to the now decommissioned Majesty of the Seas). The ship will accommodate four stages (possibly five) and the festival has expanded to 60 bands, from 40.
All information on the festival, along with booking information can be found at 70000tons.com.
