Pit Stories: Invasion Of The Him-Hers
Ready for yet another bout of Pit Story madness my fellow metal heads?
This week we've got a truly bizarre one that leaves the pit behind and focuses on band antics at the hotel room after the show, in which U.S. group Rapheumets Well gets some serious culture shock and a crash course in trans pride.
In typical metal fashion, things get taken perhaps a smidge too far. The symphonic extreme metal outfit's drummer Joshua Ward tells the tale like this:
So, members of Rapheumets Well were accompanying the band Behind The Veil to a show in the Ashville area of North Carolina. Now you got to picture that we are all very southern males with little to no exposure to the pride parades that Ashville is known for. It is to note, we are far from prejudice and we accept anyone for their sexual preferences being gay or straight, or what-ever percentage of gay to strait ratio can exist. You can make love to a duck for all we care. But you can say, we we just not ready for the “He-her” or the “Sheman,” Man in girl, whatever you can use to define the characters in our midnight saga.
So we are hanging off the balcony at a hotel and from the distance, our honkey eyes believe we are seeing women, flaunting about, twirling their batons, giggling and frolicking about, and for some reason that we have not discovered in our life’s journey yet…. other people on leashes. I’m sure it was our testosterone and possible lead poisoning from drinking from mountain spring water that lead us to the conclusion that these were women of mating age, doing things that seem appropriate for the other gender to want to mate …upon. Well the guitarist is yelling from the balcony “come on up girls” while one of two of us is considering the entertaining the question “are these she-men on leashes” as reality TV usually instills hints to these questions. But, what the hell. There had to be 20 plus people.
As they began to get closer, some of us who were NOT drinking began to contemplate back to high-school health class, “hmm, adams apple also known as the thyroid cartilage = the male gender” but the majority of us must have failed that class. From the pits of the stair well behold, in front us stood a 6 foot three, broad jawed, two hundred and fifty pound bench-pressing loaf of a man. Though in our defense, he was wearing a mini skirt over some leggings, a blond wig, and was accompanied by a man wielding a leash who also wore clothing which possessed ornaments known as “Bedazzled” and glitter.
If I had more time, I would explain to you how we used this awkward scenario to our benefit. Friends, who passed out first, became celebrities or victims to our cameras. We engaged in conversation which would reveal the craziest sexual things we have ever heard. I did not even know you can fit a lava lamp in some of the bodies cavities as expressed by the Him-Her. It was southern cultural anthropology at its finest. Unfortunately, some of them were chased off with chairs due to a un-diagnosed case of transphobia. But it was none the less, educational, AND KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!! …I guess.
Rapheumets Well's upcoming album "The Exile" is due out March 18th, 2016 through Test Your Metal Records. Check out a lyric video below for "Resurrecting The Blood God," and you can also hear new track "Witch Of Dark Spire" at this location. More...

Mos Generator Finishes New Album
The Washington riff rockers from Mos Generator have just finished mastering their brand new album, "Abyssinia," which is slated for release in July via Listenable Records.
Mos Generator main man Tony Reed comments: "'Abyssinia' is the continuation of an open relationship with many musical styles. This kind of exploration has always been a part of my writing but now I'm letting the flood gates open and I'm welcoming all of my musical influences to flow through the songs.
"'Strangest Times' and 'Red Canyons' are very typical Mos Generator style heavy rock songs but tunes like 'Outlander,' which takes a lot from the soundtrack era Pink Floyd, or 'Catspaw,' which sounds like something I would have written at age twenty under the influence of Husker Du and Voivod, move the band into a whole new area that I'm very excited to be moving towards."

Sleep Of Monsters Posts New Lyric Video
Today, Sleep of Monsters premieres a lyric video for "Golden Bough." The track hails from the band's second album, "Sleep of Monsters II: Poison Garden," set for international release on June 3rd via Svart Records.
Recorded in an old hilltop villa in Álora, Spain, "Sleep of Monsters II: Poison Garden" sees this unique Finnish band venture into even richer, more dramatic and hauntingly beautiful soundscapes, complete with strings and horns… and hooves. Think of Lee Hazlewood getting drunk with the Abba girls in a metal bar, slurring some of the most spine-chilling (mostly) true tales of human tragedy and the occult ever heard in rock 'n' roll, and you’ll arrive at the moss-covered gates of "Poison Garden." The new album's track listing is as follows:
1. Poison King

4. Babes in the Abyss
5. Beyond the Fields We Know

Entrails Reveals New Lineup
After five successful years filled with four albums, some demos and splits, plus shows and festivals around Europe, Entrails vocalist/bassist Jocke Svensson and drummer Adde Mitroulis have announced their departure from the band, with their last performance being at Netherlands Deathfest last week.
Guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist comments: "It has been a pleasure having those two guys in the band for all those years. Without them Entrails wouldn't have made the albums and shows that happened in the past. Unfortunately their time just wasn't enough anymore to give Entrails the time and focus that I wanted for doing even more shows and more intense work with the band. It is not easy to combine several other bands plus families when more time is needed to push Entrails even harder. And therefore the guys decided to leave in a friendly matter and what's best for the band Entrails. We wish them all the best of luck in their other projects."
Martin "Fjalar" Mikaelsson is the new man behind the drums; known from bands such as Istapp, Nivlhel and Unchained. Tommy Carlsson (Istapp, Nivlhel and Visceral Bleeding) will take over vocals and bass.
Martin comments: "I'm really looking forward to bringing death upon earth with Entrails as the new torturer of heads!" More...

Symbolik Premieres "Coalescing The Void" Demo
California's melodic / blackened death metal metal maniacs from Symbolik are currently working on an upcoming full-length release due out later this year, but in the mean time the group has decided to give an early taste of what's to come.
We're immensely proud to be giving an advance look into the coming brutality with an exclusive premiere of the "Coalescing The Void" demo - listen in below!
The final version of "Coalescing the Void" will be on the band's as-yet-untitled debut full length album. The guys decided to follow in the footsteps of their more established Northern California/Bay Area peers in Machine Head by going back to the old school Bay Area thrash approach of releasing a demo track before an official album release.
Lead guitarist, Allen Burton comments: "‘Coalescing the Void’ is a track off our upcoming album that represents the next chapter of Symbolik. Our sound has changed a lot since our first release, and this is one of the songs that started that transition into what we’ve become today. We have always considered adding symphonic elements to our music, but we never really got to experiment with it until we started writing/recording new music. More...

Flotsam & Jetsam Signs With AFM Records
U.S. thrash metal legends Flotsam and Jetsam have inked a worldwide deal with AFM Records. The band’s new album, simply titled "Flotsam and Jetsam" will be released on May 20th.
Timo Hoffmann (AFM Records A&R) commented: "We’re honored that Flotsam and Jetsam have decided to join our roster. Of course we’ve followed their career for many years and always valued the band’s qualities. This new, self-titled album is a blast! We’ve been convinced right from the very first demos sent. It was obvious to us why the album is titled as it is: „Flotsam and Jetsam“ holds the essence of what defines the band – this album is a statement, something to be proud of. And we are proud to start working with the band with such a special release."
The band stated: "Flotsam and Jetsam really appreciated the fact that AFM laid out a legitimate, business plan for us when they made their offer to sign us. We believe they are as committed to us as a band, as we are to providing them with quality metal to get behind and promote. Along with signing to a new label, all the forward movement for the band in the last two years has also allowed us to partner with new team members; like Chris Collier of CMC21 Productions, who just completed the mixing and mastering of the album and Andy Pilkington of Very Metal Art out of the UK, for the album cover and stage production art, who are both doing a phenomenal job for us. We’re looking forward to playing the music on this album live, which hasn’t been a luxury for the band on past releases, as well as debuting our new stage look."

Stare At The Clouds To Release Debut Album
Sydney prog outfit Stare at the Clouds is about to release the debut full-length record, an atmospheric, immersive fifty minutes of ecstasy and anguish, highs and lows troughs and peaks. The album is a five year journey for the songwriters from thought to finished product and the proof is in the pudding. Stare at the Clouds are releasing "This Clear Divide" on Friday April 15th. Pre-Orders on iTunes are available now at this location, with buyers getting single "The Falling" right now as a free download. You can also stream "The Falling" in the player below.
The brainchild of Seb Key, Stare At The Clouds takes inspiration from the likes of Karnivool, A Perfect Circle, Radiohead and Between The Buried And Me – combining melodic polymetric textures, growling low-end, turning rhythms and groove to create a calculated, slow, heavy wash of sound.
A project that began as a collaboration between Seb and his wife, Cassandra Key on drums, was given new life when joined by Keelan Butterick on vocals and guitar, Evan Jackson on bass and Jacob Grindrod on guitar in 2012. More...
Dominance Returns With Third Studio Album
Italian death metal act Dominance has returned after a seven year slumber by announcing the impending release of the third full length studio album "XX: The Rising Vengeance." The album marks a further evolution in the sound of the band, which was founded in the '90's and is expected for release this year via Sliptrick Records (date to be announced soon).
Musically, the new album alternates from fast and sharp assaults to mid-tempo tritaossa and adds much more melodic parts and atmosphere. The parties characterized in the past by intricate stylistic constructions give way to a more square and direct attitude, which will definitely be an impact on stage. Vocally, Massimiliano Marri (who joined the band in 2013) alternates from pure growls and howls to more melodic styles.
With two albums under the band's belt "Anthems of Ancient Splendour" released in 1999 (via Scarlet Records) - considered by many a cult album - and "Echoes of Human Decay" released in 2009 (via Kolony Records). In addition to Marri, "XX: The Rising Vengeance" also features a new guitar team: Gabriele Galbulli Cavazzini, who joined in 2013, and Luca Alzapiedi, who joined in 2015.
The influences found in the first two albums added to the musical experiences of the band's newest members are masterfully blended together on "XX: The Rising Vengeance." The combination follows a stylistic evolution of the band, a recipe for a very diverse album even within the continuity of the unique characteristics that made this a death metal band in the past.
