Vulvodynia Shares New Music Video

South African death metal six-piece Vulvodynia have released new single / video "Banquet of Enigmatic Horrors Pt. 1" ahead of their new album "Praenuntius Infiniti," which is out 17th September via Unique Leader Records. The video can be seen below.

The band commented: "'Banquet of Enigmatic Horrors Part I: Terror' is the first of a two-part series of tracks off our upcoming album Praenuntius Infiniti. After the earth travelled through centuries of darkness in 'The Shadowy Descent of Gaia' it entered the 'Eternal Wasteland of Galaxies' where Praenuntius begins his feast in the 'Banquet of Enigmatic Horrors'. These two tracks tell the story of the chaos that takes place within the belly of our protagonist Praenuntius as he harvests negative energy from all the planets he's devoured.

"Sonically we focused a lot on grooves and aggression while still maintaining the more technical sound that we have been going for on this album. The use of theremin, orchestral elements and other obscure sounds paint a homage to our love for classic Sci-Fi horror. A new theatrical sound introduced into the Vulvodynia arsenal by incorporating the orchestral prowess of Malcolm Pugh of Inferi [The Artisan Era].

"The new music video throws us headfirst into this universe as we try to survive the Alien Zombie Infestation of Praenuntius Spawn after smoking some fat blunts in our tour van." More...

Interview

Space Chaser Demands "Give Us Life" With New Album

Back in the early eighties, thrash metal exploded onto the scene, forging a blend of hardcore punk and New Wave Of British Heavy Metal influences. While it experienced strong commercial success in the decade, it would be damaged by the emerging grunge scene, before once again rearing it's head in the 2000s. Just as thrash had once been seen as the opposing force of glam metal, so it was in the new millenium that people once more flocked to the genre to save them from emo music and metalcore.

This of course meant that a new breed of thrash metal bands were born, with some such as Evile, Gama Bomb and Municipal Waste garnering a worldwide fan base. In Germany, where so many iconic names of the genre had been born, there was another collective who wanted to combine their love of thrash metal with the science fiction and horror movies. A quintet by the name of Space Chaser.

Formed in the beautiful capital city of Berlin in 2011, the band would release a few demos before their debut full length, "Watch The Skies!" was unleashed in 2014. A sophomore effort, "Dead Sun Rising" followed two years later, but then the band seemed to go quiet for a while. Faced with the struggles of touring and being an independent band with little backing, problems inevitable came their way. A decade on from their formation however, they're stronger than ever and their new album, "Give Us Life," which will be released through Metal Blade Records on July 16th is solid proof of this.

To find out more about the album, we caught up with drummer Matthias Scheuerer, who discussed the album, its themes, artwork and music videos, as well as why it took five years for a new album to be released, science fiction and much more. You can check it out below. More...

Controversial Shares "Violence" Visualizer Video

Belgian industrial band Controversial has just dropped the visualizer for their song, "Violence." The track appears on Controversial's most recent Cleopatra Records release, Second Genesis.

The song, "Violence" is based on a documentary from the 1990s about human violence.

As far as motivation is concerned, Controversial deals with the darker side of humanity. Violence is of course up there and we refer also to war as the culmination of violence. We do it from the position of a spectator outside of humanity. More...

Portrait To Release New Album In September

On September 3rd, Portrait will release their new album, At One with None, via Metal Blade Records. For a first preview of At One with None, a video for the new single "Phantom Fathomer" can be viewed at: www.metalblade.com/portrait - where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

- jewelcase-CD
- deluxe box set (hardcover box, white vinyl, exclusive 7", back patch, art print, hand-signed photo card - limited to 500 copies)
- 180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
- gold vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 300 copies)
- silver vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
- red w/ black dust vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
- green vinyl (US exclusive)

When it comes to modern heavy metal, there are few bands operating at the same level as Portrait. For a decade and a half, the Swedish unit have been forging their own path, and in the process, infusing life into a longstanding, well-established genre and taking it in new directions. Following up 2017's acclaimed "Burn The World," they return with the mighty "At One With None," which was recorded at JFK Studios in Kristianstad, Sweden with Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Hatesphere) handling the mixing.

While Portrait fans will immediately recognize it as the work of their heroes, they are not simply rehashing old ideas and treading where they have before. "One simple 'rule' that I have had personally is that no song written for this album and onwards should be similar to any song that we have already written and released. We have been doing this for 15 years now, and I am proud to say that I think we have managed to find our own identity and sound, which can't really be said about that many bands today. This is our greatest achievement, and the goal is to keep exploring and developing our own sound, without repeating ourselves." The results of working with this philosophy are undeniable, making for an essential addition to the Portrait canon. More...
