Grim Ordeal Launches Crowd Funding Campaign

Grim Ordeal just launched a crowd funding campaign through IndieGogo here and the band issued this statement about raising funds to record a new album:

"This is it folks! We are Grim Ordeal and we provide you with a 'straight in your face!' mix of Thrash metal, groove metal, and some more contemporary and even progressive elements. Featuring technical guitar work, gruff vocals and tempo fluctuations, Grim Ordeal has created a very unique yet recognizable sound.

"We are based in the Dutch city of Deventer and have been active for a decade now. We have released a 3 song demo back in 2011 (available to stream on Spotify) and a very well received first full release back in 2014 called 'A Tragedy Unfolds.'

"We are asking you to contribute to our new album release so we can do it right. Our new material is more intricate and layered and needs expert sound engineering. We bring you songs you'll be listening to for decades to come and we're sure we have what it takes right here, ready to be recorded and unleashed upon the world! More...

The Ruins Of Beverast Releasing New EP

Following the "Blood Vaults - The Blazing Gospel of Heinrich Kramer" album from 2013, The Ruins Of Bevarast now has a new mini-album arriving shortly. The band comments:

"A new 2-track, 12" EP, entitled 'Takitum Tootem!,' is being released on December 19th via Ván Records. The EP will feature the initial part of a bipartite meditation and celebration in euphoria for manhood's loss of the crown of creation. This meditation will be completed by the 2nd and final part on the forthcoming album later this year.

"The B-side of the EP is entitled 'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun,' and thus is an obvious obeisance to the godfathers of this EP's central idea. The 'Takitum Tootem!' vinyl is an experimental orgy of spiritual psychedelia beyond the mood and concept of the following album - thus it stands alone as its harbinger." More...

Helion Prime Parts With Vocalist

Helion Prime released a self-titled album earlier this year, and now that I'm looking at it again, it probably should have made our list of the best cover art from 2016. As the year comes to an end, Helion Prime has an important announcement to make as the band parts ways with vocalist Heather Michele. This message was posted online via the group's Facebook page:

"The rumors that have been circulating for awhile are true. Heather has decided to part ways with the band and continue on a different path. We wish Heather the best in everything she does but the story of Helion Prime does not end here. Stayed tuned for more announcements to follow and a lot of great things to look forward to in 2017!

"We know this may come as a shock and disappointment to some but we respect her decision and wish her the best. Helion Prime will continue on and keep the momentum we have going strong. We are very excited with what we've accomplished so far and look forward to seeing what the future brings." More...

Vitja Posts "Scum" Lyric Video

Get a first taste from Vitja's upcoming album "Digital Love," which is set for a release on Century Media Records/People Like You Records this coming March 3rd, 2017, by checking out a lyric video for the song "Scum" below.

"Digital Love" was recorded over the course of a year at Sureshot Studios by Daniel Keller and Andreas Vieten and mixed/mastered by Aljoscha Sieg at Pitchback Studios. "Scum" is the first brand new song taken from "Digital Love" and features Sushi and Kevin from Eskimo Callboy as guest vocalists.

"We wrote the songs differently from the past," drummer Daniel Pampuch offers. "Musically and emotionally, we focused on different things than we used to focus on during a writing process. We don't say that the songs are better, but they definitely sound mature. This time we wrote more song-oriented. The whole album is easier to listen to compared to older Vitja albums. So, the listener can pull out more for themselves. The idea was that each song stands on its own, but at the same time we wanted to design an album that works as a unity. For example, with 'Scum' we tried to grab metal by the balls. We wanted to create a hard song with a traditional but fresh and groovy attitude." More...

Vanishing Point Re-Issuing "Tangled In Dream"

"Tangled In Dream," the 2000 released album by Australian melodic progressive metal band Vanishing Point, will be re-issued as a 2-CD special edition on January 27th, 2017 via AFM Records.

After being out of print and not available digitally, this new edition finally allows fans to re-discover one of the early 2000's most impressive releases in the genre. Disc 1 holds the regular album while CD II includes 10 bonus tracks (9 of these available on CD format outside of Japan for the first time ever).

Guitarist Chris Porcianko comments: "This album has a special place in the hearts of many Vanishing Point fans, we didn’t know until the last few years the impact it made on old and new VP fans so with the good folk at AFM we decided to get this old chestnut out again. It wasn't available regularly for years, so we are very happy to not only re-release it, but also to add a bonus CD with 10 rare and unreleased tracks.

"Among these is 'Samsara II,' a brand new recording, which is a remake of 'Samsara,' with an updated arrangement and a more symphonic kind of touch to it which is reflective on how VP sounds these days. The re-issue of 'Tangled In Dream' only marks the beginning of an exciting year 2017 for Vanishing Point, as we have completed the writing for our upcoming new studio album which will see the light of day in the second half of 2017.

"We are really looking forward to getting the new music out to you all in 2017 , more motivated than ever, excited to have 'Tangled In Dream' re-released and we hope that this finally paves a way for some potential touring opportunities in the near future.” More...

Obscura Posts Playthrough Video

The German technical/progressive death metal luminaries from Obscura just shared a new playthrough video.

The clip, available below, features fretless bass virtuoso Linus Klausenitzer shredding his way through the title-track taken from the band’s latest release "Akroasis" (reviewed here).

“When I thought to record another playthrough video, I decided for the title track of our new album Akroasis,” Said Linus Klausenitzer. “As it is a very atmospheric song, the bass lines are probably the easiest one to play on the whole album. This way I hope to motivate people to try playing the song themselves and to pay more attention to phrasing on bass. In this video I play my fretless Ibanez BZB7 that people ask me about very often. I recorded 90% of the album with this bass.”

2. Coincidence of Opposites
3. Bereavement of Flesh

Warbringer Unveils New Album

On March 31st, Warbringer will deliver a monumental 5th record entitled "Woe to the Vanquished." Singer John Kevill describes the new album:

"For the music on this record we re-focused ourselves after a lot of the experiments on Empires Collapse, and decided we wanted to make a record that is start-to-finish more merciless, ruthless, and cruel, but also maintains some of the more melodic and progressive sense. What we ended up with is a record that has a lot of traits of classic thrash but also a lot of extreme metal, and a rather unique version of that blend. It's overall faster and meaner than anything else we've put out, but also has our biggest and most ambitious song, the 11-minute 'When the Guns Fell Silent' to close the record."

The album was produced and mixed by Mike Plottnikoff (Fear Factory, In Flames), mastered by Howie Weinberg (Slayer, Pantera) with cover art by the esteemed Andreas Marschall (Sodom, Blind Guardian, Obituary).

Kevill explains the stunning album artwork by saying: "It is directly based on a photograph from the end of the First World War--a grim monument, a pyramid of 12,000 German spiked helmets, right in the middle of New York City. What struck me about the image is firstly how morbid it seems to be celebrating 12,000 dead men and calling it victory." More...

Anna Murphy Releases Goodbye To Gravity Tribute

Anna Murphy (ex-Eluveitie) has recorded a song for new Goodbye To Gravity tribute album "Back to Life."

"Through It All" is Murphy's new single off the album that contains Goodbye to Gravity songs recorded by various international bands. This is a charitable project as all the profits will be donated to the GTG members and families and to the victims from the Colectiv Club tragedy from Bucharest, Romania last year.

During the release show for Goodbye To Gravity's "Mantras of War" album, an unexpected fire from the pyrotechnics caused 64 total deaths (including 4 out of the 5 GTG members) and hundreds of injuries.

This new song was recorded, mixed and produced by Anna Murphy at Soundfarm Studios, mastered by Luculescu Alin Gabriel and can be heard below. Anna comments:

“"Through It All" is a fantastic song, I enjoyed making a cover version of it. The melodies and harmonies fit my style very well and I'm glad I could be a part of this. I can't find a lot of words for what happened at the Colectiv club. When I read about it I had just recently been on a tour where we played on the exact same stage, I still remember exactly how everything looked and how the show went. My thoughts go out to all the victims, recovering survivors and their friends and family. I hope all of you find inner peace and strength." More...

Space Witch Signs With HeviSike Records

HeviSike Records is pleased to announce the impending release "Arcanum" by British instrumental doom band Space Witch. The album is set to be released on digital, CD and vinyl formats in the Spring of 2017.

Space Witch is a psychedelic stoner/doom band that draws on influences from 70's prog and psychedelia. The band formed in Stoke-on-Trent, England, UK in 2007 and consists of Darren Lee Rowlands (Guitars and founder member), Daniel Mansfield (drums), Peter Callaghan (Vocals and Electronics) and Tomas Cairn (Bass)

In 2008, the band issued the first demo, a 2 track self-titled affair and quickly followed it up with a stream of gigs in the UK underground. The demo was followed up in 2011 with "Resurrection" a 7 track demo which included three live recordings. In 2013, the band released the debut EP "The Alchemy Paradox" - a three track mini album which was released by defunct Bristol based label Cosmic Tomb.

In 2014, the band released a split with the UK Doom band Trollkraftt called "Wytchkraft" and the self-titled first full length (double album) released as a joint venture with labels HeviSike Records, Fear Me Music and Orchestrated Dystopia Records. To follow the album up, the band toured the UK as well as playing Norway and headlining a festival in Edinburgh which featured on a underground documentary about the Edinburgh scene. Since that time, Space Witch has supported bands such as Conan and Mars Red Sky before taking time to write the sophomore full length "Arcanum."

More info on the new album is expected shortly. More...

Cellador Signs to Scarlet Records, New Album Soon

Rip out the cables, tear out the cords, destroy your laptops, and smash your smartphones. Denver's Cellador returns with a vengeance, exploding onto the world circuits with its massively anticipated album "Off The Grid"! The band signed on with Scarlet Records for the impending release.

"Off The Grid" was mixed and mastered by Peter Rutcho at Damage Studios (Havok, Revocation, Vomitron, Armory) in Southbridge, MA with artwork created by Colin Marks at Rain Song Design. The album will see the light of the day on March 10, 2017 in North America (February 22, 2017 in Europe).

Meticulously crafted at the helm of founding member, songwriter, and producer Chris Petersen, the long awaited follow up to the critically acclaimed "Enter Deception" is finally here, setting the bar even higher and faster on its trademark brand of steroid injected, high intensity power metal music.

An allegory to the band’s free spirited nature, "Off The Grid" musically conceptualizes a self-empowered approach to living, including tearing yourself free from the hive-mindedness of an increasingly collective thinking technological society, and paying tribute to the often neglected original personality and identity we retain within ourselves.
