ESSENCE OF SORROW released its debut album, "Reflections of the Obscure", in December 2006 in Japan through King Records and in January 2007 in Europe via Rivel Records. The band, initially a solo project, began to take shape during the spring of 2005 in Gothenburg, Sweden when Stefanovic started composing intricate music that expressed various feelings through strong melancholic melodies. As time passed, Jani began to expand his vision by transforming his solo project into a full-fledged band. More...

Rob will be spending the week with us here in Knoxville working out all the kinks and getting ourselves in gear to record. Shortly thereafter we will be heading to Sacramento, California for 3-4 weeks to track all the guitars, bass, and drums. This is where we will be getting down to the nitty-gritty...gonna be a blast! After all the music is recorded we are off to Los Angeles, California where Alexis [Brown] will begin working on the vocals for about a week or so.
"We are extremely excited and eager to work with Rob... he definitely has a massive resume to prove he knows what the hell he is doing." More...
Stream ALTER BRIDGE's Philly Performance Online
ALTER BRIDGE will stream its performance at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday, October 21. 93.3 WMMR will broadcast the entire show live as it happens at WMMR.com.
ALTER BRIDGE's sophomore effort, "Blackbird", sold 47,000 copies to debut at No. 13 on The Billboard 200 chart.
ALTER BRIDGE guitarist Mark Tremonti said that while the chart numbers are significant, the band tries not to obsess about them. "Yeah, I mean, first-week sales are an important thing 'cause it is a business and you have to sell CDs to kind of stay out there, and we just want to be able to tour as long as we want — as long as we can," he said. "So the more people that are buying CDs, the longer we can do this. But we don't sit and constantly look at charts. I think people around us usually kind of, we overhear them talking about it."
ALTER BRIDGE is currently on the road with ANOTHER ANIMAL and plays Friday (October 19) in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.
EkoTren Announce US Tour Dates With Diecast
EkoTren will be hitting the road alongside Diecast this winter for a national tour, ending 2007 in a monumental way. Established in Cape Coral, FL in 2000 by vocalist John Sheldon, guitarist Keith Finnell, and keyboardist Steve Chin, EkoTren has carved their name deep into the scene. After seven years of dedication, the band signed with Blind Prophecy Records in September 2007 and immediately hit the studio with acclaimed producer Paul Trust (Diecast, Endo) to craft their first full-length album, ‘Light the Fire’, available worldwide in early 2008. Steered by melody and driven by metal, the 11-track effort breathes new life into fan favorites like "The Tables Have Turned" and displays brand new tracks in EkoTren’s signature style. After the international release of the album, EkoTren aims bring their unique breed of metal to the masses with an extensive tour. More...
Firewind Guitarist Reflects On Japanese Shows
FIREWIND guitarist Gus G. has posted this message on the band's official website:
"Hello metalheads! The third part of our 'World Allegiance' tour came to an end with four very successful shows in Japan! It felt so good going back there exactly one year after our performance at Loud Park festival. This has been our longest Japan tour so far, visiting four major cities - Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Yokohama. All venues were good and packed with loud Japanese metalheads - exactly the way we like it!
We have some great memories of this tour both onstage and offstage. We were treated excellent by the people of Avex and Creative man (promoters), our Japanese crew was top notch and everything was on time and perfectly in place. That's the way the Japanese people work. Even though I've been there eight times so far, I'm still amazed by their professionalism.
On our off day we had the chance to do lots of promotion for various radios, TV interviews and of course the prestigious magazines Burrn! and Young Guitar whom I also shot two instructional DVDs for.
Domo Arigato to Avex company, Kaz & King Records, Nozue, Yuka, A2 and the whole crew, KAMELOT and their crew for being super cool to us - it was a pleasure sharing the stage with you guys!
Also, we'd like to thank the German Metal God, Henning Basse (METALIUM) for taking care of the vocal duties the past months and giving everything on stage with us each night. You're a friend for life and we already miss you!
Last but not least, thanks to all our fans in the Land of the Rising Sun for their never ending support and love! We'll be back soon!"
Seregon Post Tour Report Online
Seregon have posted their own account of their recent "Southern Crusade" tour with Irony Of Christ on their website.
"And here we are with a huge arse update! Below you can read up what we got upto on tour, a video will also be availiable in the coming weeks! Thanks to Alex for writing this up!
"After what seems like an eternity, The Southern Crusade Tour (sponsored by Zero Tolerance) has alas come to an end. The Ten day ‘SC’ tour with Irony of Christ has been without a doubt a success and an awesomely enjoyable one at that! Having laughed more in the past Ten days than I probably ever have, I can look back on a seemingly merged together couple of days and many a sleepless night with the thought that there is nothing better than getting up on stage every night and playing some fuckin’ Metal whilst in the company of, and playing to, some great people and in some cool venues.Firstly, thanks to every single person who, watched us, liked us, talked to us, praised us (or even disliked us), brought a CD, brought a T-shirt, called James a Cunt, brought us a drink, put us up, put up with us, and everything else in between.
Friday 28/09/07 : Yate is the first date of the tour, and a chance to play some new material to the many fans who every time come back to see us, which we really appreciate, just keep coming back! As always an energetic crowd and as far as I can tell the new stuff is well received. I always find with playing Yate that I never get a chance to enjoy the night to much before playing because we’re always running around sorting stuff out (seeing as James and Ben are promoting the gig), which is a shame as there are always so many people I wish I could spend more time chatting to. Cheers to Matt Howes for all his time and help and a special thanks goes to Sam Conway for some awesome pictures of all the bands that evening!
Saturday 29/09/07 : Swindon is next, ‘Demons of Metal 2006’ Yes I said 2006, but wait, we’re in 2007 aren’t we? Indeed we are, but according to our band pass lanyards its Demons of Metal 2006, someone’s mixed up there Terminator and Back to the Future time rules here. It’s the second time we’ve played the Riffs Bar and a cool little venue it is too, just for the fact that they have a part of a wall painted like the Pink Floyd album ‘The Wall’. Thanks to Simon for putting on the show.
Sunday 30/09/07 : And the Junction in Bristol is the destination, meaning we all get to be totally lazy all day because it takes like half hour to get there. Got a chance to finally check out local bands Merihim and Final who we’re both pretty cool. I think anyone who has any ties with the Bristol Metal scene is glad to see Serena up on stage! Another decent turn out, and it’s always nice to see some old faces that you haven’t seen for a while. Having spent the first three days of the tour travelling the minimal distance between venues and home to our own beds,
Monday 01/10/07 : The tour truly gets into gear, with Plymouth being the destination and a Tour Bus being our means of transport. Luckily Dave, Sacha and I sat together, leaving Andy to struggle between the big boys in the back. A stop at a Services reveals that Wimpy is still actually alive….and does Chicken now apparently. Yes I said Wimpy is still alive! Only Ben and James are brave enough to eat there. Anyone else remember Benders in a Bun? What the fuck. Plymouth’s White Rabbit is another cool venue, with a raised drum area and space to move around while playing; I do enjoy actually being able to walk around a bit on stage, if only to get as far away from James and his onstage water showers if possible. Met a few guys from the local Uni and had a fun night hunting down Scotch Eggs at 3 am. Dave and I slept in the van in a busy bus station while the rest of the guys slept in the venue. Cheers to the venue for putting us up the night.
Tuesday 02/10/07 : And we’re off to the Finns in Weymouth, which seems to have a good reputation about it and it didn’t disappoint, Best. Jukebox. Ever. The gig goes really well and for a Tuesday night the place is pretty packed and everyone seems to know everyone else, it’s got a cool feeling in the air and possibly one of the best Metal Communities around. Sound Guy is one of the best we’ve had the whole tour. And getting to walk on the beach on you’re Birthday isn’t a normal occurrence, unless you live near the sea of course. James and Ben try to win me a Nintendo toy with one of those grabby things. Has anyone actually won anything with one of those things? Ever?
Wednesday 03/10/07: Sees The Southern Crusade stopping at Rockers Live in Taunton, a nostalgic venue with all its memorabilia. We shall say the turn out is, well, pretty much non-existent, you can send posters and flyers to the venue/promoters/local bands and it's always obvious if they have promoted at all or given at any flyers! This this date has been reduced to a band practice in front of other bands. The campsite proves the best thing about Taunton if only for the Swan that sounded like it was shouting ‘Ben!’ all the time and Sacha’s seemingly endless supply of Family Guy boxers. If anyone asks, this date of the tour never happened. I’ve never even been to Taunton.
Thursday 04/10/07 : We move on to Winchester and us headlining the night, once again another pretty sweet venue, which like most of the tour is all down to Sacha. Surprisingly our necks are holding up pretty well, despite the wind milling every night. I did well to keep playing mid-way through our set when Dave from IOC full on got his cock out in front of me during Terrestrial Worms, getting slight revenge for James shouting ‘Don’t fuck up’ to Sacha on an acoustic part in one of their songs, ultimately making him totally fuck up the section. Love him or hate him, James is a cunt. An awesome turn out and a fun night. We head towards the last 3 days.
Friday 05/10/07 : We are in Henley on Thames, sounds posh, and it pretty much is, this was base camp between High Wycombe and Reading. Though it is a nice place, a place to take the girlfriends in the summer and probably not for the likes of smelly Metallers. We find a pub to watch the Rugby and watch as England stick it to the Aussies. Sacha and Pete of IOC pretend they wanted England to win all along, despite being Zimbabwean and Welsh. Steak is the meal of the day as eating Pringles gets boring after a few days.
After the match we head to High Wycombe to the venue, The White Horse is actually a strip bar in the day, my eyesight stays on the bar after I’m informed that you have to pay to watch, not that I could see anything without my glasses anyway. Another cool gig and once again both IOC and ourselves get a great reception. Thanks to Laura for taking pictures!By the time Reading roles around, IOC’s Bassist [Cockney Accent] Jamie ‘Smarmy Cunt’ Sweeney [/Cockney Accent] has us all talking in London accents. ‘You crushed my biscuits!’ ‘Say sayonara to my Sushi’ is talk of the last few days. You might notice that Ben and Jamie look pretty similar, hair, beard, stocky, absolute prick….ok maybe not the beard….
Saturday 06/10/07 : In Reading is probably the most enjoyable night of the tour, both pre and post gig. Some awesome music accompanies our lock in as well as some of the funniest shit of the tour, all of which you’ll see on the tour video being put together for the near future. After another late night, we head back to the venue in the morning to be greeted by free shots of Jager as thanks from the manager for the night before. Sold loads of merch and really can’t wait to play the Turks again. Thanks to Thor of Cephelpod for putting some of us guys up for the night.By Sunday everyone was feeling pretty ruff, thanks to Ben everyone had a cold and a sore throat and probably wanted to go home, until you get up on stage that is and you feel great once again. It’s the first time we’ve played London and definitely not the last.
Sunday 07/10/07 : And we are in London, The final venue didn’t disappoint and neither did the crowd, finishing off what turned out to be a tour that had everything from Beer to Balls and everything in between. It all ran smoothly and both bands hopefully made an impression on anyone who saw us. Like we’ll all tell you, if we could we’d do it all over again tomorrow. Thanks to Sacha, Dave, Jamie and Pete and a big thanks to John Beeson and Alan Alpin for driving, as well as all the venues and staff, Zero Tolerance for supporting and sponsoring the tour and especially to the woman who phoned the police on the motorway because we we’re showing porn out the windows, the woman who was offended but not quiet offended enough to garner a warning for any of us and of course everyone for coming along and supporting Seregon and Irony of Christ. And of course I thank Nintendo, for without them this tour would be nothing….I fucking love Nintendo alright! See you again soon! Here’s to next year and hopefully the Northern Escapade Tour as opposed to the Southern Crusade….get it? Thrash til’ Death."

We did not hold back creatively and really strived to push the boundaries of what people expected of us. It's definitely the most pissed off we've ever been."

Swedish prog-metal legends OPETH have issued the following update:
"Opeth have confirmed that they'll appear on the so called Melloboat, a organized ferry trip between Stockholm and Helsinki. The spectacle, christened 'The 21st anniversary schizoid boat' is being organized by the Mellotronen record label and will feature a nothing less but stunning line-up of bands. Among them Opeth, KATATONIA, COMUS (re-uniting for their first gig since 1972), LEAFHOUND, TRETTIOÅRIGA KRIGET, ANEKDOTEN and many more. Some exclusive secret gigs will also take place that is not to be missed!! It's a 24 hour cruise that leaves Stockholm on March 8th of 2008. Tickets goes on sale on October 26.

Brown Brigade Add Guitarist
BROWN BRIGADE, the new metal band featuring former SUM 41 guitarist Dave "Brownsound" Baksh, has announced the addition of guitarist Chuck Coles (ex-CAUTERIZE, MURDER CULTURE).
In other news, BROWN BRIGADE has released its video for the song "Aggravation Plantation". The song comes off the group's full-length debut, "Record Into the Mouth of Badd(d)ness", which came out on September 18. Watch the clip below.
Speaking to Dose.ca of time he decided to leave SUM 41, Baksh said, "Honestly, I really did get really thankless and I still feel like and asshole for it. Because you're up there — and no matter what, no matter who you're dealing with, no matter what country you're in — somebody wants to take something from you. If you really let that get to you and not realize that's what your fucking job is, then it is going to get under your skin and reach down into your soul. But I kind of realized after the period I've had off and just at the end of the time that I had with SUM 41 that you can't really just sit there and feel sorry for yourself...You have to make the best time on this Earth that you can."
He added, "It's weird. I've not only wanted to play metal my entire life — I've been playing metal all of my life. Whenever I was practicing off stage [with SUM 41], it would be to heavy metal." More...

Darkane Announce New Singer
Following the departure of lead singer Andreas Sydow this past August, DARKANE guitarist and founding member Christopher Malmström took some time to write in from Helsingborg, Sweden to announce the band’s new frontman:
“Darkane would like to welcome Jens Broman as our new vocalist!
He’s recently been seen in the vocal spot in CONSTRUCDEAD and THE DEFACED (and will continue to sing in both bands).
Jens grew up in Glumslöv, south of Helsingborg (a good friend of Björn Strid from SOILWORK), but now lives in Stockholm. His live debut with us will take place in three weeks at the ProgPower Scandinavia festival in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 10th.
We’ve been rehearsing hard lately and are very excited to work together with Jens. He has a huge vocal diversity and we are pretty sure that Darkane fans won´t be disappointed.
We had our interests set on Jens at a very early stage and would like to thank all the people who showed their interest in joining Darkane as our vocalist. We wish you all the success in the future, and we’d also like to congratulate Peter [Wildoer, drummer] and [his longtime girlfriend] Erika for getting engaged a few weeks back.”
Last month, Peter Wildoer revealed that Darkane has “about nine songs ready to record” for their upcoming fifth studio album, despite the fact that the band’s Not Quite Studio suffered an extensive amount of damage due to flooding two months ago.

Sworn Enemy Post New Song Online
Queens, New York-based hardcore/metal act SWORN ENEMY has a posted a new song called "Time To Rage" on its MySpace page. The track comes off the group's new album, "Maniacal", due in North America in February 2008 via Century Media Records (November 12, 2007 in Europe). The CD was produced by Tim Lambesis (AS I LAY DYING) and Joey Z (LIFE OF AGONY), who took a very hands-on approach to this album.
"Maniacal" takes SWORN ENEMY's sound to new heights with a thrashier edge pummelling the listener with a furiously blasting impact and unrivalled heaviness that is reminiscent of thrash titans like EXODUS, TESTAMENT as well as early MEGADETH and ANTHRAX.
Adding to the all-star cast in support of this release, Jordan Mancino of AS I LAY DYING recorded all drum tracks for the album. As a fan and friend of the band, Jordan was excited to be a part of this project and did an amazing job laying down a brutal rhythmical fundament for "Maniacal". Drums were recorded at Big Fish Studios, all guitars were nailed down at Method Of Groove Studio, and vocals at Studio Lambesis, whereas mixing duties were handled by the up-and-coming producer Daniel Castleman (DESTROY THE RUNNER, WINDS OF PLAGUE). Amaseffer Complete Vocal Recordings
Drummer and main songwriter Erez Yohanan of the "holy project" AMASEFFER has issued the following update:
"We are happy to announce that the work on the vocal lines for the album is done. It is performed and recorded by Mats Levén (KRUX, ex-THERION, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) at his studio in Sweden.
"Since the departure of our previous singer (Andy Kuntz) we started a rapid work on the lyrics for the CD, since it was his (Andy) job writing it. But now it was a whole new ballgame for we got replacement but we got no lyrics for him!
"It was decided that if we want to move forward as fast as we can in order to record the vocal lines, we need to do it ourselves and write our own lyrics. The long and detailed research we did on the Bible story of the Exodus was at hand when we most needed it and it was a real guide to our work. It was great privilege and honor to use the help of the super talented Yotam 'Defiler' Avni and together with Yuval Kramer they wrote the lyrics for three songs on the album. Other three songs lyrics was written by Erez Yohanan and one was written by Yuval and Erez. All lyrics was done in two weeks including vocal guides for it! More...

At The Gates Announce Reunion Shows
AT THE GATES will reunite for some shows next summer, 2008.The following festivals are confirmed so far:
July
4 - 6 - Ruis Rock - Finland
31 - August 2 - Wacken Open Air - Wacken, Germany
August
15 - 17 - Bloodstock, Derby, UK
More shows to be added soon.
Guitarist Anders Bjorler (THE HAUNTED) comments on the reunion: "Well, it felt like the timing was right for once. We have been talking about a possible reunion for years now, but this was the first time everything fell into place. For me personally, it feels like getting closure. The break-up over ten years ago was abrupt and left a bad vibe between us that took years to get over. We have a better relationship today and a more relaxed approach to who we are and what we do. The time is right to get together and play some shows.
Try to catch us live in the summer 2008. It could be your last chance."

Evergrey Documenting Recording
Swedish metallers EVERGREY are documenting the recording process for their follow-up to 2006's "Monday Morning Apocalypse" for a forthcoming DVD, to be released sometime next year. According to the band, the final result will be "an in-depth look on how the whole recording went, with all the fuck-ups , conversations etc. It's not going to be [EVERGREY's version of the METALLICA documentary] 'Some Kind of Monster' since we dont have the fundings, but nevertheless."
EVERGREY recently announced the addition of former STRATOVARIUS bassist Jari Kainulainen to the group's ranks. Jari made his live debut with the band at Fosen Rock festival in Fosen, Norway on August 25.
EVERGREY is currently seeking a new label home after splitting with Inside Out Music following the release of "Monday Morning Apocalypse".
A video interview with EVERGREY vocalist/guitarist Tom Englund and keyboardist Rikard Zander, filmed in Romaniain April 2007, is available for viewing online at Metalhead.ro.
EVERGREY's last CD, "Monday Morning Apocalypse" was recorded at Division One Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden by the experienced production team of Sanken Sandquist and Stefan Glaumann, who have previously worked with such artists as RAMMSTEIN, BON JOVI, BRITNEY SPEARS and DEF LEPPARD.
Wednesday 13 Project To Be Released In February
Horror High, LLC has set a February 5, 2008 U.S. release date for Wednesday 13's (ex-MURDERDOLLS) video project "Weirdo-A-Go-Go". This will be Horror High, LLC's first release to be distributed by Caroline/EMI.
Horror High, LLC is still looking for the right company to partner with for distribution overseas.
"Weirdo-A-Go-Go" features the campy and morbid sense of humor that any fans of Wednesday 13 can expect. In the first two episodes, Wednesday 13 hosts clips and trailers of cheap horror flicks, along with performing schlocky but witty skits with his strange and wacky sidekicks. The program promises to resurrect the tradition of Saturday morning TV shows that Wednesday 13 grew up on — the random creations of Sid and Marty Krofft and Pee Wee's Playhouse mixed with the comedic approach of horror hosts Commander USA, Elvira, and Zacherely. The project was shot by Rafa of Core Entertainment, Inc. Rafa is most noted for the video and web site projects he has done for AVENGED SEVENFOLD, EVANESCENCE, ROB ZOMBIE, DISTURBED, STATIC-X and the Dimebag tribute bracelet.
WEDNESDAY 13 (ex-MURDERDOLLS) will release his already completed new album, "Skeletons", in March/April 2008. "We have been meeting with various record labels and want to make sure we find the right home," reads a posting on Wednesday's MySpace page. "We want to give the new record label as much time as needed to really set up the CD. This CD is very personal to W13 and he wants to make sure it gets the proper attention." Tentative songtitles set to appear on the album include "From Here to the Hearse", "Dead Carolina", "All American Massacre" and "Not Another Teenage Anthem".

Exodus Cancel Mexican Tour Dates
Veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS have released the following statement:
"EXODUS will not perform the announced Mexico shows October 25th – 27th [with support from AGENT STEEL] on their upcoming South American tour. The band was booked under false pretense by a promoter who failed to fulfill even basic requirements, logistically and financially. It later surfaced that promoter in question was involved in other show related controversies earlier this year when a world-known trash metal band from Europe had to cancel a planned Mexico appearance last minute and advance tickets sold in Mexico were not refunded to the fans.
"EXODUS is sorry to let down their Mexican fans but after failing to meet several deadlines for deposits, airfares and supplying production information, the promoter made it impossible to realize those shows. As of today, six days to originally planned departure from the U.S., the band did not receive any information regarding equipment, lodging and internal transport; neither airfares nor guarantees were paid."
EXODUS' new album, "The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A", is available for streaming in its entirety until October 19 on the band's MySpace page.

Keyboard duties on the trek will now be handled by Jukka Karinen from the Finnish prog-metal outfit STATUS MINOR.

According to the band, the CD is "a milestone, bringing in more of the heavier stuff that 'Tools of Destruction' already hinted at, but still retaining the landmark melodies of THUNDERSTONE.
