First Review Of New AC/DC Album Available

Rollingstone.com has posted a short description of the new AC/DC album, "Black Ice" which is as follows:

"AC/DC singer Brian Johnson promised that they’d tour in 2008. Well, he wasn’t kidding. Soon they’ll begin rehearsals in a secret location, before hitting US arenas in late fall. We heard this news at the Sony HQ on New York’s Madison Avenue, before hearing all 15 tracks of the band’s earthshaking new Black Ice, recorded in Vancouver in just eight weeks with Brendan O’Brien. On it, Brian wails about skies on fire, blood in his eyes, storms raging, lightning flashes, hard rain and pretty women. Angus Young shreds throughout (we dig his slide work on 'Decibel'), and the rhythm cats — Malcom Young, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd — are solid as a rock. The first single is 'Rock ‘N Roll Train'; 'She Likes Rock ‘N Roll' will be a stripper anthem; and 'War Machine' (our favorite) will tear you to pieces."

Ozzy Osbourne Inks New Three Album Deal With Sony

The following report is courtesy of Ray Waddell from Billboard.biz:

Ozzfest 2008, with METALLICA and OZZY OSBOURNE as headliners, grossed nearly $3.5 million and drew close to 30,000 people to Dallas' Pizza Hut Park, according to producers Sharon Osbourne and AEG Live. Sponsored by Affliction Clothing, this year's Ozzfest marked the return of the 13-year-old music brand after a free run at amphitheaters last year.

This year's one-off event did "fantastically well," Sharon Osbourne tells Billboard.biz. "The one thing is you want for the kids to go away and keep talking about what a great show it was, and that's what they're doing." More...

New Guns N Roses Album To Be Retail Exclusive?

Blabbermouth.net reports: Ed Christman of Billboard.com reports that negotiations are underway for GUNS N' ROSES' long-delayed "Chinese Democracy" to come out as an exclusive at one of the big boxes — either Wal-Mart or Best Buy.

Negotiations are also ongoing to have conventional record company distribution, a source tells Billboard.com.

GUNS N' ROSES is now managed by Irving Azoff's Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released THE EAGLES' "Long Road Out of Eden" through Wal-Mart, much to the chagrin of other merchants.

Celtic Frost Becomes Officially Terminated

Triptykon/ex-Celtic Frost mainman Tom Fischer has posted the following message online:

"The intense rain outside continues unabated, and, far in the distance, the torn, grey clouds merge with the earth, obscuring any hint of a horizon. A fitting scenery to a final act of ignominy. I attended seven and a half funereal hours of meetings yesterday, initially with Celtic Frost/Triptykon manager Antje Lange, then including Martin Eric Ain and Celtic Frost's accountant, to discuss in detail the dissolution of most of Celtic Frost's business arrangements and the distribution of the group's remaining assets. What an infinitely doleful and emotionally draining undertaking, and one I did not ever wish to witness. And yet one that was probably unavoidable."

Fischer initially left the group in April of this year citing internal conflict as the reason and taking all music he had been writing for Celtic Frost with him to use in his new band, Triptykon which also features original Celtic Frost drummer Reed St. Mark and Dark Fortress/ex-Celtic Frost touring guitarist V Santura.

Edguy Reveals New Album Release Date

Edguy has recently posted a new interview with frontman Tobias Sammet on their official website which contains information on the bands forthcoming new album. Check out some excerpts below:

Q: You mentioned that you won't go back to the roots, how would you describe the new material then?
Tobias: "We don't go back to the roots, we never denied who we are and where we come from, so I don't see a reason to go back to wherever. I go straight forward and follow my heart as I've always done, Tinnitus Sanctus is exactly the music we wanna play, we are happy and I don't give a fuck if it's gonna be our biggest selling album or not. It's so great, even if my career would go down the drain and this would be the last album, I'd be more than happy to be remembered as the guy who recorded Tinnitus Sanctus. I'd rather ruin my career with a creative killer album like that than trying to play safe with a boring stereotype Power Metal stinker constructed on a drawing table. We have a couple of song titles such as 'Dragonfly', 'Dead Or Rock', 'Wake Up Dreaming Black' or 'Sex Fire Religion' And we'll shoot a video for a very heavy mid-tempo-anthem by the name of 'Ministry Of Saints'. And there'll be a bonus track called "Aren't You A Little Pervert Too?" which is quite nasty." More...

Mithras Announces New Drummer

Following the recent search to fill the long vacant live drummer spot, MITHRAS have now chosen their man. Previous live drummer / guitarist Ben White (Of Orbeth) departed the band back in 2003 and through a chance meeting which led to an explosive audition, has returned to the fold and his old drum seat. To their relief, this puts the UK's revered extreme metal protagonists back on the circuit for live performances, something they have missed hugely and are keen to return to without delay.

Rayner Coss (oratory/bass) says of Ben's return: "It's great to have Ben, one of our former members back in the band; he knows the material fantastically and is perfect for the role. We auditioned him and he nailed 11 songs taken from all our albums right off the bat, so we're really excited and looking forward to getting on stage for some shows asap!"

Of Ben's rejoining the band, Leon Macey (guitars) reveals that he "got in touch with Ben almost out of the blue during the drum auditions period to gather some material for our upcoming release, but one thing led to another and now we're slaying the tracks in the rehearsal room!"

And the man in question, Ben White (drums), adds: "Fate it seems has dealt a good card for us all! It was really cool when Mithras got back in touch again and as we have all evolved as musicians it seems to work better than ever now. It's good to be back!"

With this line-up Mithras is now ready to perform live shows and is available for bookings.
