Finntroll Announces European Tour With Skálmöld

After aeons of forging plans, writing new hymns and hiding from plagues, Finntroll can finally announce that they are crawling out from their caves and into the tourbus again. March 2021 Finntroll will hit mainland Europe with their new album, Vredesvävd, bringing old and new allies to the raid.

Supporting acts will be Icelandic Skálmöld returning from their hibernation and Atavistia. Be prepared, for the troll horde shall be hitting your town very soon.

Finntroll's seventh studio album - the first in long seven years - Vredesvävd will be out on September 18 and the title translates to “Wrath-woven”, which aptly implies what the vigorous, unapologetic and ill-spirited record is all about. More...

Alpha Wolf Releases New Music Video

Melbourne's Alpha Wolf have spent the last few years carving themselves out as one of the heaviest acts in the metalcore scene, but with the weight of expectations for their sophomore album sitting above their heads, the band wanted to truly challenge both themselves and the expectations of their fans. With their new single "Bleed 4 You," the band will be sure to turn more than a few heads.

"This song is a little out of our comfort zone but upon completion we feel we created something special. We’re not a band who wants to stick solely to one sound, we have a wide variety of influences and we want each song to stand up on its own." guitarist Sabian Lynch reflects as he speaks of the third single from their upcoming sophomore album "A Quiet Place To Die' which will be released via Greyscale Records / Sharptone Records on September 25th.

Lyrically, as Lynch continues, the track stems around an all too familiar tale. "We initially had written pages of lyrics for this song. It seems most people have a story of meeting the exact right person at the exact wrong time, so there was no short supply of input. However the further we delved into the song, the more apparent it came that we didn’t need pages of lyrics, just a handful of the right words. Originally the track was a lot heavier, which shouldn’t come as a surprise, but once we had the lyrical theme in mind we revisited the song and it evolved into something none of us expected."

Joining Alpha Wolf to bring this track into a realm of it's own is the etherial voice of Lizi Blanco from fellow Greyscale Records act The Beautiful Monument. "Bringing Lizi in to be part of bleed 4 you was something special. We haven’t had an outside voice sing on a song of ours for quite some time and so we were very cautious at first; however being label mates with Lizi/The Beautiful Monument as well as huge fans of her voice, it all came together so well and we couldn’t have found a better fit. We flew her down to our studio to just make it that little more personal, and once we began, we were so overwhelmed at how perfect her voice sat in the song, we knew we were onto something special." The Ocean Announces European Tour Dates

On 25th September, The Ocean will release their 8th full-length, "Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic," via Metal Blade Records (CD / digital) and the band's own Pelagic Records (vinyl). In 2018, The Ocean released "Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic" - the first half of a sprawling but superbly cohesive paleontology concept album. Now, the group is ready to release the eagerly-awaited concluding parts of the Phanerozoic journey.

The Ocean has now announced a European tour set to kick off January 7th in Wiesbaden, Germany. Check below for full dates. Support comes from PG. Lost, Hypnose and Svalbard.

The Ocean comments: "This tour has been planned for a long time already and despite the unprecedented situation we’re all currently going through, we decided to announce it and put tickets on sale now. We hope that this will serve as a strong positive statement for bands, promoters and music fans alike. As this develops, we have to assess, analyse and make the right decisions for everyone involved. The tour going ahead in early 2021 relies on many elements to fall into place, and if it can’t go ahead, then we have a backup routing in place already for later in the year, and all tickets purchased for this tour will be transferrable to that. Be assured that we will keep assessing this situation as we head later into 2020, and be in communication with everyone. Much love and we hope to see you guys out there in January!"

The Unguided To Release New Album In October

Swedish Melodic Death Metal formation The Unguided break down barriers with their upcoming long player, Father Shadow, to be released on October 9th via Napalm Records.

With their new full-length, these Nordic heavyweights prove that they can’t be pigeonholed. Eleven quick-tempered, high-voltage pieces indicate that The Unguided have liberated themselves from the shadows of the past but are still aware of their manifold roots. The intoxicating mixture of clean hooklines and classifying screams lead up to a unique symbiosis of pure harshness. “Crown Prince Syndrome” is the first offering off Father Shadow and showcases the unmistakable supremacy of the Swedish four piece.

Along with the first single, they are also introducing their new band line-up, since their former bass-player Henric Liljesand departed the band to concentrate on other projects. But nevertheless, The Unguided are more than ready to present their razor-sharp arrangement and hard-hitting sense for modern melodic death metal interlaced with core and electronic elements. Armored Saint Reveals New Album Details

On October 23rd, Armored Saint will release their eighth full-length, "Punching The Sky," via Metal Blade Records. For a first preview of the album, a video for the new single, "End of the Attention Span" (directed by Robert Graves // ashadowbeyond.com), can be viewed below

Bassist Joey Vera comments: "We've teamed up with video director Robert Graves for our first single, 'End of the Attention Span'. Robert got the lyrical content right away and together we delved into society's ongoing fascination with electronic devices and the insidious disconnect it creates. The irony is that most of us feel connected together through our phone and computer screens, but the reality is that we have created a wedge between ourselves. Our human interactions have been infected with an intense need for information. We're always 'looking' for more. The end result is a very damaged attention span."

Leaders and stalwarts of the American heavy metal scene since the early 80s, Armored Saint's "Punching The Sky" sees them returning hard. A diverse, attitude-drenched collection, it's everything the band's faithful have come to expect from them while pushing their signature sound forward. "The goal is to write really good music. I know I'm stating the obvious here but that's about the size of our agenda," says bassist Joey Vera. "We've been able to shed a lot of expectations that sometimes plague a band like ours that has been around a long time, and we've recently moved into a comfort zone with just being ourselves. We have this kind of freedom now that we didn't really have early in our career, and we can take some chances and make the kind of music that we want to hear. This record is a reflection of where we are at, right now." Exploding to life with the crunchy, rousing "Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants" and not letting up until the closing ruthless riff of "Never You Fret", the record is possessed of an urgency and vigor which very much places it in the right now, but could only be the work of Vera, guitarists Phil Sandoval and Jeff Duncan, drummer Gonzo Sandoval and vocalist John Bush. "When you're a band that began four decades ago, you really have to push yourself harder than ever when it comes to making a new record," states Bush. "The last thing you ever want is for it to appear as though you were going through the motions or that you're just putting a product out to do some touring. The records are immortal. They'll be here long after us. Every one needs to count in its own individual way." More...
