Scott Weiland Arrested For Drugs, Goes To Rehab

Just one week after being congratulated by a judge for staying clean, SCOTT WEILAND has been arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. The former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS frontman/current VELVET REVOLVER singer, who turned 36 on the day of this most recent arrest, was apprehended Monday morning in Los Angeles at 6:37 a.m. An L.A. police spokesperson said that an officer was dispatched at 6:07 a.m. to the corner of Melrose and Genesee, where Weiland's 2001 BMW allegedly struck a parked van. No injuries were reported.

MTV News reports that after determining that his arrest for a DUI earlier this week violated his probation, on Thursday a Pasadena judge ordered Stone Temple Pilots frontman/ Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland to undergo detox immediately. Weiland has been ordered to report to Grandview in Pasadena for a six month residential program, according to a court clerk. Starting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Metal Blade Nearly Burns

Metal Blade Records nearly joined the list of casualties this week when the fire ravaging California nearly engulfed their Simi Valley location. The label posted the following:

Dissection Continues Search for Musicians

Dissection guitarist/vocalist Jon Nödtvedt and drummer Bård "Faust" Eithun (ex-Emperor) have spent the past few weeks looking through the audition videos that have been sent to them from all over the world. In the beginning of next year, real auditions will be held for some of the musicians needed to complete the group's lineup. It is, however, not too late for interested musicians to send in their tapes.

New Swedish "Supergroup" Gets a Name

God Among Insects is the name of the brand-new Swedish "old-school" death metal band featuring guitarist Lord K (a.k.a. Kenth Philipson) (The Project Hate), vocalist Jörgen Sandström (Entombed, The Project Hate, ex-GRAVE), bassist Tomas Elofsson (Sanctification) and drummer Tobias Gustafsson (Vomitory).

"We still have a few more songs to complete but things are going as planned and it all sounds excellent," Lord K writes in an online posting. "Down-tuned, old-school and brutal. Like a mixture of old GRAVE, BOLT THROWER, MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE and whatnot. We are looking forward to get these songs on tape and let you guys hear some excellent death metal in 2004. More...

Impaled Nazarene To Play at Schulinder Benefit

Impaled Nazarene, Where Victims Lie (the new thrash metal band formed by members of Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus, Funeris Nocturnum, Alghazanth and Sotajumala), Viikate, Charon and Diablo have been confirmed to appear at the second installment of the "The Fragile Art Of Existence - A Tribute To Chuck Schuldiner" concert, which will take place on Saturday, December 13 at Tullikamari's Klubi & Pakkahuone (capacity 1,500) in Tampere, Finland. Tickets will cost around 10 euros, with all proceeds going to charity.

Former Ancient Vocalist to Guest on New CD

Former Ancient singer Lord Kaiaphas (ex-Thokk, Grand Belial's Key) will make a guest appearance on the band's forthcoming CD, tentatively due in the spring through Metal Blade Records. The album will be recorded in January at Mirage and Alpha-Omega studios and the mixing and mastering will take place in early February at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2001's "Proxima Centauri" will contain 10 new tracks — three written by Jesus Christ and the remaining seven by Aphazel, Dhilorz and Grom. A video to promote the album will be shot in London in February.

Dismember DVD Delayed

Long-running Swedish death metallers Dismember have pushed back the release date of their upcoming double DVD to January 26, 2004. The first disc will contain the group's live performance from May 27, 2003 at Klubben in Stockholm, while the second disc will feature a 90-minute documentary/home video spanning the group's entire career.

Dismember's new album, "Where Ironcrosses Grow", is due in early 2004 through Karmageddon Media (formerly Hammerheart Records). The follow-up to 2000's "Hate Campaign" was recorded at Stockholm's Sami studio and will feature artwork by acclaimed artist Dan Seagrave (Entombed, Suffocation, Morbid Angel). Among the cuts set to appear on the effort are "Tragedy Of The Faithful", "Sword Of Light", "Where Ironcrosses Grow", "Chasing The Serpent", and "Me-God".

Supreme Majesty Becomes a Sextet

Swedish melodic metallers Supreme Majesty have announced the addition of guitarist Tobias Wernersson to the group's ranks. An MP3 of Tobias' "breathtaking" interpretation of Yngwie Malmsteen's "Far Beyond The Sun" can be downloaded here. "This new addition means that Chrille Andersson, formerly on both guitars and keyboards, will be able to focus 100% on the keyboards," the group write in an official press release. "It also puts the band in a better position for making live gigs than before, due to the simple fact that no session keyboardist is needed anymore.

"The guys are very excited with this new addition and are certain that it will contribute greatly to the development of Supreme Majesty as a band."

Ablaze My Sorrow, Morifade Set for 2000 Decibel

Ablaze My Sorrow, Arise, Morifade, Notre Dame and Wolf are the first bands confirmed for the fifth edition of the 2000 Decibel festival, which is scheduled to take place on May 21-22, 2004 in Bengtsfors, Sweden (180 km north of Gothenburg). It is the first time the festival will be a two-day event. Thirty-four bands will play on three different stages.

What makes 2000 Decibel special is the fact that it is the only festival that is totally dedicated to Swedish hard rock and metal. If you visit the festival you will get the chance to see some of the best bands that Sweden has to offer.

Opeth Postpone Australian Tour

Opeth have had to reschedule their previously announced Australian tour, originally slated to take place in December, because the price of flights to Australia were "ridiculously expensive" due to the time of year, making the tour uneconomical.

The dates will be re scheduled for the last week of March 2004. Dates will be announced shortly. The group will also be attempting to include Perth this time.

The End Ink Deal with Relapse
