"Global Metal" Documentary Features Orphaned Land
Kobi Farhi, vocalist of Israel’s ORPHANED LAND has posted the following statement regarding the status of the band’s highly anticipated follow-up to 2004’s much celebrated "Mabool" album as well as their participation in the upcoming new documentary by Sam Dunn ("Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey") "Global Metal:"
"Hello to all the orphans out there! We are happy to inform you that the writing process of our long awaited album 'The Never Ending Way Of OrwarriOR' is about to end soon, we have more than 90 minutes of written music. We don’t like to repeat ourselves, so do not expect a 'Mabool Vol. 2”! Of course, the female vocals and the oriental instruments will be there as always, but “ORwarriOR” is different and I can say for sure that it is more extreme, powerful and less progressive. Still, like all our albums, it is ORPHANED LAND and you'll all notice that. Watch out for the first single, which is the opener of the album called: 'Sapari!'" More...
Trouble Parts Ways with Drummer Jeff Oly Olson
Trouble’s drummer, Jeff Oly Olson, has issued the following statement on his MySpace page regarding his departure from Trouble:
"Under great consideration, I have decided to part ways with Trouble. My reasons are justified. I felt like I was never taken seriously as a musician with the guys from Trouble, but I did the best I could in that 28 year effort with the band. That is all I would like to say for now. However, this is not a retirement from the music industry for I have my band, Retro Grave, with the full length coming out in a few months with fine players (the EP was a solo effort). I thank the Trouble fans for all their support and dedication and I'm sorry if I let you down. Moreover, I will say that Bruce and Rick are the drive and sound for Trouble and every one else are replaceable, so I'm sure they will carry on well. It's been an honor to have played with Bruce, Rick and Eric. I would also like to mention to Kerrang Magazine that I'm not leaving to become a preacher as you once noted many years ago and never corrected".

Boris and Torche Melt Vancouver
On July 30, Boris hit a mid-sized Vancouver bar called Richards On Richards. You should know for next time: before you head to a Boris show, you'd better square up with the universe. There's no nine-foot skinhead to boot your face in the moshpit, there's nobody in the bathroom doing coke off a bowie knife -- but you could still get hurt. It's those ultra-low frequencies, back and forth between your nervous system and bowels, until your spine explodes and paints the back wall pink. So square up first. I'm talking prayer bowls and mantras, I'm talking incense -- but shove the smouldering incense cones right into your eardrums, for Satan's sake. Sandalwood or patchouli earplugs. This is metal here, true metal, no matter how much attention the drummer pays to his huge silver gong. More...
Suspyre Announces New Keyboardist, April Sese
New Jersey progressive metallers, SUSPYRE, have announced this weekend after months of auditions that they have a new member, keyboardist APRIL SESE.
Suspyre welcomes the new keyboardist and discuss her musical background:
"April Sese was born into a musical family. Her grandfather founded a professional 7 piece band in the 70s that included her mother on drums, father on guitar, aunt on vocals, uncle on sax and keys, plus family friends on bass and male vocals. Her family exposed her to a wide range of musical genres. Needless to say, she has been an eclectic music lover her entire life. She began her classical training on piano at the age of 7 and continued on for thirteen years under Yoomi Choi from the Manhattan School of Music. During high school she accompanied choral groups, sang for jazz band and participated in various music-related competitions and events. She currently takes private music theory lessons at The Collective in New York City under Hernando Fernandez and Bob Quaranta." More...

Vomitron To Sign to Screaming Ferret Wreckords?
Massachusetts instrumental metal project, Vomitron, issues the following update regarding the possible signing to Screaming Ferret Wreckords on his MySpace page:

"But imagine that: distro, art, replication. All will taken care of, you might even be able to go down to your local shop and pick up the CD, which is just crazy." More...
Man Sentenced To Six Years After Ozzfest Crime
Blabbermouth.net reports: Illinois' The Herald News reports that a 33-year-old Crest Hill man has been sentenced to six years behind bars for sexually assaulting a woman at Tinley Park's First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre during Ozzfest 2006.
Patrick Miller pleaded guilty Monday (August 4) to one count of criminal sexual assault in a Bridgeview courtroom, according to Cook County state's attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton. Circuit Judge Colleen McSweeney-Moore set Miller's sentence.
Immediately after the July 16, 2006, concert attack — which occurred in a secluded, grassy area west of the amphitheater, near 191st Street and east of Harlem Avenue — Tinley Park police were able to recover evidence from the victim and the crime scene. However, it took nearly a year for a state-run crime lab to process evidence and match up a suspect, police Cmdr. Phil Valois said. During that time, police continued their investigation trying to track down a suspect.

The Funeral Pyre Issues Post-Tour Update
The Funeral Pyre has offered a post-tour update on the band's official blog:
"I've really lost my bearings this time. I was doing very well with all of the updates from the road, but then I guess I just stopped caring. Oh well, I'll recap. We played shows, got blackout drunk, played shows, offended people, played shows, shit on couches, played shows, now we're home. There's the wrap up for everything. Nothing too exciting, nothing too crazy. Just a bunch of losers who play music together traveling around in a van. With all of this being said there really isn't any news except for a few things."
"1) There will be a vinyl release of the latest record Wounds
2) We're going to start writing already for another record. The title will come soon.
3) We will probably only do one more tour for the rest of the year, which I know most of you don't care about, but to those who do, we're sorry, we can't afford to tour anymore." More...

METAL CHURCH have posted this announcement on their official website:
"We are forced to cancel some of the upcoming dates (August 14 and 16). It kills us to have to do this. It is too bad bullshit has to get in the way of us doing what we love.

Heaven And Hell Drummer Speaks On New Songs
In a recent interview with Metal-Rules.com, Heaven And Hell drummer Vinnie Appice spoke about the bands new material and more. An except from the interview is as follows:
Metal-Rules.com: Were there any other obstacles to overcome in reuniting the band, like in regards to rebuilding relationships, with Ronnie for example?
Vinny Appice: "After me leaving to play with OZZY? [laughs] Ahh... it was cool, but then yeah, we finally got the chance to sit down in the same car together, and we're riding forever, to talk about everything. So, it's just water under the bridge now. I just look ahead, things happen, that's the way it is. But right now with everybody, it's really sweet, really smooth."
Metal-Rules.com: That is good to hear. Can you tell us what stage the new HEAVEN AND HELL studio album is at right now?
Vinny Appice: "Right now we have six songs... about six songs written. They're just demos and they sound fucking awesome! Heavy, great... sounds like really cool SABBATH!"

Obituary Vocalist Checks In
Obituary vocalist John Tardy has posted the following road report online:
"This year's Wacken festival in Germany was unbelievable. We really had a good time and appreciate all the fans support. I think the Wacken crew all did a great job and we thank them for inviting us to this year's event! It was a sold out weekend, somewhere around 80,000 people!!!!
"We played in Finland the night before and it was one of those...off stage at 2:00AM, lobby call at 4:00AM, flights at 6:00AM and on stage at Wacken 4:00PM...and they lost our luggage so Frank [Watkins; bass] and I had to go on stage in the only clothes we had...awesome! At least all the equipment showed up or we really would have been fucked! The show in Finland was great, sold out and sick! Thanks to all of you that came out to see us!
"We now have a few days off that we are spending in Hamburg, Germany before we take off to Copenhagen, Denmark for the next show. At least we don't have to fly. Actually we are done flying until we head back home. Only two shows left so I hope you can make one of them and remember we will have the new 'Left To Die' EP with us!"
Cattle Decapitation Enters The Studio
Cattle Decapitation have posted the following message online last week:
“We enter Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland, CA tomorrow to start working on our fourth Metal Blade full-length! We’ll be doing the drums with the mighty Zach Ohren (ALL SHALL PERISH, DECREPIT BIRTH) and then over to Sharkbite studios to record the rest and mix with our man Billy Anderson. This is going to be devastating, we promise. The new material is over the top. The lyrics as hateful as ‘Karma.Bloody.Karma’ but much more disgusting this time around.
"We’ll be announcing the name of the album, song titles and cover art when we have completed the recording! Details on that, studio reports and fly-on-the-wall footage in the studio coming soon!”

Municipal Waste To Reunite Original Lineup
Municipal Waste have posted the following update via Myspace:
"In the Waste 'Em All years, Municipal Waste developed a reputation that they are still living up to today. It was due to the early, insane live performances that set the bar for what people expect to see at a Waste show. Wind swept circle pits, 69 stage dives, wacky costumes, and pizza shark boogie bongs still show up whether the band plans it or not. Maybe it was just the off stage antics, excessive drinking, or the tendency to eat all the food out of an unsuspecting victim's fridge that sent the message that was (and still is) very clear: Municipal Waste is gonna fuck you up!
"Now you can't rewrite history, but you can relive it on Friday, August 15th 2008 at Alley Katz in Richmond, VA. The Waste will be reuniting the Waste 'Em All lineup for one show as part of the 7th annual Best Friends Day Weekend. The lineup, which includes Brandon Ferrell on drums, Andy Harris on bass, Tony Foresta on vocals, and Ryan Waste on guitar, will be playing the Waste 'Em All album in it's entirety along with some other classic cuts.
"This show is a must see for any true fan of live music! The other acts of the night include: PAINT IT BLACK, QUADILIACHA, CAUSTIC CHRIST, BRUTAL KNIGHTS, and RELIGIOUS AS FUCK. The show starts at 7pm @ Alley Katz (10 Walnut Alley) and costs $10. Come out and support The Waste and Best Friends Day 7!"
Site Update
Metalunderground.com Gets "Hacked"
A software exploit has resulted in serious issues for Metalunderground.com late last week. The culprit was very difficult to track down, but we think we have it isolated and are now back up and running in full force with only minor data loss (a day or two of news and comments, etc). In the meantime, some links and site functions may not work, as we are rolling out sections of the site at a time.
While I'm really disappointed at the extended down time and how hard it was to troubleshoot this issue, I'm glad the data loss was minimal. It's always a learning experience and I hope to be better prepared for it next time.
Due to the nature of the attacks, I would highly recommend everyone updating their passwords on Metalunderground.com, as that info may have been compromised.
Also, if you happened to send us any emails from Thursday night through the weekend, please resend them.
Thanks for your patience. Tell your friends and fellow metalheads that Metalunderground.com is back!
