Poropetra Signs With Open Grave Records
Finnish band POROPETRA has signed on with Open Grave Records for the North American release of their debut album, "Sinihirwi."
Poropetra features members, Juha Jyrkäs (throat-singing, 12-stringed kantele, distorted kantele-effects), Markus Ylikoski (guitar, backing vocals), Leo Herranen (bass, contrabass, backing vocals), Hittavainen (Korpiklaani) (violin, jouhikko, torupill, keyboards, mandoline, flutes and pipes, mouth harp, backing vocals), Lari Hammarberg (drums, percussions, backing vocals), Elsa Pardonen (vocals), and Nancy (vocals).
Poropetra is ancient Finnish and it means the same as Elk of Hiisi (Hiiden hirvi in Finnish) from the Finnish mythology. Elk is an old totem animal of Finno-Ugrian and Siberian peoples, thus it describes so well Poropetra's unique ethnic fusion music, combining together Finno-Ugrian myths and legends, Finnic kantele- and runo-singing traditions, Tuvan throat-singing, world music, psychedelic rock, blues and heavy rock.
Poropetra was founded by Juha Jyrkäs in 2002. Kuuraparta and Hittavainen joined soon after. The first demo, Poropetra, was self-published in 2004. It represented an almost pure modern Finnish folk sound. After the demo, the band wanted to electrify the sound and bring in some more influences.
It took two years to record the new songs for "Sinihirwi." After many long recording sessions, Poropetra's debut album, "Sinihirwi" was self released in July of 2007. Now a little over a year since it's original release, "Sinihirwi" will see it's North American release this fall via Open Grave Records.
You can check out some of Poropetra's material on the band's MySpace page.

Dissimulation Completes Third Album
Lithuanian blackened thrash band DISSIMULATION has finished work at its third full-length album, which was traditionally shifted on tape in "Phoenix" studios nearby Riga, Latvia, mid April 2008. The Lithuanian sepulchral metal titans spent only eleven sleepless chaotic days there, together with sound genius Gints Lundbergs, and managed to squeeze the entire negative [anti]cultural bundle out of themselves, that has been accumulated since the latest "Prakeikimas" disk, out since 2005.
The album is obsessed with the idea of consumer culture's disdain: mankind has lost all its values, mankind is sold out as a whore, it leads itself to utter self-destruction. "Atiduokit Mirusius" literally translates to "Give back The Dead."
Ledo Takas Records will release "Atiduokit Mirusius" this coming autumn in CD format with an official worldwide release date scheduled for October 6th. The album will be distributed by the well familiar retailers in UK, Eire, Germany, Benelux, France, Italy, Canada, Scandinavia, USA and other countries.
Devious Renews Contract, Begins Writing New Album
This summer, Dutch death/thrash metal band DEVIOUS will go into writing mode in order to create their third full-length and successor to the critically acclaimed "DOMAIN" (2007) and "ACTS OF RAGE" (2003) albums. This streak of productivity will be released through DEITY DOWN RECORDS in 2009, with whom the band have renewed their contract. The band will record with the original "ACTS OF RAGE" line-up.
You can check out some of the band's prior material on their MySpace page.

Drowning Pool Frontman Recaps Ozzfest
Drowning Pool frontman Ryan McCombs has issued his own recap of this past weekend's, Ozzfest event via Facebook. You can read it below:
"Trying to write this on my phone with 1 1/2 thumbs isn't the easiest thing in the world. I catch myself speeding right along just to find out that the old nub has hit about 101 wrong letters so please look past any completely fuct up words. The real fun thing for u is that I can't spell worth a shit in the first place. For anyone that usually reads my brain droppings from time to time, the spelling thing isn't news.
"Yesterday was Ozzfest in Big D and I want to thank everyone that came to the Texas stage and tore it up with us. We had a blast. A hot god damn blast but a blast just the same. I think one of my personal highs of the show was before we even took the stage. The gentleman that announced us, I'm guessing a bit clouded, went into the presentation. As he did he started talking about Dez and Devil Driver. Didn't think much about it until I realized he was a bit confused as he started trying to get the crowd to chant "Devil Driver". I stood back stage thinking "oh shit, what the fuck." But then it happened. The crowd started chanting back to him "Drowning Pool". I just had to start laughing. Felt good to know the people out there that allow us to do what we do knew exactly who was coming up next and was there @ that moment to see us. THANK YOU!!!
"Ya'all kicked ass and continued to throughout our set. Talking to all our friends in the other bands through the night everyone was blown away by the crowd all day long. Heard it was 102 degrees out but it felt about 120. But everyone there in the crowd brought it all day long.
I got to catch Ozzy's set and as always he, Mike and Zakk were balls on. I didn't stick around to watch Metallica as my attention span is a bit shorter due in part to a clearer state of mind that I'm trying out but from the bus area they sounded their always slamming selves.
In Fayettville Arkansas tonight which is always a good time.
"Well I won't bore your asses with any more, besides my thumb and nub are tired. So in closing, thanx again to all you crazy fuckers that give us a job to do and a big god damn kudos to you completely insane peeps that tore it up @ Ozzfest.
Love
Peace
And Dime baby.
I'm out bitches
Ryan"

Warrant Checks In From The Road
WARRANT's Steven Sweet has issued the following report:
"August 1st, 2008 - Clearfield, PA
"Well, where do I start? (rhetorical question, please don't send me your answers) Sorry it's taken a few days to get this together, I've been trying to sort out all the fantastical events of the Clearfield County Fair since the "happening" occurred. Those of you lucky folks who were in attendance know what I mean!?
"The band and our entourage of sordid gents flew "non-stop" (yay!!!) into Pittsburgh (Birthplace of that beautiful freak, Andy Warhol) where we were soon whisked away by super fancy limousine (of course, but not really) into the wilds of Pennsylvania. Some of you may be asking, "weren't you afraid of all those Amish gangs that roam freely through the heartland of the state?" Yes, some of us were addled with trepidation at the prospect of being ambushed by horse and buggy, and possibly buggy whip-whipped? (the amish, though formidable foe, and excellent candle makers, are forbidden to carry guns, hence the extremely violent practice of buggy whip-whipping) YES, we were scared as HELL, but nonetheless we forged ahead to our destination... Tesla Announces New Album Release Date
Legendary rockers Tesla has set October 7th as the release date for their brand new studio album, "Forever More", which will be released via their own record label, Tesla Electric Company Recordings. The band will be airing the albums first single, "I Wanna Live" on radio stations across the globe on August 18th and will be kicking off a world tour on October 1st.
Guitarist Frank Hannon says of the writing process: “We started writing new songs for this album the first week of January, while simultaneously planning a mid-West tour of America in February and recording our Comin Atcha Live! 2008 DVD while we were on the road. Coming home in March, we hired Terry to jump back into writing and recording music with us while we edited the DVD and routed a summer tour of Europe. We’re riding a wave of energy that doesn’t come easy for a band of rookies much less a band whose been doing this for over 20 years - and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“After returning from Europe,” continues Frank, “we jumped right back into the studio to work on Forever More with Terry while setting up a tour of American festival shows in July and August, playing alongside bands such as Matchbox Twenty, the Wallflowers, Queensrÿche, KISS and Judas Priest. It’s great that we can play with any band, of any music genre, because we’ve never been pigeon-holed into a style or label of music throughout our career.”
Sons of Seasons Signs To Napalm Records
Mastermind and multi-talent Oliver Palotai signs to Napalm Records with his band SONS OF SEASONS. Oliver, who also plays guitars in Doro and keyboards in Kamelot, promises that the debut album will deliver a symphonic metal masterpiece.
Oliver Palotai comments: "We are very happy to announce that with Napalm Records, we found the right partner with which to bring our music from the cradle to the ears of metal and rock fans all around the world. Since the beginning in 2007, Sons Of Seasons turned out to be the melting pot of all our creative energies and we are impatient to finally get into the studio and go on tour. In early 2009, we will introduce the first chapter of Sons of Seasons by releasing our debut album 'Gods of Vermin'."
Velvet Revolver Still Seeking New Frontman
Billboard.com reports: Contrary to reports suggesting former Spacehog frontman Royston Langdon is in line to become the new singer of Velvet Revolver, the band is still making up its mind about who will replace Scott Weiland.
Bassist Duff McKagan tells Billboard.com that although Velvet Revolver did play with Langdon and that "he's f*cking awesome, at this point I'd have to say no" on him becoming the new singer.
"We just have to make sure it's the right guy," he says, adding that Weiland's angry departure from the band this spring has brought him closer to group members Slash, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner. "Karmically, we deserve the right guy. It's a tough thing, man. We make a pretty big noise."

Hammers Of Misfortune Completes New Album
Heralded art metal contingent HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE has completed their new album, or more like two new albums that will be presented as one package. Almost like, as the band say, a split with themselves.
With one entitled “Fields” and the other album entitled “Church Of Broken Glass,” both albums, while joined at the spine, will be distinct from each other musically, conceptually, aesthetically, and even have different artwork and logos.
What will be Hammers’ most challenging offerings yet, “Fields” and “Church Of Broken Glass” are unlike anything Hammers mastermind John Cobbett has presented before with his brainchild. What will easily present itself as the most complex, different, and unique Hammers material yet, both albums present a much more vintage sound, with the ‘70s prog-rock influence making it’s presence felt like never before, all while manifesting influences from classic rock to classic metal to theater metal and through a wide spectrum of ultra-progressive musical fervor.
The different sound and approach Cobbett took on creating the new albums was also of course because of the new members within the Hammers fold; namely new (male) vocalist/guitarist Patrick Goodwin and new (female) vocalist Jesse Quattro who bring a new voice to the Hammers sound. While Goodwin brings a more classic rock-like approach to the band than his predecessor (namely Mike Scalzi of SLOUGH FEG fame), Quattro comes in as the most prominent female Hammers vocalist yet.
Here is the tracklisting for “Church Of Broken Glass”: More...

Hydrogyn Gives Tour Update
Hydrogyn's Jeff Westlake checked in with an update for the first leg of the US tour:

"It is nice to see the great reaction here in the states to the band and it has been so good that we have already booked return dates to alot of the same venues for the future."
Jeff went on to say that the band is filming every night as well and for fans to look out for the video as well as an announcement very soon on how they will be able to view this footage on the internet. This covers everything from actual live footage to behind the scene antics and practical jokes.
Julie is also very busy as well at this time not just with the live dates but she is also doing a lot of charity work as well. Lazarus A.D. Signs With Metal Blade Records
Metal Blade Records recently announced the signing of Kenosha, WI's Lazarus A.D. Originally known simply as Lazarus, the band has been pummeling audiences with their brand of modern thrash since the spring of 2005.
In January of 2007, the band recorded "The Onslaught" with Chris Djuricic (Soil, November's Doom, Michael Angelo Batio) at Studio One. James Murphy (ex-Death, Testament) handled mastering duties and is now re-mixing the album for its worldwide release via Metal Blade Records.
The band commented on the signing:
"We are extremely stoked about being a part of the Metal Blade family. It is a great home for us, and we know together we are going to accomplish everything we have set out to do and so much more. When the record is released, I don't think we are gonna see home much, we plan to tour for pretty much the rest of our natural lives!"
Mike Faley of Metal Blade Records commented on the band and signing:
"With the growing number of young aggressive thrash bands rising up across America, we were struck down by the sheer brutality and innovative sound of Lazarus A.D. We brought James Murphy onboard to mix the new album as Metal Blade gets ready to unleash the onslaught that is Lazarus in early 2009."
