Havochate Add Former Hades Drummer

New York-based metal band Havochate, now featuring former Testament bassist Greg Christian, have announced the addition of drummer Ron Lipnicki (ex-Hades) to the group's ranks.

Havochate are scheduled to release their sophomore effort before the end of the year in Europe and January 2005 in the U.S. The follow-up to last year's "This Violent Earth", which was released through Root Of All Evil Records, was recorded at Pyramid Sound Recording Studios in Ithaca with producer Alex Perialas (Testament, Anthrax, Overkill). Handling the drums on the upcoming CD is former Testament/Slayer member Jon Dette (who has since left the band and has been replaced by a returning Ovie Rodriguez). In addition to Christian, the as-yet-untitled effort will mark the recording debut with the group of new frontman Tim Bouchee, who was brought into the fold last year after the departure of vocalist Jon Mallek.

Havochate will make their next live appearance on Tuesday, October 26 at CBGB in New York City.

The Bled To Support The Used

With 297 shows under their belt in support of their debut Pass the Flask, The Bled will make one last trip around the U.S. before heading into the studio to record their follow-up album. The Bled snagged a supporting slot for the Used and will share the stage with Atreyu, Head Automatica, The Bronx and No Warning.

“We are finishing up roughly 16 months of solid touring in support of Pass the Flask , topping it all off with this tour alongside the Used. It’s going to be the biggest, longest and probably most insane tour we've been a part of,” says Jeremy Talley, guitar player. “It still hasn't really set in -- that we’re doing it. I'm pretty sure things are gonna get broken.”

Over the course of the last year, The Bled have supported bands including My Chemical Romance, Poison The Well, Avenged Sevenfold and many others, in the U.S as well as the U.K. In addition, the metalcore outfit spent four weeks on this year’s Warped Tour ruling the Interpunk.com and Smartpunk.com stages.

Upon completion of this tour The Bled will retreat to their home state of Arizona to begin work on their sophomore effort. Talley explains: “After the madness of this tour, we are taking the winter off to finish writing and begin recording the new songs. I don't want to talk too much about it since it’s still really early but so far the new stuff is coming out really ugly.” He adds, “This is a good thing if you ask me… We like ugly scary stuff and we’re getting pretty good at it.”

Katatonia To Release Compilation And DVD

Peaceville will be issuing a limited edition compilation, entitled "The Black Sessions," featuring selected material from the "new era" (defined 1998-2004), as opposed to the "old era" material covered in "Brave Yester Days," at the end of January. The packaging will be a box set of two discs featuring all the single's b-sides, cover songs and selective songs off "Discouraged Ones" up and til "Viva Emptiness" (including one unreleased track from this recording session). There'll also be a third disc in the form of a live DVD with a Katatonia live show from April 2003 that was shot in Kracow, Poland. The layout of a 12 page booklet + poster will be handled by Travis Smith.

The official DVD release that has been in the works since over a year and a half has been postponed to a yet undecided future date, likely during the later part of 2005. Reason is Katatonia didn't feel entirely happy with the way it was shaping up and it wouldn't meet their own demands of what should be Katatonia's first offical DVD release. A new main show for this DVD will be planned and shot with more careful directing behind it during next year (tba).

2 Entombed DVDs On The Way

Entombed guitarist Alex Hellid recently spoke to the U.K.'s Live 4 Metal webzine about the delayed U.S. release of the group's "Inferno" album and the band's Threeman Recordings label, among other topics. Several excerpts from the interview follow:

Live 4 Metal: Bass player Jörgen Sandström left the band early this year. Your website says it was due to too much touring. How much is too much?

Alex Hellid: "For him, four months straight. I think he was a little tired of the whole thing and then it's not fun to be on the road. But he's still active in Threeman and is now part of Vicious Art (we just mastered the album and it’s so fucking good it's unbelievable; great metal!). And The Project Hate."

Live 4 Metal: Any plans for a comprehensive Entombed DVD in the foreseeable future? I know you've got the "Monkey Puss" DVD out there.

Alex Hellid: "'Monkey Puss' sucks! We have plans for two DVDs. One documenting 'Unreal Estate', which is us playing with the Swedish Royal Ballet (yes, it's as crazy as it sounds) and the other is planned to be a history of the band with everything we can dig out."

Live 4 Metal: How important is it to get that classic down-tuned guitar sound on an Entombed album? It’s a trademark sound. What’s the secret?

Alex Hellid: "Very important, I'd say. We get lynched otherwise. No secret, just old shit turned up loud. Marshall amps and Boss Heavy Metal distortion. On the first three albums we used small peavey amps and Emg 85 guitar pick-ups. The trick is to not use too many pedals and sound-weakening effects between the amp and the guitar, I think."

Report

X-Fest 8, Huntington, WV Report

My assignment was simple; infiltrate X-Fest for an interview with Bobaflex via backstage passes provided by the tour manager. I was prepared for this assignment, questions written in an organized fashion, digital voice recorder fully charged and tested, along with the digital camera for the after interview photos of the band and their live show. Plans to meet the tour manager at the gate were confirmed days earlier, along with rules on photographing, recording and time limitations.

About 12:35 on Saturday, October second, we parked my truck in the post office parking lot, two blocks from the front gates to Harris Riverfront Park. The park sits on the north end of downtown Huntington, West Virginia, directly on the Ohio River. The second was a cool day, grey and gloomy from the full cloud cover. The air was wet and the ground muddied from showers before sunrise. As long as the rain held, it was excellent weather to be at a crowded all day rock concert, surrounded by hundreds of tattooed people wearing black. More...

Hate Eternal To Open For Hatebreed In Florida

Hate Eternal, currently finishing their 3rd album, the follow up to "King of All Kings," will be opening for Hatebreed on October 28th, 2004 at the State Theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida. Hatebreed is playing a special show in the Tampa area to make up for the missed Ozzfest show due to the hurricanes here over the last month.

As far as the new album's progress, Erik has this to say: "Everything is almost tracked and we'll begin mixing in November for a Spring 2005 release. The album has been the smoothest of my career and is pummeling! I believe it captures all the elements of the first 2 albums, but is also so much more diverse in every aspect. It really has captured so much of what we all are in this band individually and collectively. We are so very excited and look forward to getting on the road next year in support for our new album. See you soon!"

Bloodshoteye Seeks New Drummer, New Photos Online

Bloodshoteye guitarist Shane has posted this message on the band's official website:

Well first off we have to give a huge thanks to Patrice Hamelin of Martyr and Mike LePrieur for their dedication by helping us out filling in on drums this weekend. We wouldn't have been able to do these shows with out you guys, we had a great time meeting you and partying together. As ya'll may know by now our drummer quit the band 4 days before we were to play this weekend of shows, with no notice or anything we had to find replacments at the last minute. There was no way in hell we'd cancel this weekend, to be on the same bill as such great bands as Cryptopsy, Cephalic Carnage & The End and then playing the Montreal show at The Medley for about 1500 people. There is NOTHING in the world that feels better then being on that huge stage and playing for such a big and intense crowd. Check out hundreds of pictures from the show thanks to Aaron here.

So the hunt is one for a new drummer we have been in contact with a bunch of people and will start auditioning drummers very shortly. If you or someone you know would be interested in becoming part of the BSE crew get in touch with us and we'll go from there. We only have a couple shows booked for the rest of the year in which time we will start demoing new songs and record the new album early next year! Then we plan to hit the road and start playing as much a possible. This machine won't be stopped its only gonna get better from here on out!

Bruce Dickinson To Host Documentary

Eric Fetters of HeraldNet.com reports: While Bruce Dickinson waited for his camera crew to set up inside the Boeing Co.'s Everett plant, two slightly sheepish mechanics asked for an autograph.

It's not every day a heavy-metal music legend comes to visit.

Dickinson's name might not jump out to pop music fans, but the mechanics knew him as the voice of heavy metal band Iron Maiden.

Dickinson, 46, was lead singer on seven consecutive Iron Maiden albums that went platinum or gold during the 1980s and early 1990s.

He's also a commercial airline pilot with an intense interest in aviation, which explains why one of the gods of metal was inside Boeing's cavernous 747 assembly building on Wednesday. Dickinson is the host of a documentary series tentatively titled "Flying Heavy Metal" that's scheduled to air next year on the European version of the Discovery Channel.

"We looked at doing a reality TV show about training airline pilots, and it morphed into this — a five-part series about the development of the airliner since 1945," Dickinson said.
