Haken Releases New Video

Haken is set to hit the road in North America later this month for the band's 10th anniversary tour. In advance of that trek, the band just released a brand new psychedelic and sci-fi animated video for the track "Lapse," taken from last year's "Affinity" (reviewed here) and created by Miles Skarin at Crystal Spotlight.

The band comments: "Lapse was one of the first tracks we wrote for Affinity. Now more than a year since the album's release, it's great to finally give this song a chance to stand out on its own, as it's one of our favorites!

"Visually, we wanted to maintain a consistency with our videos for 'Initiate,' 'Earthrise,' and 'The Endless Knot,' so we returned to Miles Skarin at Crystal Spotlight to complete the series. The video incorporates a 3D motion capture technique (previously used on Frost*'s 'Numbers' video) to tie in with Affinity's themes of artificial intelligence/consciousness." More...

Haema Inks Deal With Sliptrick

Formed in late 2015, Haema is a 4 piece experimental, industrialized groove metal band based in Northamptonshire, UK. The group now proudly announces an official signing to Slipltrick Records. The label comments:

"Within 2 years as a band, Haema crafted a unique and individual sound that has been compared to the likes of Fear Factory mixed with Tool and Rage Against The Machine overtones. The music has been described as raw emotion, down-tuned riffs and liberal use of electronics. Spoken-word vocals, abrasive growls and screams, crushing downbeat riffs and cauterized grooves capable of shaking the ground of any rock/metal club night.

"Recently, the band completed the recording of what will be a debut EP with producer Neil Hudson (Krysthla/Gutworm). The 'Insurrection' EP consists of 5 devilish new tracks and we’ll be announcing the release date soon. 'Insurrection' sees Haema deliver a heavy sound with melodic elements that is aggressively delivered during live shows." More...

Geist Announces "Disrepair"

The northeast of England's hardcore scene has faded into relative darkness compared to a decade or so ago, but there are a those who keep the torches burning. Durham riff merchant Geist is one such band.

With a sound that is self described as “...too metal for the punks and too punk for metalheads" and one that goes several steps further than the generic "mosh-core" that has encroached on the wider scene in recent years, Geist carved a dark, festering wound into the body of U.K. hardcore.

With the band's latest offering, a single sided 12” LP and limited digi CD aptly entitled "Disrepair," Geist shows no sign of relenting. Recorded by hardcore veteran Jason Frye at Century Audio and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, "Disrepair" imposes 6 chaotic tracks of dark, crusty hardcore, due out September 22nd. More...

Bloodshot Dawn Records New Album

In the last few days U.K. melodic death metal crew Bloodshot Dawn entered the studio to begin work on a third full-length album, which will be entitled "Reanimation" and is slated for released in early 2018 via Hostile Media.

Frontman Josh McMorran comments, "We are pleased to announce we have joined forces with Hostile Media to release our third full length, 'Reanimation'. After working with their press team for years we have built a stalwart relationship that we believe will help take us to the next level as well as making it easier to purchase our music across the globe. Their passion and commitment is equal to our tenacity and hard work ethic making this a force to be reckoned with!"

Since previous releases there has been a shift in the band's ranks making way for new members: Canadian shredder Morgan Reid and drummer James Stewart (also of Vader and Divine Chaos). The band commented earlier about James joining the fold, "His experience and recording insight has helped shape the new album and we couldn't be happier!"

As well as the news of an imminent new release the band has announced a new UK/Ireland tour: "We are also excited to be hitting the tour circuit again after a short hiatus. We are hungry for live devastation and looking forward to seeing fans old and new!" More...

Bell Witch Announces Single-Track Album

Seattle doom metal duo Bell Witch will release third full-length album "Mirror Reaper" worldwide on October 20th via Profound Lore Records. With "Mirror Reaper," Bell Witch has created an enormous work - one continuous, eighty-three-minute piece unfolding as a single track.

Engineered and mixed by veteran producer Billy Anderson (Swans, Sleep, Neurosis), the duo of Dylan Desmond (bass, vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums, vocals, organ) have pushed the band's sound further beyond 2015 LP, "Four Phantoms." The artwork for Mirror Reaper was painted by Mariusz Lewandowski.

Bell Witch comments: "The title 'Mirror Reaper' is indicative of the Hermetic axiom 'As Above, So Below,' written with two sides to form one whole. The song is both its own and its reflection, as an opposite is whole only with its contrary. Our focus as a band has always been the perception of ghosts and the implied archetype of the dichotomy of life/death therein. 'Mirror Reaper' is a continuation of that concept.

"During the writing process we were devastated by the loss of our dear friend and former drummer, Adrian Guerra. In love and respect to his memory, we reserved an important yet brief section in the song for him that features unused vocal tracks from our last album. This specific movement serves as a conceptual turn in the piece, or point of reflection. We believe he would be proud of it as well. 'Mirror Reaper' was the first collaborative writing project with the new lineup, and Adrian's death during it brought extra emotional weight. We sought to match the complexity and weight of these events within the composition of the piece." More...

Enslaved Unveils New Album

Avant-garde Norwegian group Enslaved will unleash a new studio album on October 13th 2017. This 14th full-length album sets the musical mind-twisters free from genre boundaries and offers a mix of prog, extreme metal, and shoegaze on eight tracks with a playing time of more than an hour.

The album was mixed and mastered at the Fascination Street Studios by Jens Bogren.

As support for this brave sound journey, the group brought several guest musicians on board for the songs "Hiindsiight" and "Feathers Of Eolh," including Wardruna's Einar Kvitrafn Selvik, flutist Daniel Mage, and jazz saxophonist Kjetil Møster.

Cons Posts New EP Online

After we premiered latest song "The Burden Of Knowing Why," Tuscon hardocre group Cons is now streaming full debut EP "Slowhealer" in the player below.

Cons, formerly known as Coma Prevail, recently signed to Revival Recordings, home to Alesana, Famous Last Words, and The Funeral Portrait. With an updated lineup, change in vocal style, and a fresh wave of creative energy, the band has opened a new chapter of its musical career.

"Slowhealer" is officially due out August 11th and was recorded, produced, and mixed by Beau Burchell (Saosin, It Prevails, Emery). The EP aims to capture the angst of a band having gone through the death of their friends and both the regrets and triumphs of growing up disenfranchised in a small desert city.

Guitarist Jeremy Talley expands, "We write about things that are interesting or troubling to us...we try to provide a light at the end of the tunnel if there's a way to positively spin something without having to force it.

"We recorded 'Slowhealer' almost 2 years ago and had plans to self release and basically give it away just to get our music out there. That being said we couldn't be more honored and stoked to release this through Revival. It brings a sense of validation to what we've been working so hard on, to have a great label show interest and pick up the reins and give it the proper release that we feel it deserves. Thank you to everyone involved in this with us. We can't wait to get this out there and get to work. " More...

Khazaddum Premieres "Masters of the Plains"

"Plagues Upon Arda" is Khazaddum's sophomore release. Following the 2015 "In Dwarven Halls" EP, the band's forthcoming full-length album offers a deeper glimpse into the tragic world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Returning with its signature "Dwarven Death Metal" assault, the Milwaukee group has taken this concept to another level. Incorporating symphonic orchestration throughout the album in order to illuminate the epic scale of the story told within, the nine-track opus delivers a barrage of crushing death metal that bears witness to the harrowing tales of the denizens of Middle-Earth.

"Plagues Upon Arda" was recorded at No Passenger Studio by Spencer Fox and Trae Titus and will be released on August 19, 2017.
