Pit Stories: Flying Bottles

Tuesday's Pit Story time has come around again!

Gather round for a new tale from the pit, this time from vocalist Chase Thibodeau of Vancouver thrash metal band Terrifier.

Chase recalls a particularly drunk 'n rowdy Canadian pit at the Cobalt, telling the story like this:

I remember the first time we came to Vancouver to play at this old classic dingy bar called the Cobalt. It was the main local venue for many years. It was located in a rough part of town so it was a good venue for metal. There we're fights breaking out in the pit constantly. When we first got up to play we had a few bottles and glasses fly on stage but we remained focused on delivering the goods.

I remember getting soaked in vodka and thinking man this crowd is wild. I looked down and saw this chick up front get hit so hard her glass flew out of her hand. The whole time I thought they we're throwing bottles at us until I realized they we're givener that hard lol I'll never forget that.

Terrifier recently signed to Test Your Metal Records and will be releasing second album "Weapons of Thrash Destruction" on January 20th, 2017. The nine-track mosher follows 2013 EP "Metal or Death" and 2012 full-length release "Destroyers of the Faith." More...

Darkest Hour Reveals Album Details

D.C. metalcore group Darkest Hour will release ninth full-length album, "Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora," on March 10th via Southern Lord Recordings.

The 12-song album was part of a crowd funding campaign launched earlier this year, with the ultimate tally netting the band well over 100% of the initial goal. The band chose producer Kurt Ballou (High on Fire, Nails, Converge) for “his obvious genius” (as guitar player Mike Schleibaum said) and recorded the release at Ballou’s Godcity Studio.

Artist Shaun Beaudry was commissioned to create a custom painting, giving the album a unique visual identity.

“Working at Godcity was the perfect vibe for this record and Kurt was everything we could have asked for in a producer,” said Schleibaum. “The passion and experience he brought to the whole album really shows.” More...

Bassist Eero Sipilä commented: "Five weeks, 33 shows - that equals about one million cans of beer and two million guitar solos. Hell, this will be one merciless tour! There's a lot of familiar cities and also many places we've never been before - all will get their equal share of the pain! Looking forward to bumping fists with all our friends along the road as well as making a bunch of new ones. Everyone's invited to this party! Majesty are old touring mates of ours, so it's great having them on board to bring in some well needed German sex appeal. Bring metal to the stadiums!"

Majesty vocalist Tarek added: "We're proud to be able to join our friends in Battle Beast as special guest on their 'Bringer Of Pain' European tour. We will play a 60-minute set to fittingly celebrate our new album 'Rebels.' This tour also gives us a chance to play in countries we never visited before. Trent Reznor Teases NIN Album By End Of Year

It's been three years since the release of "Hesitation Marks," without much in the way of specific info coming from Nine Inch Nails about when (and an in what form) a follow-up would arrive.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Trent Reznor has teased that a new Nine Inch Nails album may still be coming by the end of the month... maybe.

This excerpt from the article is particularly relevant:

A year ago this week, Trent Reznor tweeted, "New NIN coming in 2016. Other stuff, too." When reminded of this tweet now, though, he's coy. "Those words did come out of my mouth, didn't they?" he says bluntly. Then he feigns surprise. "Oh, yeah, it's December, isn't it?" He pauses. "Just wait and see what happens."

What do you think? Is Reznor being a big tease or will a surprise NIN album drop by December 31st, 2016? If you need new music, Reznor and Atticus Ross provided the score for "Patriots Day," a movie about the Boston marathon bombing that opens on Christmas Day. More...

Static Tension Premieres "Back Inside" Video

Pulling from '90s grunge and prog metal influences, Ohio outfit Static Tension is gearing up to release the "Out Of Reach" EP via Buried By Sky Records next month.

Today we're helping to herald that release with an exclusive premiere of a lyric video for "Back Inside" - check it out below!

Singer Rob Rom commented: "Walking away from someone or something isn't always easy, but sometimes you must lock the door and throw away the key, that is the premise of 'Back Inside', being let down so many times that you would rather just go without, a little piece of poetry with a rough edge."

The band's self-described "progressive grunge" takes the sound of Alice in Chains and blends it with the more progressive leanings of bands like Tool and Kings X.

You may have noticed Static Tension's name on our site before, as the band gave an epic tale of a steaming crowd at a Rammstein concert for our weekly Pit Stories column.

The "Out of Reach" EP is coming January 6th, 2017 and will feature the following track listing:

1. PSM
2. Obstacle Of Doubt
