Fresh from playing a sell-out gig with US thrashers MUNICIPAL WASTE at the the London Underworld on Friday, SSS (SHORT SHARP SHOCK) are set to take their underground thrash sound straight to one of the city's largest venues.
On October 3rd the Merseyside crossover thrashers will play their largest show to date by supporting KILLSWITCH ENGAGE at London's Brixton Academy. This news comes just as a wave of excitement surrounding the thrash scene in the UK has escalated, following the release of SSS's Short Sharp Shock in June, and the upcoming release Enter The Grave from Huddersfield thrashers EVILE on August 27th.
Speaking about the upcoming gig, SSS vocalist Foxy states: "Reason we are doing this gig is when are we ever likely to step onto a massive stage like that ever again? I dont know how many thrash bands would fill a venue that big. But KSE asked for us and we said yer. Colchester is the day before as well. Eggs, sweaty socks, used undies and pigs heads will delicately flutter down on the crowd. We playing London on October 13th as well. Venue TBC.
Rememeber how SEND MORE PARAMEDICS went down when they supported OFFSPRING? They got all sorts lobbed at 'em. Did 'em no harm and went down in history for doing it. It will be the crowd that needs a blues brothers chicken net. Not us."

Well I was looking up info on SSS and found this article. I do agree with Butcher that Killswitch Engage are the metal pretenders. No disrespect to them but their music is boring and as much as that guy screams and sings its emotionless. I will say that they made a big name for themselves to the hot topic teens of the world but to us older metalheads i think it doesn't cut the cake. i'm sorry but killswitch is a derivative of some metal bands. i never understood the whole mixture of vocal styles. singing choruses with screaming heavy verses and the groove and stop and gos and no soloing. for me i just want one style of vocal, aggression, fast riffs, and music that comes from the heart. i don't get that with killswitch. i do like that one song temple from the within but that was the only album i really enjoyed. that and their debut roadrunner offering. i don't know? sorry to go ranting but i just wanted to say my peace. later. and yeah real thrash is back!

Stop being such elitists, most Metal bands are also influenced by Punk, and Hardcore Punk(Slayer, Anthrax) well those young thrash kids u see now, used to be those scene kids two years ago. One day its in the other its not, but hey thats the way it is. And Kse dont claim to be a "pure" Metal band anyways so i dont get the Metal pretenders thing. Thats why there "Metalcore".

Older metalheads? Hmmm. Anyway, it's not suprising to me that someone who needs to put a label on a genre doesn't understand a mixture of vocal styles, groove stop and go's with no soloing. Phil and Dime did it with Pantera and I dare say it worked for them. When are people going to realize that we don't need a template or a label for musical styles. If it's heavy and you like it, support it. If it's heavy and you don't like it, don't support it, but don't bash it either. There are so few heavy bands left in the main stream that we need to embrace and support it in preparation of the next paradigm shift in the music industry. As long as there is an avenue for heavy music, we can all share the wealth.

To say that KsE are "metal pretenders" is foolish.
Im not saying they are the best band in the world, but I certainly wouldnt put them in the realm of "pretenders". Im not the biggest fan of the metalcore scene either,I never got into shadows fall, all that remains, etc etc
but that doesnt mean they are pretenders.
Metalcore like ALL the other subgenres (including Thrash) were a 'derivative' of metal. Metal has evolved over the last 30 odd years, some styles have lasted longer than others, thats just the the way it is.
Metalcore is on its way out, that much seems apparent, however just because its passe, doesnt mean they were/are 'pretenders'.
As far as the new thrash movement in LA, SF, and UK as much as I really love these bands (Fueled by fire, Merciless Death etc), if anyone are pretenders its them, they are pretending its 1986. the way they dress, and the lyrics, were any of these guys even born yet when the Thrash Movement was in full swing?

I do not like KSE one bit. I feel their sound is tailored to the young teens which are very impressionable and yes its true are like sheep. SSS is a cool band and there is a lot of retro thrash coming out now like Warbringer who truly know what metal was about. These KIDS were not alive during the thrash phase of 1986-1992 yet they play it up like its '86. KSE is seriously a commercial band that is following orders from a record label that is trying to profit off impressionable teens and their parents. The music has no substance or value in my opinion. I respect them but I do not agree with the music they write.

I really do not find KSE a "heavy metal" band at all. Granted they WERE an important band when this perversion of metal called "metalcore" came to light a few years ago but... i feel they are nothing more than Metal Prenteders. I do however like SSS a lot. There is a whole "retro" thrash scene that is developing in LA and Europe and its great to see the classic thrash of the late 80's to early 90's come back in 2007. This is what I consider metal. And I hope SSS gets the attention they deserve with their cross-over thrash at this gig. Maybe they can lift the brainwash off the KSE fans and come to understand what heavy metal is, not Industry Metal where its all about trends, fads, and record labels making money off sheep. And yeah Evile Rules! Check out other retro thrashers that are up and coming, its a huge scene that's gonna take metal back!
