Drowning Pool Frontmand Died of Natural Causes
It has now been confirmed that Drowning Pool frontman Dave Williams died from natural causes, and not from anything drug or alcohol related. The 30-year-old singer was found dead on the band's tour bus on August 14, in Virginia.
UPDATE: The cause of death was determined to be Cardiomyopathy, a disorder affecting the heart muscle resulting in inadequate heart pumping. The disorder can be caused by several factors, including viral infections, heart attacks, alcoholism, and severe hypertension, among others.

Believe Disturbed Debuts At #1
Disturbed proves that nu-metal still has a leg to stand on as its second album, Believe, debuts at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with 283,624 in first-week sales, knocking the Dixie Chicks off the top spot.

Amon Amarth Release Date Pushed Back
The release of the new Amon Amarth album, Versus The World has been changed to November 18th. The first pressing will be a limited “Viking Edition” with tons of extra material on a bonus CD!
God Dethroned's Burnt Lungs
Dutch death metallers God Dethroned have changed the projected title of their ne album to Into The Lungs Of Hell from the previously-announced The Universal Slavedriver. The album will be recorded during October at Berno studio in Sweden and will be "another masterpiece of brutal but melodic death metal," according to an official statement from the group. "The band is very confident to beat the predecessors and is looking forward to their first recordings outside their home country." A January 2003 release through Metal Blade Records is expected.
High on Fire Announces Tour Dates
High on Fire have announced two forthcoming US tours in support of their new album, Surrounded By Thieves. The band will embark on a two week trek with Superjoint Ritual beginning October 7th in Orlando and running through October 21st in Austin, TX. Following that tour, High On Fire will then head out for a month-long US jaunt with Mushroomhead and Shadows Fall. This tour kicks off on October 24th in Providence, RI.
Cryptopsy Making Progress
According to their website, “Cryptopsy are presently working on a few different projects, one of which is the release of the (previously reported) live album recorded at the Medley in Montreal last June. The album will have a mix of new and old material that is sure to please any Cryptopsy fan. The band is also preparing for a series of week end shows in November that will take them through the province of Quebec, Ontario, and Michigan. There's been good progress on new material for their fifth release that will be recorded some time next year.”
Tristania To Work On New Material
Tristania's upcoming live performance at Folkets Hus in Jørpeland, Norway next Saturday (September 28th) will mark the band's final show of 2002 in their home country. Having completed a substantial amount of touring in support of their last release, World of Glass, the band have decided to spend the next few months focusing on writing new material for the follow-up album, due sometime in late 2003.

Zachary Stevens to Release Debut CD
CircleIICircle, the new band of former Savatage frontman Zachary Stevens, will release their debut album, entitled Watching In Silence, in February/March 2003 through Germany's AFM Records.

An MP3 of "Halo of Fire", taken from Cathedral's forthcoming The VIIth Coming CD, can be downloaded via the Digital Metal web site at this location.
The VIIth Coming is due for release on November 5th through Spitfire Records.
James Murphy Back in the Studio

Incivism launched by Ex-Broken Hope Members
Incivism, the new band formed by former Broken Hope guitarist Brian Griffin and bassist Sean Baxter, have posted three full-length MP3s via their official web site at the following locations:

The three cuts were culled from a pre-production demo for the group's upcoming full-length debut, entitled Voluntary Exile, which is currently being recorded at Brian's Quali-Tone Studios for a tentative 2003 release. According to the band, the CD will feature 10 tracks of "aggressive death metal attack with a dual vocal approach," handled by both Griffin and Baxter, with the former taking care of all songwriting duties and the latter switching from bass to guitar, his original instrument of choice.
