The End Pull Out of Show In Vermont to Shoot Video
THE END have posted the following update:
“Unfortunately we have to pull off of the Burlington, VT date (Nov. 4th) at Higher Ground with GWAR and HORSE THE BAND. We will be shooting a video for ‘Never Ever Aftermath.’ Our apologies to anyone that was planning to come out to the show to see us. We will be back around with CHIMAIRA in December so we’ll see you then.”
Therion Update About Final North American Tour
Mainman Christofer Johnsson of the Swedish metallers THERION has issued the following updates:
"1) Snowy got his passport stolen in San Francisco (as some of you already know). He traveled to Japan with a temporary pass and managed to get a new Visa for Japan. While there he has now managed to sort out a new American Visa and has arrived safely to Denver airport and will be making it to the show in Engelwood in good time."
"2) Philadelphia show is now canceled. There was this known issue with the promoter announcing the wrong date. It was too late to correct the date to the same venue, but we tried to book it into some other place instead. This didn't work, so today we received the final decision that Philadelphia is off the schedule. New York City and Springfield is in the near, so it shouldn't be a big deal for you guys in this area to catch up with any (or why not both?) shows over there."
"3) The Detroit show was never any regular THERION show. Instead of having a day off we would be playing before TYPE O NEGATIVE, before their opening acts, and play some 30 min set or what ever. Due to what ever reasons, this won't be happening now and we'll have a day off and drive to the Niagara Falls instead."
"4) The tour we did in 2005 was not very successful due to us being overbooked with shows in areas where we don't do too well (which I pointed out before the tour, but I was talked into doing it) plus the fact that our tour bus broke down and we lost a bunch of shows." More...

Immolation Kick Off Tour With Suffocation
Legendary death metal titans IMMOLATION kick off a massive a month-long North American tour this week with SUFFOCATION and SKINLESS, which marks their first stateside trek in three years. Returning with the same lineup as their previous release, Harnessing Ruin, dubbed “the most skull-crushing of their entire necro-rompin’ career” by Revolver Magazine, the group finds itself uncharacteristically stable, allowing for chemistry not present in their formative years. Founding members Dolan and Robert Vigna (guitar) join Bill Taylor (guitar) and Steve Shalaty (drums) to form the group’s most consistently punishing lineup yet.
Robert Vigna further describes his excitement over the upcoming tour: “We are really looking forward to this SUFFOCATION tour. We haven’t been out in the states for a while now and we can’t wait! I think the lineup is really strong and the fact that it’s composed off all NY bands is something special that the kids have been waiting for. All the bands have their own style, so it’s going to be a great extreme show! More...

Ed Gein In Preproduction
Ed Gein is taking a much need break after successful summer tour with Genghis Tron and Gaza. “That tour was amazing… Both bands rule and are really great guys. Best tour we've done in a loooooong time” comments bassist Aaron Jenkins. Later this year Ed Gein will be working on a soon-to-be-announced split release before finishing the writing for their new album. ”We'll be back to writing our next full length [soon]. We aren't planning any tours for the time being. We need a retreat back to real life for a while so we can all keep our sanity, work on new songs... We'll be out touring again after the new full length comes out, but we'll probably do some weekends here and there in the meantime, maybe a week long run.” Ed Gein has posted lyrics to their forthcoming release on their MySpace page. If the lyrics are any indication, their newest effort will be as hard-hitting and brutal as previous releases.

Glenn Danzig Falls Off Stage In Baltimore?
Bob Suehs of Rock N Roll Experience has submitted the following report to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"I covered the opening night of the DANZIG tour in Baltimore, MD on October 23, 2007 and among other interesting things that happened that night, it was the first official performance of Doyle's [former MISFITS axeman Doyle Von Frankenstein] GORGEOUS FRANKENSTEIN and their set was plagued with problems. And then during DANZIG's set, Glenn fell off the stage during 'How the Gods Kill' and I have a pic of him getting back onstage after the fall... Also, Glenn was in a bad mood after the fall — he cut the show short and he nixed the MISFITS set with Doyle and was yelling at Todd Youth [guitar] the rest of the night telling him to slow down his playing. The story I was told from a security guard was that Glenn dislocated his shoulder, but I can't confirm that. However, he was hurt badly because he did not meet fans after the show... he ran directly to the bus and didn't come out. Randy from LAMB OF GOD and the singer from GOD FORBID were in attendance at the show as well."
Read Bob's report from last night's show — and check put photos — at Rock N Roll Experience.
DANZIG's current tour is in support of "The Lost Tracks of Danzig", the two-CD set that was released May 29, as well as Glenn's limited-edition book "Drukija, Contessa of Blood", loosely based on the legend of 17th century vampire Countess Elizabeth Bathory, and illustrated by long time collaborator Simon Bisley.
Sony Legacy will reissue the following five DANZIG albums on November 13:
"Danzig" (1988)
"Danzig II: Lucifuge" (1990)
"Danzig III: How the Gods Kill" (1992)
"Thrall - DemonSweatLive" (1993)
"Danzig IV" (1994)
The reissues are not expected to include any bonus tracks or new material.
As previously reported, DANZIG will release "The Lost Tracks of Danzig" as a limited-edition two-disc LP in a gatefold sleeve with an eight-page booklet. The exact release date has not yet been announced.
"The Lost Tracks" is comprised of 26 previously unreleased tracks that span Danzig's entire career and were originally recorded during the band's seven-album "arc" that began with 1988's "Danzig".
H.I.M. Frontman Claims To Have Been Beaten By Ex
reports that HIM frontman Ville Valo was almost forced to cancel his band's first major American tour after his ex-girlfriend beat him up.
The 30-year-old rocker was given a black eye by his former partner and suffered a burst ear drum at the hands of the unnamed woman.
He says, "She was a tough girl and she wasn't afraid to show it. She once punctured my ear-drum by screaming so loudly in my ear that it bled from the inside. If the hole in my ear had have been any bigger, I'd have had to go for surgery and our band would have missed their first major American tour.
"Violence is always pretty bad but it doesn't get any worse than being beaten up by a girl, does it?"
Sickening Horror Announce New Drummer
Greek extreme metallers SICKENING HORROR have announced the addition of drummer Yannis Theodorakis to the group's ranks. "Yannis is a very talented musician and a great guy and has contributed some fantastic stuff to our songs, present and future," the band writes in a statement. "He combines speed and groove in a very unique way. The rehearsals are devastating so far and we can't wait for our first gig!"
SICKENING HORROR released its new album, "When Landscapse Bled Backwards", on June 25 via Neurotic Records. The CD was mixed and mastered by Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, CANNIBAL CORPSE).
NILE drummer George Kollias quit SICKENING HORROR in February 2007. He stated at the time, "We had some major problems the last year and I feel I want no longer play in this band, so I take off on this bad timing since I lose all the good stuff that supposed to follow after the release of our first full-length album. I feel really sad about it after all these years of dedication and the hard work I did for this band…although I know I don't belong there anymore."

Ozzy Fan Denied Permission To Give Gift
Renato Gandia of the Canada's Sun Media reports: An Ozzy Osbourne superfan drove back to Peace River yesterday with a heavy heart after he failed Monday night to give the rocker a specially designed canoe paddle he spent many hours making.
Patrick Lesko, a 34-year-old veteran woodworker, said he's still a fan and he might try again when Ozzy goes to Toronto in January.
"I'm not gonna say, 'What a jerk,' " said Lesko while he took a rest in Fox Creek from driving to Peace River, 484 km northwest of Edmonton. "I don't know what really happened.
"Do I still love BLACK SABBATH more than anything? Hell, yeah. Honestly as much as I love Ozzy, I love BLACK SABBATH."
Lesko said he was able to bring the paddle to the coat check at Rexall Place, but that's as far as it got.
"I was hoping that I would be able to get to the meet-and-greet, but I didn't realize that's before the show, not after."
He went to Rexall Place at 3 p.m. on Monday to try to give Ozzy the paddle.
"I was disappointed. It was a huge investment of time and energy that went into making the paddle."
Lesko said he couldn't snap up a $1,000 backstage package for the show before they sold out and his calls to Ozzy's tour management company in California went unreturned. He paid $750 for a front-row seat to the concert.
If he can't give it to Ozzy in Toronto, Lesko's not sure what to do with the otter tail-style paddle carved out of solid Canadian black cherry.
It took Lesko 25 hours to make it and is worth an estimated $500.
Despised Icon Frontman Talks About European Tour
DESPISED ICON vocalist Alex Erian has commented on the band's upcoming European tour with MISERY INDEX as well as BENEATH THE MASSACRE, MAN MUST DIE (mainland Europe only), and ANNOTATIONS OF AN AUTOPSY (UK only).
"After months of planning, this tour is finally coming together!" he said. We can’t wait to tour Europe and the UK again and share the tour bus and stage everyday with MISERY INDEX and our homies from Montreal, BENEATH THE MASSACRE! I think we haven't played with any of those dudes in at least a year, should be sick. Make sure you come early to check out ANNOTATIONS OF AN AUTOPSY and MAN MUST DIE; two killer bands. Thanks to our buddy Marco (Avocado Booking) for working hard on this.
"We have about 70 shows lined-up in Canada, USA, UK and Europe in the next 4 months and will be taking a short break after that to write part of the next album so make sure you show up to the nearest show!
"Our new video for the track 'Furtive Monologue' will premiere on our MySpace November 1st. In the meantime, check out the trailer we just posted for the video [below]."
DESPISED ICON recently completed a fourth tour of North America in support of its highly acclaimed new album "The Ills of Modern Man". The band will cap off an extremely successful year as part of the "Crashing Through the Holidays" tour alongside THE ACACIA STRAIN, FULL BLOWN CHAOS and the TONY DANZA TAPDANCE EXTRAVAGANZA, which kicks off on November 24. This will be preceded by an extensive Canadian run on the Canadian tour with THE LOCUST.
Monster Magnet Singer Talks Solo Album And More
Metal Hammer Germany recently conducted an interview with MONSTER MAGNET singer Dave Wyndorf.
While talking about the band's new album, 4-Way Diablo, and his peculiar lyrics, Dave revealed his plans for the near future.
According to Dave, he has three plans right now:
1. Finishing his album with movie-soundtracks. There is no film actually that uses his tunes, but it shall be film-music anyway.
2. Completing a solo record. Release date and album title are not confirmed yet, but it shall consists of peculiar and small songs. A lot with piano and somehow similar to Monster Magnet's smaller and mellower songs.
3. Finish another Monster Magnet record, as the songs on 4-Way Diablo are basically two years old. A heart attack after an overdose of pills had forced him to take a time out.
Tony Iommi Discusses Possible Ozzy Reunion Tour
Manchester Evening News has issued the following report from Paul Taylor:
It seems as if one should approach TONY IOMMI with Wayne's World-style deference, muttering "We're not worthy".
After all, this is the man who virtually invented the heavy metal guitar riff, and put the macabre dark side into rock. Guitar anoraks also know him as one of the first to use slippery light strings and as the pioneer of `de-tuning' - slackening the instrument's strings to create the growlier tone young metal bands have since copied.
"'Ello Paul," Iommi chirps, Brummie accent as well-preserved as that of old mucker OZZY OSBOURNE, his manner devoid of any rock star attitude. A few months short of his 60th birthday, Iommi has been a denizen of the dark side of rock for nearly 40 years, but you wouldn't guess it from his chummy banter. Is he ready to serve yet another decade as riffmeister supreme?
"I was asked that question 40 years ago and I probably gave the same answer{hellip} I don't know," says Iommi. "I enjoy playing. I like to be on stage, but the getting there is another thing. I hate the travelling. When you're 20 it's fantastic."
Iommi is back on the road again, not as BLACK SABBATH but as HEAVEN AND HELL, with RONNIE JAMES DIO fronting what is essentially the 1979-82 incarnation of Sabbath. So why not simply call it a Black Sabbath gig?
"If we'd gone out as Black Sabbath, I think people would have expected us to do 'Iron Man', 'Paranoid', all that stuff," says Iommi. "I thought it would be different to go out under another name and play the stuff we'd done with Ronnie."
Dio had been the replacement when Ozzy was first asked to leave Sabbath in the throes of his drink and drug problems.
"It certainly wasn't just Ozzy on his own," Iommi reflects of those torrid times. "But he was probably the worst out of the lot of us. We were all in a little bit of a state at that time."
Sabbath had a string of different singers down the years, while Ozzy forged his own successful solo career. Then in 1997, the original Sabbath line-up reunited and toured sporadically. What chance another Ozzy-fronted tour?
"Everything's a possibility," says Iommi, who lives in Lapworth, Warwickshire. "I talk to Ozzy a lot - once a week. He always stays in touch. I know there's a lot of talk out there about an album, and also a tour. It would be nice - a final tour of Black Sabbath."
Megadeth Mainman Checks In
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:
"Well, as if the making of the Gigantour 2006 DVD wasn't stressful enough, this morning in Indonesia, where I am en route to at the moment, had another 6.0 earthquake.
I can only laugh at this point, because I know we are on to something here. There is no way all of these trials and tribulations are just coincidences.
The thing is, nothing can stop us from delivering the goods once we are in your country, and in your towns. Of course there are things that come up, but once we are there - we are THERE!
Last night was a testament to that. We used a rented drum set, rented bass and guitar amps, rented speaker cabinets, rented in-ear monitors, and rented lights and sound.
When you have that much unfamiliarity with your gear, and that's not including the cultural differences and language barrier - either you are going down in flames or you are going to be on-fire!
Last night . . . we were on fire!
From the moment we set foot on the soil of this mystical country that was once known as Siam (Siamese cats?!?!), I knew we were in for a once-in-a-lifetime treat!!!
First off let me say, I would love to play Thailand again, and I hope that going forward we can make Bangkok a staple of our routing through the Pacific Rim.
I found our promoter to be very gracious and a fantastic host, and I look forward to playing for them again and again.
And now, the audience; what can I say, but WOW!
The place was packed and although it said capacity of ____, it looked way better than that and I pray that the promoter was as stoked as I was with the turn out.
Of course I am sure we could have packed one or two more people (skinny ones) :-) in there, but for our first time, it was spectacular.
Leading up to the show was excruciatingly long. I worked out Monday and Tuesday in the gym, and had a stellar massage to get the knots out.
I was in perfect health and feeling flexible and very fit, and I knew this was going to be one of those magical shows. You could just feel the anticipation from the promoters excellent staff. And even though things come up often that are wrong, it is the good ones that make it right and I didn't even sound check it was so smooth.
We started with our usual opener of 'Sleepwalker' and when the intro tape started, I knew, I knew it was going to be a night that the respectable Thai Metal Contingency would not be disappointed in.
Of course we wined and dined, and saw some sights, but I doubt if anything would top the 'I just clogged the toilet' look I had on my face when I tried to get the punters to say, 'F*#@ YEAH' in Thailand's native tongue.
I have no idea if they said, 'F*#@ YEAH" or "F*#@ YOU!' but I did see a lot of beautiful smiling faces and it seemed like there were many different nationalities in attendance.
We had our MegaFanClub winner meet with us before the show while we were flexing our Metal Muscles and it seemed like a blink of an eye and it was over and I was on my way back to the hotel.
I believe that we made a lot of friends, and that we convinced a lot of haters that Megs is for real. And now as I type this on my cell, somewhere over the ocean on the way to Indonesia, I can only hope that God will spare any more devastation for my fellow Californians and especially my friends and neighbors.
In less two hours I will be with our promoter from the first and only time we have played in Indo. I am excited to be going back to work for the promoter, and very excited about playing for the Indonesian Metal Heads, but I still am floating on air from the reception we got, the faces of the fans that were there, and the fantastic treatment by our promoter in Thailand.
We are going to have another press conference here and since we played Medan last time and are playing Jakarta this time, I am set for many more exciting and exotic sights and experiences.
I want everyone in Thailand to know how much we love you and loved playing for you, and I want to invite you to call us on our SayNow cell phone numbers (619) 717-2000 to keep the fire burning until we can grace your lovely nation once again.
And lastly, my respect and best wishes for a healthy and full recovery to the king of Thailand, who is currently in hospital. As they say, "long live the king!"
This is it for now and pray for rain would ya?"
New Game To Feature Metal Legends
According to Gamesarefun.com, Tim Schafer, helmsman of Double Fine Productions, announced his next project recently. Brütal Legend will focus on metal roadie Eddie Riggs and his Tour Of Destruction through a mystical world of rock and roll legend. The game's setting will fuse modern metal and Norse mythology. Brütal Legend already has several big and fitting names behind the voice talent. MOTÖRHEAD founder Lemmy Kilmister, JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Rob Halford, and HEAVEN AND HELL's Ronnie James Dio will all lend their wailing pipes to the game.
November's issue of Game Informer features a cover story on Brütal Legend that reveals interesting details. In the article, Schafer talked about the origins for the game. Way back when he was working on Secret of Monkey Island, Schafer had a friend that lived as a roadie for MEGADETH. His larger than life stories gave birth to the idea, which can now become a full fledged game.
It will be available for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 sometime in 2008. A Brütal Legend trailer can be viewed below: More...

Queensryche To Record New Album In March
Komodo Rock recently conducted an interview with QUEENSRŸCHE frontman Geoff Tate. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
Komodo Rock: With the UK tour in December, what can fans expect from the show? With it being a co headlining spot with THIN LIZZY. Will you be bringing a big stage show or will it be quite toned down?
Tate: I think it will be more concentrating on the music, because we haven't toured in some of the cities that we will be playing for so many years. I think it's a good idea to expose people to selections from all the different records. The problem that we have is that we have so many darn songs. With so many records it's always difficult to figure out what we play live.
Komodo Rock: And what people want to hear?
Tate: Yeah, it's almost impossible. We can't of course play everything. It's difficult for us to decide what to play. We have a sort of betting pool going on in the band. Someone will pick a song to play then inevitably someone will say, "I'm tired of playing that song, let's play this one." There's a sort of political pop string going on trying to get the songs that you want to play on the set list.
Komodo Rock: That must be quite fun though in a roundabout way. To keep things sort of interesting for you guys?
Tate: Yeah. What we found kinda works, we keep changing the set list. We have songs that we always include and then we keep rotating other songs.
Komodo Rock: That would be good for the fans that are seeing more than one show on the tour. Do you find that you have a lot of people that do that? Come to multiple shows on the tour?
Tate: Yeah. We do actually. Through our website, our chat board and all that. They all kinda meet in clubs, pubs and restaurants then kinda carpool. It's interesting to see what people do, you know. We try to make it fun for them as well. We usually meet with people after the show and we have winners from our website where you get to meet the band. We get a whole mix of people every night. It's fun to hear the fans prospectus on the music.
Komodo Rock: That's really good. It's good to see bands really taking an interest in their fans as well. I think that's commendable in a lot of ways.
Tate: I was very surprised that a lot of bands don't do that. I've been finding out over the years we are one of the few that do that kinda thing. I actually really enjoy it. I like talking to people. I hear all kinds of interesting stories. Not just about our music but what people are going though. What their political beliefs are. We've met a lot of interesting people throughout the years that way.
Komodo Rock: When you took the HEAVEN AND HELL tour in the summer you interrupted work on the new album. Is there any more news on that at the moment?
Tate: Yeah. We've actually been working on it this week while we've been at home. We're finishing up the writing sessions for it and if all goes well we should start recording it in March. That's our plan. Then hopefully have the record ready towards the end of summer for release. We are also planning a big stage show for it sometime in the fall or early winter next year.
Komodo Rock: That will be a tour starting in America presumably, then going on from there?
Tate: I'm not sure if we are going to start in America this time. It's kinda too early to tell.
Komodo Rock: No that's cool. So when you are writing, is it a collaborative deal for you guys or do you write individual songs then bring them to the table and go he this is what I've got, what do you guys think?
Tate: Well, kinda both. Usually it's one or two people that get together and have an idea about something then they sort of spearhead the whole project, you know. Then everybody kinda comes in at different times and does their thing. Some people get more involved than others, depending on the record it is. The last couple of years the band has really been on a creative roll. We've been really busy writing music and recording it. It's a good time to be in the band. Everybody is very happy. All our personal lives are good which tends to make a good creative atmosphere.
God Forbid Post Update On New Album And More
New Jersey metal titans GOD FORBID have issued the following update:
"We just got back home from Europe last Wednesday. I've had a few days to sleep, and now I can finally give everyone a little update pertaining to all things GOD FORBID.
"First off, the DEVILDRIVER European tour was incredible. All of the shows were packed whether we were playing a small place or a big place. For the first time, we felt like we were starting to make a real impact in mainland Europe outside of the UK.
"I definitely have to thank the DEVILDRIVER guys for bringing us out there. It may be the best or at least most fun we've had on a European tour. I think I actually had too much fun, and certainly drank too much. I think I need a break from fun and drinking for a while. We'll see how long that lasts. I also have to give props to the opening bands, THE SORROW, who opened the mainland part of the tour, and MALEFICE and SOLITUDE who opened the UK dates. They are all kick ass and show lots of promise for the future. Highlights for me were Amsterdam, Munich, Belgium, Zurich, Cologne with Killswitch, Portsmouth, Manchester and London.
"In regards to the next GOD FORBID CD, this week we will resume the writing process for the new GOD FORBID album, and everyone is really jazzed to write. I think a good tour can be inspiration.
"The upcoming DVD is coming along very smoothly. Dave Brodsky just sent us rough cut edits of two songs from the concert, and I have to say it looks fucking incredible. Not to talk shit, but from what I've seen of some recent metal DVDs, our DVD is going to blow alot of the competition out of the water. So save your pennies, because that shit is gonna be hot! We also have some shows in the area with our friends UNEARTH at the end of the year. Those should be some fun shows. We may adding some more shows around X-mas, so keep your ears open."
As previously reported, GOD FORBID will support UNEARTH at two East Coast dates in December. The band has also scheduled a headlining show in West Springfield, Virginia. The details are as follows:
Dec. 05 - Jaxx – West Springfield, VA
Dec. 07 - Mainstage - Pompton Lakes, NJ (w/ UNEARTH)
Dec. 08 - The Living Room - Providence, RI (w/ UNEARTH)
Terror Frontman Talks New EP And More
Mark Carras of RockMyMonkey.com recently conducted an interview with TERROR vocalist Scott Vogel. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
On releasing the group's new EP via Reaper Records:
"Well, there's a few reasons. First of all, he's one of my best friends. We've been signed to Trustkill Records, which is an independent label, but on a larger scale. We've put out three records with them. We've fulfilled our contract. We're free right now to sign with whatever label we want, which is kind of exciting. But we just wanted to put out an EP on, if anyone knows about Reaper Records, it's a tiny label. So we just wanted to do something kind of on a smaller scale. It's just kind of for fun. We recorded it in our drummer's studio. We just kind of did it going in with the vibe of just like kind of when the band started, without worrying about how great the distribution would be, or blah, blah, blah. We just put it out with our friend, and did it with a real positive attitude."
On being unique within the hardcore scene:
"I would definitely say our live show is a step above the energy and, I guess the madness that ensues at our live show is a step above most bands. Unique. I think TERROR is definitely a band that definitely holds on to the traditions of hardcore, and where it started, the sound, you know. We definitely respect and learn from a lot of the bands that started this. As where today a lot of bands that call themselves hardcore don't even know, I guess, what that means. But within that we also, there's definitely a metal sound to TERROR. We incorporate a lot of things from outside the hardcore scene. We're definitely not closed-minded. I think one thing that we can do that's unique is play to any sort of crowd. We've toured with BEHEMOTH. We've toured with… I could go through a whole list of bands we've toured with. But we go out there and play to any type of person anywhere at any time. We're not trying to fit into any certain mold. We'll always be a hardcore band, but you know, we definitely go against the grain in a lot of aspects. And I think there's… I don't know, I can't pinpoint where it is. But there's something about the band that all sorts of genres can take interest in."
Most personal song on the new EP, "Rhythm Against The Chaos":
"You know, it's hard for me to pick out one song. I'm really happy with the lyrics on the whole thing. I wouldn't write a song that I don't think is important to me personally. Or some of the songs we write are more reaching out, not so much personal, but definitely I think something that hardcore does that's different than all forms of music is if you don't have lyrics that are saying something then I don't think you're a hardcore band. You're just a rock band or something. So you know, I'll just take the first track, because it's the first track. The song is 'Rhythm Amongst The Chaos'. Basically what that's saying is a lot of people, like myself, that I meet in all forms of music growing up in this world, whether you're rich or poor, or live on the East Coast or the West Coast, or in Japan. A lot of the people I meet have a lot of hard things in their lives and a lot of confusion. And that song is just basically about finding music and traveling and finding all sorts of bands and what they're saying, and meeting people through music, and kind of finding a world underneath the ugly world we live in, and kind of finding music as an escape to get away from all the bullshit."
The cover song "Kick Back":
"You know, the reason we actually picked that is that at our first couple of shows, maybe our first three shows ever, we covered that song. And BREAKDOWN is a band, the band that wrote the song is a band that we really like. And getting Vinnie from JEDI MIND TRICKS who is a hip hop group out of Philadelphia that… The way we met them, is I'm not sure exactly how it started, but we did a track, a remix of one of their songs, maybe two years ago. And Vinnie is someone we like to hang out with. He's got kind of the same attitude we do. He definitely is really into a lot of the same music that we are. So to have him actually… he's never, as far as I know, he's never like screamed or sang to heavy music. He's an M.C., he's a rapper. To have him do it was really cool, and it came out amazingly. He needs to start a band. His voice came out amazing."
On downloading:
"It's kind of a fine line, where I'm torn between being in a band. I've definitely always been the type of person that you know, I've been in a lot of bands that put out demos, and just want people to hear the music I make. I never really got into this thinking I was going to be rich. But it's kind of scary that to take for instance this new EP. It's online available for download now, and it's not even out yet. I think it's cool that people can get our music so easily, especially in places like when we go to South America or Mexico and people really can't actually afford it, that they can download it and have our music. I think that's cool. But I think it's just wrong that you put so much hard work and a label pays, I don't know, ten, twenty, a hundred thousand dollars for a recording, and people just take it. I don't know. I think it's great that more people come out to our shows and know our songs, but I really wouldn't mind being compensated for all the hard work and time and effort that goes into writing a song. Another thing that I hate about it is, lyrics now, no one gets lyrics. When people download a record, they just have the music and they can kind of make out the lyrics, but no one reads lyrics anymore or pays attention. It's just watered down to music, and that to me is a horrible thing. I think it's going to come down to where bands, if they care, need to start like making photocopies of their lyrics and having them at their merch table, or posting them online and stuff like that, so people-music to me-I listen to all sorts of music. I listen to a lot of rap crap that has nothing to say. Not to say that there isn't hip hop that has a really lot of wonderful things to say, but a lot of crap. But you know the music that means the most to me is something that is saying something. So I think that's really getting lost with downloading."

In a brand new interview with ChartAttack.com, NIGHTWISH keyboardist and main songwriter Tuomas Holopainen stated about the band's popularity on the American continent, "In North America, our success has been more underground. There has been a cult following for a few years now, and it's looking really good because the new album went to the charts, like 24, in Canada and the U.S., which is really good for a band like this.
"But in Europe it's going really well. I think we hit number one in six countries with this new album.
"I think the whole North American scene is a challenge because, for a European band, it's the hardest market for music there is in the world. So if you can have success here, that's an accomplishment."
Holopainen also broke down why so many people have embraced NIGHTWISH's music like this:
"Our music is very diverse," he said. "There's the real heavy stuff, there's a lot of ballads as well, and the hybrid of orchestra with guitars, so it's a little bit for everybody, I guess.
"I think it's the honesty of the music. We've never followed any trends. We've always done things our own way. People have inner feelings when they sense what's real and what's not. Even though we are kind of childish and kind of a naive band, there is a lot of honesty, and that's what people can appreciate."
NIGHTWISH kicked off its current U.S. tour on October 15 at Jaxx in West Springfield, Virginia.
The band's mainman Tuomas Holopainen told a Finnish TV station that NIGHTWISH has just finished shooting the third video from its latest CD, "Dark Passion Play". The clip for an as-yet-undisclosed song was shot in Rovaniemi, Finland with director Tuomas "Stobe" Harju. Ilkka Immonen of Lapland Studio Oy produced the video.
Soul Takers Split With Guitarist And Drummer
Italy's SOUL TAKERS have announced that "due to personal reasons", guitarist Francesca and drummer Mauro have left the band. As a result, the band are now searching for a drummer and guitarist in order to solidify their line-up and promote their new album, "Flies In A Jar", in a live setting.
Gorgoroth To Continue As A Duo
GORGOROTH vocalist Gaahl has posted this statement on the band's official website:
"I have registered some concern from friends and fans about the upcoming European tour in November because of the last day’s happenings. I can guarantee that the tour will go on as scheduled.
GORGOROTH has not split up but continued on in a different form. We will do this tour in honor of our working partners, booking agency, promoters and the audience who already bought tickets to the concerts. The alternative would be cancellation, which under no circumstance would I allow at this point in time.
Originally I had the intension of leaving Infernus (guitar) with some sort of integrity. The way this case has developed I have no other choice but to reveal some of the reasons why I can no longer work with him.
First and foremost, it’s the disrespect he has shown our working partners; record labels, session-musicians, promoters (by sending unserious demands in raiders etc.) and producers we have worked with over the years which has lead to this decision.
In addition, he has not been a creative force for the last eight years. He has shown no interest in the art defining GORGOROTH during that same period of time. He has not shown up for rehearsals and has broken agreements on several occasions. This is also an important reason in explaining why he is not part of GORGOROTH at the time being. He has broken the codex of honor and is not living by his own rules, the rules he set for himself and his surroundings on all levels.
I have tried for several years my best to continue in the original form in hopes for a change and I have done so in honor of his previous work in GORGOROTH and the fact that he is the founding member. I`ve hoped that he would become the artist he once was several years ago and I’ve realized that it will never happen. It’s gotten to a point were King and I can’t create a fire as long as someone is there pouring water over it.
I`m not personally involved in the formal part of this, but we have prepared for any given result of this matter. I know our partners have worked on our behalf preparing for what we knew would happen, for example, preparing the legal name copyright and other formal tasks. I’ll let the lawyers on both sides argue as much as they want. What is the truth is the truth - and whoever claims otherwise is a false prophet and will be treated accordingly.
We have reached the conclusion to continue GORGOROTH as a duo because the alternative would be no GORGOROTH at all at this time. King (bass) and I have given GORGOROTH content for the last eight years and will bring our art with us into the future. We are already on our way to start a new and improved area of our work. You will, in the following weeks, be presented our agenda to continue to spread true Norwegian Black Metal through recordings and concerts. We will, with or without the name GORGOROTH, raise the flame higher and brighter than ever.
The past defines the future, but sometimes you must leave something behind to be able to grow."
All That Remains Frontman Posts Blog Online
ALL THAT REMAINS vocalist Phil Labonte recently submitted the following to Headbanger's Blog:
"There’s really only a handful of things I care much about: my band, Halo, Marlboros, Jim Beam, Red Bull, and Liberty.
Lets talk about freedom. What is freedom and what does being free imply? Freedom isn’t given. It doesn’t come from being American, British, Canadian, or being from any other 'free' country. It is the natural state that all creatures are born into. The only time freedom is taken away is when it benefits someone or something else to take it. Yet every day, people all over the world give up their freedom in small doses.
To arbitrarily give up your freedom, even in small amounts, invites despotism and tyranny. And it doesn’t take long. Hitler took power in less than a generation, and were it not for the people from many other nations who took a stand, he may have taken over all of Europe. Thomas Jefferson said, 'All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.' Few statements have been truer.
Your government (any government) is the first establishment that will try to take your freedoms. Every piece of legislation that is passed takes a little bit of your freedom away. Thomas Paine, author of Common Sense said, 'Society in any state is a blessing. Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.' Freedom needs to be protected by all who have it and by any means necessary.
Attacks on freedom come from everywhere and are usually in the guise of what’s best for society, but what’s best for society is freedom — the freedom to do what you want with your life and not have to ask the government if its okay; the freedom to say what you believe without someone saying you can’t think that way. We see it every day on TV. People with unpopular opinions or politically incorrect views are shunned. That’s not freedom. Again I’ll quote Thomas Paine: 'He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from opposition; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach himself.' Liberty is not only for the popular opinion, but for all opinions.”
Protect your freedom, speak your mind, let no one take liberty from you."
Queensryche Frontman Talks New Live DVD
QUEENSRŸCHE frontman Geoff Tate spoke to Komodorock.com recently about a number of topics including the newly-released Mindcrime At The Moore CD/DVD. Here are a few excerpts from the chat:
Komodorock.com: With the Mindcrime tour you just did, you put out the DVD Mindcrime At The Moore here in the UK quite recently. How pleased are you with how that has turned out?
Tate: "Very pleased. I think it’s the best live DVD we have ever made. A lot of planning went into that, a lot of work on the production. Then putting it all together took months."
Komodorock.com: I think that shows on the final product.
Tate: "Yeah it turned out really good. I’m very pleased with it."
Komodorock.com: You have a lot of superimposing of what is going on the video screens. That’s pretty special, it gives the impression of what it is like in the audience. You don’t always get that on live DVD’s.
Tate: "Yeah it’s a really special DVD. I think the fans have really embraced it. They will continue to find things in it that are interesting to see."
Komodorock.com: With the UK tour in December, what can fans expect from the show? With it being a co headlining spot with THIN LIZZY. Will you be bringing a big stage show or will it be quite toned down?
Tate: "I think it will be more concentrating on the music, because we haven’t toured in some of the cities that we will be playing for so many years. San Diego's MOWER has been added to the upcoming DIECAST tour starting in Cleveland, OH on November 13 and ending on December 8 in Farmington, NM.
Commented MOWER frontman Brian Sheerin: "Thanks to DIECAST for taking MOWER out of Southern California for a little while. It's just not safe here anymore with all the drunken actresses driving around with no panties on. We need to get the hell out of here now. If I see one more hot blonde with big breasts in a convertible, I'm going to throw up. Actually, that was a lie, I just made that up to make this release more interesting. Seriously though, this DIECAST tour is a gift and we're really thankful for the dates. MOWER needed a good heavy tour and now we've got one."

Adrift Post New Song Online
ADRIFT, the Tampa-based heavy rock band featuring Jack Owen of DEICIDE/CANNIBAL CORPSE fame, has posted a song from its new full-length album, "Absolution". Check out the track "Back to Square One" at this location.
"Absolution" was recorded by David Burrill at The Sample Factory in Youngsville, NC, was mixed by Mark Lewis at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, FL, and was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New Windsor, NY.
Jack Owen previously stated about "Absolution", "It took a little longer than we expected [to finish the CD] due to Mark Lewis (of AudioHammer Studios) being a very meticulous, detail-oriented guy. He really put in a lot of hard work and hours on our album, and he wouldn't let anything leave the studio without it sounding 100% killer, which it does. The mix is very big and open, while retaining a modern sound — and my guitars sound huge! In fact, I am happy to say that out of any album I have recorded in my career, I am most proud of this ADRIFT record, the songs are incredible, we captured great performances from all band members, and having Mark handle the mix was the proverbial icing on the cake. It is by far the best record I have ever done, and I can't wait for it to be released to see what people think of it. More...
