Exodus Guitarist Updates On New Album

Exodus guitarist Gary Holt posted a message on the official Exodus website:

Just wanted to say a quick word. Fired up for the release date (of The Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A), it can't come quick enough. Been doing press all day, every day, and while my ear hurts from holding a fucking piece of plastic to it hours on end, the response to the album has surpassed anything we could have hoped for. It's going over huge with every one I've talked to who's heard the record. Me, I haven't listened to it in a couple of months. I sick of that, I want to play these bastards live! Now if I can only find time between all the press and shit to get back to song writing, I'll be happy. And I'll see some of you soon in South America!

Chris Volz To Tour In Support of Solo Effort

Chris Volz, formerly of FLAW and the recently-disbanded Five.Bolt.Main, will kick off his tour this weekend in support of his solo album, “Redemption,” which was just released on September 11th on Rock Ridge Music. So far, dates are planned through the month of October with more to come. Joining Volz in his touring band are: Taz Marazz, drums; Johnny Pisano, bass (who played on the album); and Jack Frost, guitar.

In commenting on “Redemption,” Volz says: “The lyrics on this record are very personal. I don’t sing about anything I haven’t felt or don’t mean. Personally, this record was my turn to grab the reins. This album is, with no offense meant to any of my former bandmates, the chance to do everything I’ve always wanted to do.” The recording process took two weeks, the fastest recording experience of Volz’s career. “I have never recorded that expediently. The musicians we worked with were extremely professional and productive. It all flowed very well and everything fell right into place.”

Joining Volz in the studio for said recording experience were Matt Chiaravalle (Kittie, Crossbreed, Warren Zevon) and Jason Spiewak (Five.Bolt.Main) in both production capacity and as players on the record. Also performing on the record were: Danny Schuler (Biohazard), Chris Vitali (Orange 9mm), Johnny Pisano (Ryan Adams, Marky Ramone, Jesse Malin), and Rich Smalley (The NightRats, Looker).

Strung Out Has Van, Gear Stolen In Philadelphia

California's Strung Out had their van, trailer, equipment, etc. stolen yesterday in Philadelphia. Drummer Jordan Burns has posted the following information via the group's website:

"So our van and trailer just got stolen from our hotel here in Philly around 7 30am. We had just checked in and no more then 20 minutes later, Chris happen to look out the window and see our van driving out. Sure enough, it was skidrow motherfucker ripping it off. So we have lost ALL of our equipment, all of our merch, tons of personal stuff and we are pretty much fucked and stuck in a shitty Days Inn in a fucked up part of town in Philly. There was a double homicide 2 blocks down the road that we were watching about on TV so ya, not a nice part of town at all. Anyhow, if you live in Philly, please be on the look out for our van and trailer. Its a light blue ford E 350 15 passenger van with a white trailer with white rims. There is a bull skull mounted on the front of the grill. We are trying to think what to do. We will figure out how the show must go on though because we for sure dont want to or are we thinking about canceling the tour. We have a lot to figure out here."

Abysmal Dawn Enters The Studio, Gives Update

Vocalist/guitarist, Charles Elliott, of the Los Angeles-based extreme metal band ABYSMAL DAWN, recently offered an update on the progress of their upcoming sophomore release:

"We're running a little behind schedule, but we'll be entering John Haddad's (EYES OF FIRE, INTRONAUT) new studio in Corona, CA on November 2nd to start churning out some punishing new tunes. Lately we've been rehearsing like mad men trying to get everything perfect. The songs are a bit more challenging to say the least but we wouldn't have it any other way! A lot of the newer material is in the 250 bpm range and we may even push it further if we're feeling crazy enough haha! Expect some faster stuff as well as some slightly longer epic songs this time around. We've been shredding away trying to write some jaw dropping leads for you guys as well. When it's all laid down to tape hopefully we turn a few heads and gain a few more fans in the process. I think it's pretty safe to say that this one is going to top "From Ashes" but we'll let you be the judge of that. Wish us luck!"

ABYSMAL DAWN's debut album, "From Ashes", was released in April 2006 via Crash Music Inc. It was engineered, mixed and mastered by John Haddad at Shiva Industries. The band toured in support of that album
this past fall alongside SIX FEET UNDER, KRISIUN and DECAPITATED. ABYSMAL DAWN has also played with reunited black metal legends EMPEROR and IMMORTAL.

Megadeth Frontman To Appear On "Alex Jones Show"

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine will guest on today's (Friday, October 5) edition of "The Alex Jones Show" to discuss politics and music. The interview is especially interesting due to Alex Jones' highly controversial stand on (and exposure of) government-sponsored terror, the elite's alleged plan to exterminate 80 percent of the population of the earth and so on. The show airs at 12 p.m. (noon) EST and can be heard live via the Internet at InfoWars.com.

As previously reported., MEGADETH's "Warchest" 4-CD+DVD collection has had its release date pushed back to October 9 from the previously announced October 2. No reason was given for the delay.

"Warchest" (Capitol/EMI) features more than six hours of digitally remastered content, hand-selected by Dave Mustaine, including 30 audio and video tracks making their global release debuts, and an additional three tracks that have never before been released in the U.S. "Warchest"'s release caps Mustaine and Capitol/EMI's in-depth MEGADETH catalog remastering and restoration campaign, which has encompassed the band's Capitol studio albums, while also adding new audio and video collections to the band's arsenal.

Armed with digitally remastered career-defining album cuts, soundtrack and compilation sides, unreleased live and studio performances and interview clips spanning more than 20 years, "Warchest" is the ultimate MEGADETH compendium. Included in the trove are a full 75-minute live set from a night on the 1990 "Clash of the Titans" tour and a DVD of highlights from a 1992 stop supporting "Countdown To Extinction" — two historical shows, both making their release debuts on "Warchest". The set's custom "vac-u-form" packaging showcases a 3-D ammo belt on its front and a 36-page booklet with an essay by Ian Christe and a comprehensive discography, complemented by an array of photos and images.

Legendary San Francisco Bay Area thrashers FORBIDDEN will reunite for several shows in 2008. Russ Anderson (vocals), Craig Locicero (guitar), Paul Bostaph (drums), Matt Camacho (bass) and Glen Alvelais (guitar) will bring something that so many of their peers, old-school fans and especially the younger generation of fans that never got to see FORBIDDEN live have been asking for: a true FORBIDDEN reunion!

"We want to show everyone what we used to do was as relevant and powerful as anybody else of that era," Locicero said in a statement released to BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "The gravity of our influence is really dawning on us now and we're very humbled. We owe it in turn back to those who supported our influenced us in the past. We'll be concentrating mostly on 'Forbidden Evil' [1988] and 'Twisted into Form' [1990] material to give the people what they want. The time is right and it's gonna be a lot of fun. 2008 will also be the 20th anniversary for the release 'Forbidden Evil'. It'll be VERY HEAVY and we're all excited to get started."

Added drummer Paul Bostaph: "Though out the years I've been asked about FORBIDDEN by many people. Fans and friends alike have been wanting to see us play live again. I'm very happy to see this become a reality! I've been honored to play in some great bands. To play with Craig, Glenn, Matt and Russ (a truly great vocalist) again will be a longtime wish come true. I hope FORBIDDEN fans get a kick outta this as much as I will!"

FORBIDDEN is looking to book one Bay Area show for late January early February and look into some festivals in Europe, Japan and Australia starting in late May. These will all be exclusive gigs and there are no plans for a full-fledged tour, at least not in the immediate future. Locicero says, "We'll put our blood and guts into it and give it all we've got! Get ready to have your heads ripped off, motherfuckers!!!"

Dark Fortress Announce New Album Title

German black metal outfit DARK FORTRESS have successfully finished the vocal recordings for their new album. The band have issued the following update:

"At the moment guitarist V. Santura is working on the mix. We hereby would like to seize the opportunity to clarify two things:
1. Our new frontman Morean is not the singer, but the guitarist of the band NONEUCLID! The vocal styles of NONEUCLID and Dark Fortress are actually quite different.
2. The forthcoming album, which initially was entitled Scum, is now named Eidolon. The musical compositions remained, but new lyrics and vocal lines have been written and arranged. Eidolon is a concept album which in its nine chapters describes the initiation, dehumanization and unearthly rebirth of a transcending soul by mirror magic and astral projection.

Furthermore, Dark Fortress are confirmed for Metalcamp Festival 2008 (July 4th-6th, 2008) in Tolmin, Slovenia."
