Powerman 5000's Video Game Distrubtion Tactic
Powerman 5000 has contributed three new songs to THQ's 'WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw,' a wrestling video game set for release in November. While some might see this as a significant artistic regression, Spider One envisions "millions of kids" performing simulated submission holds and mindlessly listening to Powerman songs eight hours a day. "Years back, we had a song on the first Tony Hawk game," he tells Newt Briggs of the Las Vegas Mercury. "To this day, a lot of kids cite that as how they found out about us. You know, you get your songs played on MTV and on the radio and no one notices, but the kids are like, `Hey, I heard you on Tony Hawk.'"

Starwood Kick Off Tour In Hollywood & UK
Starwood fans are about to get the big "break" they deserve: the Metal Blade recording artists have confirmed they will begin a world tour for their label debut, "If It Aint Broke, Break It!" in their hometown - Hollywood, California - on November 15, sharing the bill at the House of Blues with the legendary UFO. The next day, Starwood is off to the U.K. for a series of dates with Vince Neil.
The tour announcement comes just as Starwood is shooting the first video from "If It Aint Broke, Break It!" According to vocalist/guitarist Lizzy, who produced the recording with band mate Joey Scott (drums & percussion/backing vocals), the song, "Subculture," is an invitation to those who will never be in the elite of society to join Starwood and others like them in the subculture of Hollywood.
The video mixes performance footage with scenes celebrating the Hollywood scene Starwood celebrates in their music. "Subculture" is just one of several tracks on "If It Aint Broke, Break It!" garnering nationwide airplay and favorable notices. Others include "All My Girlfriends Have Boyfriends," "Whats Your Damage" and "Backlash." More...

Iron Maiden Xmas Card Competition
From the official Iron Maiden website:
Aaaaaah it's that time again. Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat... hang on, it's only October! Ahem.
Right. As many of you will know, the last few years we've thrown the design of the official Iron Maiden xmas card open to you guys. This is the card that gets sent to FC members, to friends of the band... and to the last minute people we realise we've forgotten :) Each year, the standard has been amazingly high and we've had a real challenge agreeing on a winner.
So, we'd like you guys to do it again. Send us your designs - conforming to the specs below - and the winner will be picked by Rod, be printed and sent to loads of people. The winner will get a credit on the card and a big bag of groovy Iron Maiden stuff.
Your design needs to be A5 size (about 21 by 15 cm) - it's up to you which way round it goes (portrait or landscape). The picture is entirely up to you.
Now here's the important stuff - as the design will be printed, you need to make sure you have a high-resolution image that you can send us if we choose your card. If you're hand painting or drawing, no problem, but if you're creating your design from scratch in Photoshop or whatever, please make sure you do it at 600dpi and not at the lower resolution you'd use for things that are going to be displayed only on a monitor. Keep the original in a very safe place, and send us a copy.
How to submit your design:
Please send in your submissions as lower-resolution JPEG or GIF images - we don't need you to send the huge hi-res file until we choose the winner.
Please make sure that you name your file with your own name - eg. jimsmith.jpg - cos otherwise we get 200 'maiden.jpg'!
Email you entries to us here and please make sure you include your contact details.
Closing date for entries is 15th November. Good luck!
More Papa Roach Tour Dates Announced
Papa Roach are making like their namesake, infesting the Billboard rock charts with the title track from their fourth album, "Getting Away With Murder." So what's next for the California quartet? They're about to release a new single and hit the road on a U.S. tour.
In a move that might surprise some of their diehard fans, the Roaches are readying the power ballad "Scars" as their second single. It's a big, sweeping mixture of guitars and honesty, as Jerry Horton crunches out chords and frontman Jacoby Shaddix sings about his struggles with sobriety.
"Some of our fans hear that song and say, 'I had to give it a few listens, dude. But I love it,' " Shaddix said. "It's a P-Roach anthem. It has heart. It's just undeniable. It stems from a good night in Vegas turned bad. I ended up in the hospital with 11 staples in my head, self-mutilation. It was just a really bad night. It's about trying to help someone who really doesn't want you to help them.

Hammerfall Album Recordings Nearing Completion
Hammerfall guitarist Oscar Dronjak has posted the following message on the group's official web site:
"As I write this, we have only half a day of recording left, doing the backing vocals. For the past seven weeks, we have been hard at work on this, our fifth studio effort, and it's wonderful to be finished! When I have a bit more distance to the recordings, I will try to describe the contents so you will know what to expect in March. However, I can safely say that if you are a fan of Hammerfall, you will not be disappointed this time around, either. We poured our hearts and souls — as well as blood, sweat and tears, mind you — into the production of this record, and I definitely think it shines through: the music is more alive than it ever has been before.
"We shall see what the professional music lovers will think about it next Saturday, when we will have a big listening session here at Lundgård for journalists from all over the world. It should be interesting and fun, but it's also a little nervous presenting your new material to other people. Especially to those who will put their first impression in print for thousands and thousands to read. :) But I'm not really worried, as I know we have done our best and created another landmark in the upwards-moving evolution of our music. Praise is great, but neither good reviews nor bad ones would ever influence us in one direction or another. We are artists creating musical pieces for the world to love hate or disregard. Now, it is up to you do pass judgment. Our work is done, and I have to tell you: it feels fuckin' great! Up the Hammers!"
