10 Years Finishing New Album
10 YEARS drummer Brian Vodinh has issued the following update:
"I can't believe I'm about to say this... but... the [new 10 YEARS] record is almost completely finished! Yeeeeeee-haaaawwwww! We are in the last few days of the mixing stage and it kind of feels surreal. We are all very, very pleased with how everything has turned out. Of coarse it was a long, tough road to create this album, but all the yelling and arguing has been well worth it!
"We had a really interesting time recording in Seattle. The vibe was kind of dark and melancholy and I personally felt kind of weird the whole time we were there. That wasn't a bad thing though, I'm at my best creatively when I'm in a completely fucked up mood. Strange, huh?
"Now that we are mixing the album the songs are really coming to life. This album has so many more little subtle nuances and textures than 'The Autumn Effect'. Also, this collection of songs is way more diverse.
"At this point we are just putting the finishing touches on the songs before we send them out to be mastered.
"On a different note, since we have been putting in some serious hours in the studio lately, we finally decided to take a day off and me and our buddy Ryan Williams (the SSL mastermind who is mixing our record) decided to take a day trip to Catalina Island. Holy crap, I strongly recommend you check this place out if you are in the L.A. area. It's like an hour boat ride from L.A. and when you get there you feel like you are in a different country or something. We decided to get up at 5:00 a.m. and get there super-early and start a day of hiking. The trail we chose was pretty brutal for the first hour or so, but the views made it well worth it. We hiked about 15 miles, at one point even reaching such a high elevation that we were literally walking through clouds! It was amazing.
"Anyway, we are in the process of getting our touring schedule straightened out and we should have news and dates for that very soon. Looks like we will be hitting the road in October. We hope you guys are ready!"
Slayer Frontman Talks About "Jihad"
YeboTV, a next generation web-based TV network, has uploaded a short video clip of SLAYER vocalist/bassist Tom Araya talking about the song "Jihad", which describes the 9/11 tragedy from a terrorist's point of view.
"We don't do anything to be controversial, we do things because it's… through an artistic point of view, I guess," Tom says. "When that idea came up, it was just a really great… Like, 'You're kidding me, right?' 'Nah.' 'Man, that is so cool!' The premise of the song and the idea of the song, to me, it was awesome. No one's done that, and why not be the first to do something like that. And you're saying something, you know what I mean? You're giving people another perspective. But that's just about it. You're telling somebody something. Whatever they do with it is up to them. I think we were able to convey the message we wanted to convey."
YeboTV will stream SLAYER's concert at the San Diego Sports Arena on Saturday, August 25 starting just before 8:00 p.m. PDT. This will be a live, real-time stream viewable to fans globally on www.YeboTV.com. In addition, fans can access the broadcast on Slayer.net, HotTop.com, and esp.com.
The San Diego concert is a stop on SLAYER's current North American co-headline tour with MARILYN MANSON and is in support of the release of SLAYER's "Christ Illusion, Special Limited Edition" CD/DVD (American Recordings) which hit stores on July 24.

Its Better To Walk To Ozzfest, Some May Think
After a series of likely circumstantial, but nevertheless gruesomely interesting events, we may be led to believe that driving to or from Ozzfest is not the best choice. It doesn't matter how much you drink, fate seems to catch up with some metalheads.
IndyStar.com reports that an Illinois man died Tuesday night while walking outside the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Indianapolis, Indiana after the Ozzfest concert.
Danne D. Buchanan, 41, of Fisher, Ill., was walking south on Boden Road just north of 156th Street about 11:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 1993 Ford F-150 truck driven by Jerry R. Cook, 50, of Oakland City, Ind.
Hamilton County Sheriff Maj. Mark Bowen said in a press release that Cook was driving south on Boden Road on his way to the amphitheater to pick up a family member at the free concert, which 18,467 people attended.
Cook stated that he did not see either Buchanan or David Wall, also of Fisher, because the men who were walking together wore dark clothing. Cook also told officers that he was blinded by the headlights from the full lane of northbound traffic on Boden Road.Cook's truck struck Buchanan causing severe head and internal injuries, Bowen said. Buchanan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bowen said neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as being a contributing factor to the accident. However, the Crash Investigation Team continues to investigate the incident.
In similar news, according to Post-Tribune, a 15-year-old Indiana girl died Friday night (August 10) in a car crash while travelling to the Ozzfest music festival in Tinley Park, Illinois.
Rachel Hunley, 15, was killed just a few blocks away from her family household. Her older sister was driving at the time.
Tiffany Hunley, 26, of Hebron struck a utility pole shortly before 6:15 p.m., while driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer in the 12300 block of Cline Avenue. Hunley told police she was starting to veer off the road and then overcorrected.
Rachel is the second of five Hunley children to die in an accident. The Hunleys' oldest child, Tina Marie Dreiling, was killed in a fire at her East Chicago apartment in September 2001.
Hatebreed, Static-X, Circus Diablo On Free Ozzfest
Artisan News Service has uploaded a three-minute video clip featuring interviews with members of Hatebreed, Static-X and Circus Diablo about this year's "free" Ozzfest. Watch the footage below.
Regarding the decision to make this year's traveling festival a "free" event, Sharon Osbourne, the fest's driving force, recently told Scripps Howard News Service, "I'm not trying to be the Mother Teresa of the music industry, because I like money more than anybody else. [But] these kids cannot afford to keep shelling out all this money, every year charging more and more. The brakes have to come on somewhere."
To that end, Osbourne approached Michael Rapino, president of giant national concert promoters Live Nation, and suggested giving the tickets away. "He said, 'We might as well — nobody's making any money here,'" Osbourne recalled. "So that's what we did: We found sponsors to come in and underwrite the running part, and we found bands who just want the stage — they just want to perform."

AILD Premeire Behind The Scenes Video Footage
AS I LAY DYING’s brand new video for the first single off their upcoming album AN OCEAN BETWEEN US, entitled “Nothing Left,” debuted on Headbanger’s Ball last weekend. Today the exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the filming of the clip will run on Myspace.com.
The bleak, futuristic video was shot in Van Nuys, California at Sound City Studios with Brian Thompson (Killswitch Engage, Angels & Airwaves) lending his directorial talents. The story, which was conceived by the band and refined as a collaboration between the band and Thompson, follows a female character through a series of events which takes place within a decaying, future landscape.
Upon speaking about the recent filming experience, guitarist Nick Hipa added, ”The concept of our new video is conceptually akin to books like "The Scarlet Letter," while visually it is influenced by the idea of post- apocalyptic dystopian societies as seen in films like "Blade Runner" and "1984." There are dudes with machine guns and gas masks, so already its one of my favorite videos we've ever done.”
You can watch the behind-the-scenes footage from the video shoot here. More...
Dillinger Escape Plan Announce Release Date
Relapse Records have confirmed a November 13th street date for THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's new album, Ire Works.
Guitarist Ben Weinman recently said:
“I think the new record is a little more focused and a little more intentional than Miss Machine,” Weinman describes Ire Works. “It’s a little more intense. It’s just a super-pissed off record. It’s an angry record. There’s a lot of diversity on it and there’s songs that are a little more melodic like on Miss Machine, but everything is in your face.”
Trans-Siberian Orchestra Announces Winter Tour
One of the biggest arena attractions in rock music, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO), will once again take to the road this holiday season for what will be its largest-ever tour, more than 90 cities coast-to-coast over a ten-week period beginning November 1st.
Established in 1996 by producer/composer/lyricist Paul O'Neill, TSO has been a true rock mega-success, both on record and the concert stage. The band's four CD releases, including the holiday-themed Christmas Eve & Other Stories (1996), The Christmas Attic (1998) and The Lost Christmas Eve (2004), have sold more than 5,000,000 units, over 900,000 in 2006 alone. TSO's 2001 DVD release, The Ghost of Christmas Eve, also achieved platinum status.
TSO's 2006 Winter Tour was its most successful to date, playing to over 1,000,000 fans at 80 concerts, generating revenues in excess of $40 million. Since its first Winter Tour in 1996, TSO has been one of the concert businesses' most successful acts, consistently rating in the Top 10 for both gross revenues and audience attendance.
Here are the tour dates for TSO's 2007 North American Winter Tour: More...
SSS To Support Killswitch Engage In Brixton
Fresh from playing a sell-out gig with US thrashers MUNICIPAL WASTE at the the London Underworld on Friday, SSS (SHORT SHARP SHOCK) are set to take their underground thrash sound straight to one of the city's largest venues.
On October 3rd the Merseyside crossover thrashers will play their largest show to date by supporting KILLSWITCH ENGAGE at London's Brixton Academy. This news comes just as a wave of excitement surrounding the thrash scene in the UK has escalated, following the release of SSS's Short Sharp Shock in June, and the upcoming release Enter The Grave from Huddersfield thrashers EVILE on August 27th.
Speaking about the upcoming gig, SSS vocalist Foxy states: "Reason we are doing this gig is when are we ever likely to step onto a massive stage like that ever again? I dont know how many thrash bands would fill a venue that big. But KSE asked for us and we said yer. Colchester is the day before as well. Eggs, sweaty socks, used undies and pigs heads will delicately flutter down on the crowd. We playing London on October 13th as well. Venue TBC.
Rememeber how SEND MORE PARAMEDICS went down when they supported OFFSPRING? They got all sorts lobbed at 'em. Did 'em no harm and went down in history for doing it. It will be the crowd that needs a blues brothers chicken net. Not us."
Deep Purple Singer Slams Classic Rock Radio
The following story is courtesy of Michael Senft from The Arizona Republic.
DEEP PURPLE visits the Maricopa County Events Center on Aug. 17, but it isn't a nostalgia tour. The group is wrapping up a two-year tour of 48 countries in support of its 2005 album Rapture Of The Deep. But American fans probably don't know that.
"You have this thing called classic rock radio over here," says singer Ian Gillan in a recent phone call. "It's been a death sentence for all sorts of older bands. They don't play anything of ours other than Smoke on the Water and Highway Star. "
Gillan even addresses the problem with a song on Rapture Of The Deep, called MTV. The song was inspired by a real-life incident in Buffalo, N.Y.
"I heard (Purple bassist) Roger Glover doing a radio interview, trying desperately to talk about a record we did in 2003 called Bananas. I was listening to it and my jaw just dropped, as this deejay ranted on about 1973. She wasn't the slightest bit interested in what he had to say, or anything that had happened in the last 30 years," he says.
Which is a pity. With three albums under its belt and poised to celebrate its 40th anniversary next year, the current lineup of Purple has been on a creative and critical revival for the past decade.
Gillan credits the band's current success to the infusion of new blood - guitar wizard Steve Morse (DIXIE DREGS) replaced longtime Purple axman Richie Blackmore in 1997, and journeyman keyboardist Don Airey joined the group in 2002, replacing the retiring Jon Lord.
"They brought enthusiasm back to the band," says Gillan of his new bandmates. "We went through some pretty dark periods where the family atmosphere wasn't good - really deep troughs. We got out of that when Richie left and Steve joined. But it took us a few years to rediscover the joy of playing again. We were going through the motions just to survive before they joined."
"Steve and Don brought joy back into the band."

Kataklysm To Enter Studio This Week
KATAKLYSM are entering the studio this week with producer and guitarist J-F Dagenais. Drummer Max Duhamel will be first laying down the drum work for the band's forthcoming new album, entitled Prevail. The recording process will last five weeks, with vocalist Maurizio Iacono scheduled to record his vocals in September.
Comments Maurizio: "The album is done and ready to go, although it was a breeze to write this album as things came so naturally, on the lyrics end, I worked the hardest I have in years making sure everything is where it should be, at times it was real difficult but the end result will speak for itself. I'm truely convinced this album will take no prisoners, as you know we don't repeat the same record twice, this album stands in a league of its own... and I'm not saying it's our best album, because only the fans have the right to say wether it is or not, all I'm saying is I listen to the songs and I wanna punch the fucking wall, that means we are on to something good."
Kataklysm has also hired the services of producer Jason Suecof (CHIMAIRA, TRIVIUM, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER) to mix the album in early January, 2008,
Prevail will also feature some guest appearances, to be announced at a later date.
The album is scheduled for a worldwide release date on May 23rd, 2008 via Nuclear Blast records
Stay tuned as the band will release a few touring annoucements very soon.
Onslaught Comment On Brutal Assault Appearance
UK thrashers ONSLAUGHT have posted this message on their MySpace page:
"Well, what can one say! What a fuckin' experience that was. This festival took place in a 17th century fortress. That in itself was unbelievable. Check it out. 8,000 absolute nut bags slamming, diving, screaming in the grounds of this unbelievable place. Doesn't get more surreal than this, guys. The back stage area was the parade ground and we took lunch in a candle lit prison cell. We played for 50 minutes, running over slightly and almost giving the stage manager a fucking heart attack but these things have to be done sometimes.
This will live for a long time in my memory as something as a one off experience...A big thank you to the Polish guys for making the huge ONSLAUGHT banner and also the guys that traveled form Australia just to see us. Also a big thanx to the Weymouth contingent - Cheers guys!!!!!
So what's next…Up From The Ground [Festival] with TESTAMENT in Germany...BRING IT ON - Anybody fancy this one?"

Kavarna's mayor Tsonko Tsonev said that between 3,000 and 5,000 people are expected to attend the concert.
"I like SEPULTURA very much and I am glad that their first concert in Bulgaria will take place namely in Kavarna," Tsonev said.

Tsonev said that he expected a very good festival. Groups from Romania and Sweden will also take part in the event.
Iron Maiden To Start World Tour In January?
According to MaidenFans.com, IRON MAIDEN drummer drummer Nicko McBrain has told the Swedish newspaper Expressen that the band's next world tour will start in January 2008, with a mention of a show at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden, at some point during the summer. However, as Nicko has been known to say a lot of things before they're officially confirmed, consider this a rumor for the time being.
As previously reported, MAIDEN is rumored to planning a tour of South America in February, with alleged concert stops to include Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia.
IRON MAIDEN is confirmed for next year's Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31 - August 2, 2008 in Wacken, Germany.
IRON MAIDEN vocalist Bruce Dickinson announced from the stage at this year's Download festival, which took place June 8-10 at Donington Park, Leicestershire, England, that the group's performance was being filmed for an upcoming DVD.
As a grand finale to their festival/stadium summer tour, IRON MAIDEN performed a special one-off show at London's Brixton Academy on June 24 in aid of The Clive Burr MS Trust fund. This was IRON MAIDEN's final U.K. appearance for at least a year, and was the last time they performed this year's special setlist of songs from their latest album "A Matter of Life and Death" and the LP "The Number of the Beast".
Down Announce Track Listing For New Album
DOWN — consisting of Philip Anselmo, Rex Brown, Pepper Keenan, Kirk Windstein and Jimmy Bower — is set to release "III - Over the Under" on September 25 through ILG/Warner Music Group.
In the summer of 2006, the band embarked on a six-week European headline tour with no opening band, no product, and strictly by word of mouth, proceeded to sell out all 21 shows. Inspired by the response, the band reconnected in New Orleans to begin work on its most ambitious record to date.
Having already tapped Warren Riker, who produced DOWN's second release, "II - A Bustle in Your Hedgerow", the band demoed some 18 songs in Nodferatu's Lair, Philip Anselmo's studio in the swamps of Folsom, LA, with engineer David "Puma" Troia. In February of 2007, the band commenced recording on their third and most committed record to date. Recorded in Los Angeles between February and July, with a Canadian tour with HEAVEN AND HELL thrown in just for good measure, 15 songs were ultimately cut for "Over the Under". The result is over 60 minutes of genre-defying music further solidifying their place at the forefront of heavy rock as only DOWN can do.
To chronicle the past five years leading up to the release of "III - Over the Under", Philip Anselmo will be placing periodic installments to be released over the course of the next month on the band's web sites leading up to the release of the record. This is Philip's personal communication to the band's loyal fan base and gives a first-hand account the tragedy, isolation, rebirth and ultimate triumph of one of the most important band's of our time. The first installment will appear on August 17 on www.down-nola.com and www.myspace.com/downnola.
"III - Over the Under" track listing:
01. 3 Suns And 1 Star
02. The Path
03. N.O.D
04. I Scream
05. On March The Saints
06. Never Try
07. Mourn
08. Beneath The Tides
09. His Majesty The Desert
10. Pillamyd

More Hellyeah Footage Surfaces From Release Party
More video footage has surfaced from HELLYEAH's CD-release party and the "You Wouldn't Know" video shoot. The party took place on April 10, 2007 at the Clubhouse, the Dallas nightclub founded by HELLYEAH drummer Vinnie Paul and his late brother, PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. The "You Wouldn't Know" clip was shot on February 25, 2007 with director Nathan Cox in the parking lot of the Clubhouse.
According to unconfirmed reports, it was during HELLYEAH's CD-release party on April 10 that the group's then-bassist Jerry Montano got drunk and violent, allegedly threatening his bandmates. One week later he was dismissed from the band and was subsequently replaced by Bob "Zilla" Kakaha, who played with the Abbott brothers in their post-PANTERA group, DAMAGEPLAN, until Dimebag's death.
HELLYEAH singer Chad Gray recently spoke to The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) about the events leading up to the band's dismissal of Montano. While Gray was not present for the incident, he told The Pulse of Radio that the group took the decision to let Montano go very seriously. "I've heard through the grapevine that obviously some things went down or whatever, and we just banded together as a group and we felt, all of us, including Jerry, I think we all felt like we needed to do what was best for HELLYEAH and we wanted to do what we thought was best for Jerry at the time," he said. "And we wish him the best and we love him, and it was for a lot of reasons and it was, believe me, there was a lot of deliberation. I mean, it took us a long time to come to that decision."
No official explanation was ever given for Montano's exit.
HELLYEAH's debut album entered the Billboard chart at No. 9 upon its release. The latest single from the disc is "Alcohaulin' Ass".
The band is currently on the road with the Family Values tour. More...

Blitzkrieg To Endorse Dean Guitars
Dean Guitars UK TA Bill Lewington Ltd has announced its endorsement affiliation with British Metal legends BLITZKRIEG. A press release follows:
Dean Guitars has been working with top artists for more than 3 decades and co-operates with the likes of MEGADETH, TRIVIUM, MICHAEL ANGELO BATIO, THE SCORPIONS, RUSTY COOLEY and many more well-known artists.
Blitzkrieg was formed in Leicester in October 1980. Their first demo, made in November that year, secured them their first recording deal with Neat Records resulting in the famous 'Blitzkrieg'/'Buried Alive' single and a track on the Lead Weight compilation album. In 1985 the band released their single, 'Your Move' on Neat/Roadrunner. Also in 1985 a fledgling Metallica covered the song 'Blitzkrieg' on their Creeping Death EP and again years later when METALLICA again covered the Blitzkrieg track on their Live Shit box set and their 1998 album Garage Inc.
The band has gone through a few lineup changes over the 27 years they have been going but band leader Brian Ross remains at the core. With the power house of current members, Ken Johnson (guitar), Guy Laverick (Guitar), Phil Brewis (Drums) and Paul Brewis (Bass) being the bands strongest line up to date.
They have been gigging extensively throughout 2005 and 2006 and on into 2007 touring with both Saxon and Doro in the UK as well as several European festivals to much critical acclaim.
Blitzkrieg have just completed work on their latest release titled Theatre Of The Damned due for release on the 10th August through their new label Armageddon Music. Co produced by Biff Byford of Saxon, they have achieved a classic mix of all you would expect from this legendary band but with a definite modern flavour. This latest release captures the essence of true British metal at its absolute best. Make sure to check out Theatre Of The Damned coming soon from Armageddon Music.
Guy Laverick uses the Dean Vendetta 4 transparent black guitar with a Floyd Rose trem.
Ken Johnson also uses a Dean Vendetta 4 as well as a Dean Razorback V Explosion 255 guitar.

Chthonic To Tour Europe With Ensiferum
Taiwanese metal icons CHTHONIC — currently impressing American crowds at Ozzfest, where they're the first-ever Asian extreme metal act to perform — have confirmed their first European tour, which will see them play alongside "heroic folk metal" warriors ENSIFERUM (Spinefarm Records). The Finnish band had a No. 1 single and a Top 10 album in its home country earlier this year and also recently cracked the Top 40 on the German album chart. Dates and venues will be announced in the coming weeks.
"We're very excited to continue taking the 'UNlimited' tour abroad," says CHTHONIC vocalist Freddy Lim. "It's always been a dream to tour internationally, and it's amazing that within a few months' time, we've been able to play the biggest metal festivals in both America and Germany and tour so extensively. Europe will never be the same after the Taiwan Typhoon strikes!"
CHTHONIC's "UNlimited" tour — named to protest how the United Nations (UN) limits Taiwan's full participation as an independent country — kicked off in Taipei earlier this summer following the international re-release of 2002's "Relentless Recurrence" and last year's "A Decade On The Throne" two-CD/DVD live set. The North American leg consists of 60 shows, including two dozen "off-fest" concerts with NILE and a handful of September dates supporting black metal legends CRADLE OF FILTH.
CHTHONIC, who also performed at the sold-out Wacken Open Air festival in Germany earlier this month, will kick off their European tour by playing alongside TWISTED SISTER, MY DYING BRIDE, THE 69 EYES, TESLA and dozens more at the Hard Rock Hell festival in Minehead, England on Nov. 9.

Moonspell Posts New "Tenebrarum Oratorium"
Portugal's Moonspell have updated their MySpace page to feature the new version of their song 'Tenebrarum Oratorium,' to be included on their upcoming Under Satan release.
Moonspell entered the studio in the first weeks of July to record Under Satan.
The recording sessions were held at Denmark's Antfarm Studios. Behind the wheel of death was Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Dark Tranquillity, Rob Halford), co-producing with the band.
This release will consist of re-recordings of the band's legendary Under The Moonspell (1994) but also going back as far as their first demo, Anno SatanÆ, and their sole track as Morbid God, 'Serpent Angel'. All the songs were re-arranged and revamped in order to underline their revered distinction as "underground classics" but now with a mature dark energy and class. The full-length record (8 songs and around 5 instrumental compositions) will be released in early October (2007) via SPV worldwide.
Tracklisting (not the final order):
01. Halla alle halla al rabka halla (Praeludium/Incantatum Solistitium)
02. Tenebrarum Oratorium (Andamento I/Erudit Compendyum)
03. Interludium/Incantatum Oequinoctum
04. Tenebrarum Oratorium (Andamento II/Erotic Compendyum)
05. Opus Diabolicum (Andamento III/Instrumental Compendyum)
06. Chorai Lusitânia! (Epilogus/Incantatam Maresia)
07. Intro
08. Goat On Fire
09. Ancient Winter Goddess
10. Wolves From The Fog
11. Outro
12. Serpent Angel
In the process is also the composition of the follow up to Memorial which will go into production before the end of the year at the Woodhouse Studios with Waldemar Sorychta.
Voivod Drummer Talks About Upcoming Reissues
Voivod drummer Michel "Away" Langevin has told Greg Prato of Billboard.com that he is keeping busy with several upcoming Voivod-related releases, including the group's final studio album, comprised of tracks left over from the last sessions with late co-founding guitarist, Denis "Piggy" D'Amour. The group will congregate in the fall to finish off the tracks.
Also forthcoming are reissues via Sanctuary Records of all of Voivod's releases for the Noise label during the 1980s. Each album will be remastered and updated with a DVD of vintage live performances. "There are quite a few treasures there — like the first U.S. show, when we opened for VEnom at the Ritz in New York," Langevin says. "There are also the demos we sold through the fan club in the '80s, a lot of rehearsals from '83 and '84 when we were writing the first two albums and sketches for the album covers."
In addition, there will be book of VOIVOD-related artwork that Langevin has assembled, with a working title of "Voivod in Art" (Troubleman Unlimited).
