Pantera Members Name New Band Damageplan
Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul have officially named their new band Damageplan. The group, whose debut album is due January 27 through Elektra Records, also features singer Patrick Lachman, who used to play guitar in Halford and Diesel Machine. Former Jerry Cantrell back-up guitarist Shawn Matthews, who played bass in an early incarnation of Damageplan (then called New Found Power), is no longer involved with the project (a replacement bassist may be announced as early as this Friday, according to the group's management). The album, tentatively titled "New Found Power", was recorded at Darrell's home studio, Chasin Jason, and was produced by Darrell and Paul along with Sterling Winfield (Pantera, Mercyful Fate). Guests include Slipknot's Corey Taylor (lead vocals on second verse and bridge and half of last verse in "Fuck You") and Ozzy Osbourne/Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde (lead outro on "Reborn" and backing vocals on "Soulbleed").

Kernon had the following to say about the end result: "It's always fun to work with Cannibal, and I think this album is turning out way more brutal than their last one (Gore Obsessed)."

Former Megadeth Guitarist Releases Solo Album
Former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman released his latest solo CD, "Music For Speeding", in Indonesia on October 15 and sold over 700 copies in two days, which — according to Friedman's web site — is "an extremely impressive number. Even more impressive is that this is despite Marty having yet to ever visit the beautiful country. Indonesian distributor Alfa Records are very pleased with the initial reaction to the record."
In other news, Marty will appear on the nationwide broadcast of "Music Fair" in Japan. This popular program is also available on many satellite systems around the world. Marty will tape his segment on November 11, so the broadcast date will likely be within the following week. This will be Marty's first-ever appearance on "Music Fair".
