Neurosis Issues 2016 Recap

Following a string of shows supporting eleventh studio album, "Fires Within Fires," Neurosis has now posted this 2016 recap message:

"Ending the year as we began the year. Last December at this time we were spending our 30th anniversary recording and mixing Fires Within Fires. 365 days later we are together in a small cedar cabin in North Idaho writing riffs and seeing where the sound gods take us after such a monumental year.

"Our year in brief summary: 3 amazing 30th anniversary shows in SF with heroes and brothers alike; 2 more at the unrivaled Roadburn festival; the release of the 'Strength and Vision' boxset of our entire catalog; a European tour including our first time in Portugal; the release of our 11th album, 'Fires Within Fires;' the Decibel Neurosis Issue and album of the year in Terrorizer and Cvlt Nation; a short trip to London to play with teenage heroes.

"Great shows up and down the West Coast and now this, back where it all happens, sitting in a room together as brothers, instruments in hand, waiting to see where this journey takes us next. Eternal gratitude as always to our families. #sonicgeometry #neurosis30." More...

Twisted Wrath Issues Final Year End Message

After announcing plans to call it quits this year, Irish metal band Twisted Wrath has now issued this final year-end message to fans:

"So, 2016 is coming to an end, and this year, Twisted Wrath came to an end - 9 years after that first jam between Colin and I that started the whole thing... 6 years after David joined the band, upping the whole thing several notches.

"I'm very proud of what the band achieved in it's many forms over the years. We didn't set the world on fire, or anything like that, but we got travel around the country, meeting great people, promoters, bands, etc.

"We got to make music, something that I would never have thought possible that first time I picked up a guitar and tried (failed) to play Metallica's 'For Whom The Bell Tolls.' We made 4-5 EPs - the latter 3 people know the most. It was amazing to see that so many people were happy to part with their hard-earned cash to buy the music we had put so much effort into.

"We got support some of our favourite bands/heroes. Anthrax in The Academy in 2014 felt like a real achievement... one of those 'if my 10 yr old self could see me now' moments. Schenker, UFO, Exodus - such cool memories. Thanks for any and all support over the years, no matter how small." More...

The Project Hate Finishes New Album

Updates have been coming fast and furious this week from The Project Hate MCMXCIX about a new album, with work on that impending release now wrapping up. Today the band comments:

"And the album is 99% completed, ladies and gents of Hate! The lovable bastard known as Mr. D over at Unisound Studios handed over the sixth and final track, 'Treacherous,' a while ago - and again I'm beyond grateful for the incredible work he's done for me. I can seriously never fucken ever thank him enough, but thank you, Dan Swanö. It's been a majestic ride to make this piece come to life, to put it mildly.

"'Of Chaos And Carnal Pleasures' has exceeded all of my expectations, and I have known for quite some time that it would be absolutely spectacular to begin with. The work that everyone involved provided for me is the best shit I've ever heard. I speak greatly of 'OCACP,' and I do so for the simple reason it truly is something special that has been created.

"2 years, more or less on a daily basis ranging from 5 minutes to 12 hours a day, is what I have been spending on perfecting my vision for this pending beast. That's a long fucking time and with the result at hand - I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

"A certain amount of borderline insanity goes into creating the TPH entity of today, that's for sure. All the time I put into my music takes away from something else of course... Add to that a regular day job and I can never fully thank my beloved wife Kathrin for the support I get from her when I do this, coz she's the one who barely get to see me when I'm locked inside The Dungeon working on my music. 2016 Metal Newcomers Explored, Pt. V

Whether you agreed with our 2016 Staff Awards or not, one of the things we take great pride in at MetalUnderground.com is being able to unearth some new acts (or acts just releasing a full length album in the current year) that you should take notice of.

We pour over literally thousands of new albums between all of the staff and there is a reason: the quest for great metal. I'm sure I do not stand alone in the belief that once you lose the desire to seek out new bands, you've given up on the scene. Metal should be perpetual and though there are so many acts out there trying to get attention, this should not dissuade you from the hunt. One of the biggest problems in metal fandom is falling into the lazy trap of saying "no good music is made these days" or "nothing can ever be better than the music of the 80's, or 70's, or 90's." The hunt for great music is the driving force for passion for music and it is imperative as fans that we continue to do it.

So for this final installment of Newcomers 2016, I wanted to draw attention some bands not nominated, but would fall in line as "6-10" on my list for 2016. Hopefully, you will find something you like. More...
