Wulfhook Parts With Vocalist

Wulfhook just issued the following announcement online about parting ways with vocalist Jeff Schlinz:

"Happy new year everyone. We've been quiet for a minute and unfortunately our first news of 2017 will be a bummer. Jeff Schlinz has decided to part ways with Wulfhook. We will not go into detail as to why. If he'd like to address it he can but please respect his privacy otherwise. We wish him the absolute best with his future endevours and pursuits beyond the band. He will always be our brother and he will be missed.

"That being said, we are looking for a new singer. Anyone interested in trying out can message the band or any of the members directly. We absolutely do not expect anyone to sound like a Jeff Schlinz clone, he was a freak of nature vocally (we are very aware). The best thing you can do is be yourself, bring your own voice and attitude to the table.

"We are looking for someone who is motivated and hard working. We have a lot of plans toward the future and you'll be hearing much more from us in the weeks and months to come. In the meantime here is the last recording we did with Sling and the only recorded material currently featuring Mike and Chris. We thank you all for your continued support of Wulfhook!" More...

Unearthing The Underground: Kicking Off 2017

It's a whole new year metal fans, and as the first Monday in a wide open 2017 standing before us full of metallic possibilities, we've officially arrived at the year's inaugural edition of Unearthing The Metal Underground!

In week's past we've covered modern prog rock groups and much more extreme metal bands alike. Today we're going to cover three completely different sub-genres in our underground picks, from post-rock to black metal to melodic death.

A Province Of Thay

This unlikely group hailing from Seattle caught my attention strongly when we had the opportunity to premiere the "Atonement" EP in October of 2016.

The opening title track immediately grabbed me and had me spinning the release multiple times to experience more of this shoegazy post-rock just absolutely dripping with atmosphere and emotion but still very much on the metal side (check out our full review here).

I sort of love the genre description A Province Of Thay uses on Facebook: "gloomy doom, post rock, post metal, prog, nerds." That pretty well sums it up. Take a listen to "Atonement" below.

Praecognitvm Releasing Cassette Tape

Iron Bonehead Productions just set February 10th as the international release date for the debut demo from Praecognitvm, titled "Inalienable Catharsis," on cassette tape.

Self-released digitally last year, "Inalienable Catharsis" so impressed Iron Bonehead with its stout 'n' surging nightsky majesty that the label simply had to release it worldwide on physical tape format.

Although Praecognitvm hails from the violent black/death hotbed of Chile, theirs is a sound rooted in classic black metal mysticism. The track listing is as follows:

1. Forest of Shattered Souls
2. Path to Oblivion
3. Reminiscence
4. Ashes and Blood More...

The Last Remark Announces Final Show

Philadelphia-based metal band The Last Remark just issued this announcement about calling it quits and lining up a last live performance:

"Hey guys this Wednesday is our final show. Not our final show until next year or this summer, our final show. This is it.

"After being a band for six years, we've done a lot more than any of us thought was possible. We've toured the country, met and played with some of our heroes, sold out some local venues, and made some incredible friends.

"There is no 'beef' or any bad blood, we're all still brothers and best friends. It's just time. When we all went away to different colleges we knew it would be hard to stay active and we were right. Bryan's working with his new band in Texas, Boys Club, and finishing up school this semester. More...

Xtreem Music is proud to announce the creation of a division devoted exclusively to heavy metal called Fighter Records. The label comments:

Pryapisme Releasing New Album

The French cat-obssed Pryapisme is back with new album "Diabolicus Felinae Pandemonium," due out February 3rd via Apathia Records.

"Diabolicus Felinae Pandemonium" features some noticeable guests, including Adrien Daguzon (Zibeline) playing saxophone, Mathieu Halberstadht (Please Lose Battle) on the contrabass, and some real cats on backing vocals.

The album tells us the advent of the Era of the Cat, the one which will replace mankind. After the arrival of the lol-cats all over internet, which constitutes the last conspiracy, well after the one of Ancient Egypt where the cats were already ruling the highest spheres of power, the diabolical felines are now preparing the birth of Satan’s cat, the Chosen One which will tame humanity and in the end, conquer the whole galaxy with the help of its pentagram of cat food. Goatmoon Releasing "Stella Polaris"

Werewolf Records, freshly in conspiracy with Hells Headbangers, has set February 24th as the international release date for infamous NSBM group Goatmoon's fifth album, "Stella Polaris." Werwolf Records comments:

"In many ways approximating its vibrant cover art, 'Stella Polaris' is a mysteriously alluring blast of cosmic, snow-capped majesty. Here, Goatmoon consolidates all its considerable strengths while setting forth on new, untrodden paths across the album's nine tracks.

"Verily, 'Stella Polaris' is distinctly Finnish in its poignant purity and staunch traditionalism - this is BLACK METAL, proudly, with no use for nor tolerance of muddling agents - but with its increasingly organ-led attack, BlackGoat Gravedesecrator and a new, full lineup weave a spell that explodes with both a subtle dynamism and an anthemic quality that's thoroughly addicting."

1. Intro
2. Stella Polaris
3. Kansojen Hävittäjä
4. Wolf Night
5. Sonderkommando Nord

In addition to serving a variety of custom blends of Ellefson Coffee Co. brands, including Roast In Peace, She Wolf, Kenya Thrash, and Urban Legend, the shop will serve as a retail outlet for Ellefson Coffee products and memorabilia as well as music from EMP Label Group.
