Unearthing the Metal Underground: Wharflurch
Two gentlemen who have worked together in the D-beat/death band Hot Graves formed Wharflurch just a couple of years ago, and they already have several demos, EPs and splits to their name. One “MC” handled the instrumentation, while “JM”—who had been a drummer in all of his previous bands—helmed the mic stand. Since its inception, the band has drafted in a live lineup, and the unit is gearing up to release it’s debut full-length. “Psychedelic Realms Ov Hell” will be released on September 3 via Personal Records (CD) and Gurgling Gore (cassette tape). As the album title might suggest, the Floridian band’s first long player is a psychedelic spin on tried and true death metal. More...
Trivium To Release New Album In October
Grammy-nominated band Trivium - Matt Heafy [vocals, guitar], Corey Beaulieu [guitar], Paolo Gregoletto [bass], and Alex Bent [drums] - has announced that they will release their tenth album, titled "In The Court of The Dragon," on October 8th via longtime label Roadrunner Records. The record was produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur and recorded in the Fall of 2020 at Full Sail University in Orlando, FL. The band has also shared the new song "Feast of Fire," which is joined by an official music video. You can check it out below.
The footage was filmed at the band’s HQ - The Hangar in Orlando, FL. It was shot by director John Deeb.
Paolo Gregoletto says, "There's always that one song you aren't expecting when you begin writing a new album," says Gregoletto about the song and, in turn, sharing an inside look at the band's songwriting process. "It could be a riff written on the spot in the rehearsal space, a lyric that pairs just right with a melody, or in the case of "Feast of Fire," sitting right there in front of us in the middle of a demo that Corey brought in. We were well into pre-production at Full Sail when we all decided that something about the demo we had tracked was good but could be even better. Our producer Josh Wilbur even had in his notes: 'Bridge is special, maybe so special it needs its own song.' We tore the song apart and began again on the spot."
He continues, "We went into this album knowing we had time to consider everything and anything that came about during this period, and if need be, we could start again if it didn’t feel right given that no touring was on the horizon." More...

Viserion Debut Full-Length Album
From its inception, Viserion has never shied away from the outlands of darkness and despair. Embodying the shadows that skirt our nightmares and steal our joy. Embracing the bleakness, their debut record “Natural Selection” will leave you haunted.
Formed in 2019, members John Magnani (guitarist), Benedetto Marvilli (bassist and vocalist) and Matt Marvilli (drummer) came together to cast their long shadow over the world. Taking inspiration from arguably black metal’s most fertile and explosive period — the early to mid-1990s — the music channels the unrelenting terror and iciness of their forebears: Mayhem, Darkthrone and Behemoth. The foreboding darkness that transcends from each note is a palpable experience.
The collective hopelessness of the past year has been actively channeled into each of the 7 songs featured on “Natural Selection”. Forced into separation and quarantine, the band embraced this melancholy in their composition, juxtaposed by the frenetic drumming of someone forced to create on the spot as the world, again, began to turn.
“Natural Selection” will be released August 13th, 2021. Dark and evasive in both presentation and lyrics, Viserion will lead you into the great undeniable void, dripping with beautiful anguish. More...
Fornhem Reveals New Album Details
Fornhem ("Ancient Home)" are now releasing the video single "Uþarba Spa." The track is taken from the Swedish black metal trio's forthcoming album "Stämman från Berget" ("The Voice from the Mountain"), which is slated for release on November 5, 2021. Cover art, tracklist, and further details of this harsh full-length can be viewed below. The video "Uþarba Spa" can be seen below.
The title "Uþarba Spa" derives from a partial transcript of the inscription on the famously large runestone of Björketorp, Sweden. This stunning 4 metre high stone towers over a pre-Viking age grave-field in unique setting aligned with other stones that is thought to form a consecrated area. The debated proto-Norse inscription written in a late version of the Elder Futhark uses the Galdralag metre supposedly associated with Germanic spells. 'Uþarba Spa' probably translates as "I foretell perdition."
Fornhem comments: "The runic inscription on the Björketorp stone constitutes a curse or a threat, which makes it quite unique among this type of monument in Sweden and elsewhere', explains drummer, vocalist, and lyricist Vafthrudner. "My lyrics are written from the perspective of one of the deceased, buried close to the stone, whose spirit warns us mortals not to disturb the slumber of the dead. The title and the lyrics are also a tribute to our former project, Fördärv, which in English means something like 'ruin' or 'devastation'. The word literally appears in these lyrics: 'Jag spår fördärv', which translates as 'I predict ruin'. The past is alive!" More...

Criminal Frontman On New Album, Brujeria & Lock Up
When it comes to South American metal, most people tend to focus on Brazil, which has after all given the world such legendary names as Sepultura, Ratos de Porão, Sarcófago and Korzus. However, when one looks beyond the surface, there are so many bands of note across South America. Some may be drawn to Inquisition of Colombia, or Hermética from Argentica, but for the most part, people will mention Chile's own Pentagram (internationally known as Pentagram Chile) and their founder Anton Reisenegger, who would also go on to form another beloved South American thrash outfit, Criminal, along with guitarist Rodrigo Contreras.
Thirty years on from the inception of Criminal and the band is preparing to mark this milestone with "Sacrificio," their first album in five years, which is already promising to delight long time fans and thrill new ones. Recorded in the capital city of Santiago, the ninth full length output continues the band's signature blend of thrash and death metal, and even features a few grindcore influences, thanks in part to Reisenegger's time over the past decade as a member of grind supergroups Lock Up and Brujeria.
To discover more about "Sacrificio," (set to be released on September 17th through Metal Blade,) the social situations and politics in Chile which helped shaped the tone and outlook of the record, as well as more information on Lock Up's new album, "The Dregs Of Hades" and when the public can expect a new full length album from another beloved project he's involved in, Brujeria. Defacing God Signs With Napalm Records
Napalm Records and in-house booking agency Napalm Events are proud to announce the signing of melodic death metal five-piece Defacing God. Inspired by rich and dark Scandinavian metal traditions, their sound balances massive melodies with a twist of classical music and ballistic “in-your-face” death metal with deep inspirations from witchcraft, occultism and the obscure. The quintet is now ready to conquer the scene!
Formed by vocalist Sandie ‘The Lilith’ Gjørtz and co-founder Michael Olsson (drums) in 2015, Defacing God merged a perfect constellation of members in 2017, completing their mutual vision for the project. Defacing God's concept is based on the resurrection of Lilith: Through their storytelling, music and the group’s aesthetic, they pull their listeners into a dark universe, a time travel through occult myths, folklore and ancient stories. Their debut album, entitled The Resurrection Of Lilith, is currently recorded in collaboration with Jacob Hansen, who is known for working with bands like Volbeat and Destruction, and will be released via Napalm Records in 2022.
Defacing God on the signing:
"Today we are very proud to announce that we have signed a worldwide record deal with Napalm Records! After the release of the music video for our track 'Succumb The Euphoria' in 2020 we got in contact with Napalm Records and the deal was sealed. Since then we ´ve just waited for this pandemic to pass so we could share the news!
"We are truly grateful for this collaboration, this new chapter in our journey, and we can’t wait to get back on the road! Currently we are getting ready to hit the studio for the recording of our long-awaited debut album The Resurrection Of Lilith. We would also like to give a special thanks to Jacob Hansen, the master of massive sound production and our beloved sound engineer for being the greatest work-partner we could ask for during all this! With this great support behind our back we can’t wait to spread our music across the world!"
