Exivious Calling It Quits

Tymon from Exivious just issued the following announcement via Facebook about the band deciding to call it quits:

"It is with a heavy heart that we’ve decided to end Exivious. I started the band not long after I picked up the guitar and ever since, it has been a major part of my life. Exivious has always evolved with our musical tastes. From the death metal days of our early demos to the jazz-fusion inspired debut album to the post-rock inspired 2nd album, 'Liminal.'

"I started a progressive singer/songwriter band called Our Oceans with whom we released our debut album at the end of 2015. Taking on the vocal duties in this band changed everything for me; the way I see myself and what I aspire to become as a musician has completely shifted. Singing allows me to express myself in a way that I could never achieve on guitar. Which is why I decided to continue my musical endeavors with Our Oceans and focus all my energy on that band.

"Meanwhile, my band mates’ need to play progressive, jazz-fusion inspired music has faded as well. Michel (Nienhuis, guitars) has been working on a 2nd album for his post-black metal band Dodecahedcron, which is going to be released early next year. Robin (Zielhorst, bass) has started a groove metal band Onegodless - The artist formerly known as Mourn. Their debut album is to be released early next year as well and features Yuma (van Eekelen) on drums. More...

Report

Leaves' Eyes Go Viking on Austin

While there are still a couple weeks left in 2016, this will be my last road report of the year. The show was a milestone in my career as it completes ten years of concert photos and reports. I will be putting these into a new series of books. The visual aspect, energy, epic music and melody was the perfect send off for this ten-year odyssey. Thanks to Come And Take It Productions for making this night and many more nights possible. Their switch from Dirty Dog to Grizzly hall was a better choice for concert attendees. More...

Vimic Announces Lineup Change, European Tour

Heavy metal fans around Europe now have something to look forward to as Vimic prepares for the band's first-ever world tour. Founded by Joey Jordison (formerly of Slipknot), Vimic combines heavy guitar riffs with unearthly drums patterns that Jordison is known for.

When it came time to form the band, Jordison assembled a team of five extremely devoted, driven, and dedicated musicians: Kalen Chase [vocals], Jed Simon [guitar], Kyle Konkiel [bass], Matt Tarach [keyboards]. Vimic is also excited to welcome new guitarist Steve Marshall to the band.

Vimic's full-length debut "Open Your Omen: - arriving early 2017 - signals the biggest triumph of Jordison's illustrious career as it came to life in the face of his most trying time. Jordison was diagnosed with the often permanent neurological affliction Acute Transverse Myelitis. He spent three months in the hospital during 2012 and underwent intensive physical rehabilitation and training. Not only did he achieve a full recovery, but he reached a new level of proficiency behind the drums.

"The riffs, lyrics, and drums of 'Open Your Omen' will tell you a lot," Jordison admits. "I did this record when I was coming out of the Acute Transverse Myelitis condition. It's literally what saved me and helped me get back to where I'm healthier than ever. These guys and this album pushed me to not only relearn how to walk, but how to play the drums again. 'Open Your Omen' is the rebirth of the rest of my life." More...

Tengger Cavalry Posts New Video

Global Music Award-winning nomadic Mongolian folk metal group Tengger Cavalry just released a brand new EP, entitled "kAAn." Today, the band showcases the EP's socially-conscious themes by revealing a new music video for the title track. The following press release was issued about this video:

"The clip puts oppression of nomadic cultures under the spotlight. Much like the United State's own Native American community, who are suffering from governmental and corporate oppression (i.e. Standing Rock), nomadic Mongolians have found their culture threatened by surrounding forces for generations. As brothers in nomadic culture, Tengger Cavalry penned 'kAAn' as a beacon of support."

Front man Ganganbaigal comments, "This century is the century of machine and industry. Nomadic culture is falling apart everywhere around the world. Grasslands and plains are being exploited and it is becoming more acceptable to step into the sacred land of others and get what we need in the moment. We all saw what happened at Standing Rock.

"As distantly related brothers of Native Americans (proven genetically), Tengger Cavalry, an international alliance of Mongols, Central Asians and Northern Asians, felt the need to give our public support to them. This video is about the brotherhood of nomadic people. It doesn't matter what ethnicity you are - if you have a nomadic heart and you love nature and sky, you are one of us, and we will support you!" Sanctuary Announces "Inception" Details

Century Media Records and U.S. metal act Sanctuary has set February 24th, 2017 as the release date of "Inception," the official prequel to 1988's classic debut "Refuge Denied."

"Inception" contains presumed lost 1986 studio recordings, which guitarist Lenny Rutledge discovered recently and were magically restored, remixed and remastered by Zeuss (Queensrÿche, Hatebreed).

Guitarist Lenny Rutledge comments: "I found the masters in my barn. The second floor of the barn is on top of our current recording studio and is very rough and open to the elements. The ground level is where we recorded the bulk of 'The Year The Sun Died'. We found the masters in an unknown box in the barn, full of water and just wasting away."

Zeuss explains further how the "Inception" album was realized: "I got a call one day and Lenny said that he had discovered these tapes and had them transferred to digital. I was in the area and stopped over to check it out. The recordings were still in decent shape. We agreed that we wanted it to sound as good as possible without taking away from the original vibe and vision of what the band had back then. After a year of mixing on and off we were able to resurrect these original demos. I hope everyone enjoys these recordings as much as I did working on them especially being a huge fan myself." Gojira Coming To Nail The Mix

Nail The Mix returns in December for Gojira's sledgehammer heavy classic "Toxic Garbage Island" with The Way Of All Flesh producer Logan Mader at the helm. Mader and NTM are handing the reins over to Nail The Mix subscribers to re-mix the entire track yourself.

When you hear a Gojira song, there's no questioning who's distinct sound is blasting through the speakers. With that said, are you ready to prove you've got the chops to make this mix your own?

Nail The Mix's Eyal Levi states,"When 'The Way Of All Flesh' by Gojira came out, it was one of those WTF moments in terms of power, energy, aggression, punch and power in a Metal mix. I know that for myself and many of my peers, tracks off that album became some of our go-to reference mixes for what metal should sound like, to this day! To actually have Logan Mader walking us through how he mixed it, along with getting to work with the actual tracks by one of my favorite Metal bands of all time is not only a professional milestone for Nail The Mix, but a personal one as a fan of music."
