Paradise Lost Issue European Tour Video Report

A four-minute European tour report from Nick Holmes and Greg MacIntosh of the UK-based doom/gothic metal pioneers PARADISE LOST can be viewed here.

PARADISE LOST recently released the video for the song "Praise Lamented Shade", taken from the band's latest CD, "In Requiem", which was issued via Century Media Records in May 2007. The clip was filmed during PARADISE LOST's April 2007 show at Koko in London (a concert which was filmed for an upcoming DVD) and was directed by Dash Productions (who worked with people such as STEVEN SEAGAL, GARY NUMAN, LEVEL 42, PAUL RODGERS, RICK ASTLEY, HEAVEN 17, THE DAMNED, MARC ALMOND, DEXY'S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS and many more).

"In Requiem" is finally available on vinyl again. As the limited 4 x 7" box (2,000 copies) was sold out in the first week of release, Century Media Records and PARADISE LOST have decided to release the album as a vinyl LP, too. It contains the regular album tracks and comes in heavy cardboard gatefold cover, including a newly designed poster. More...

Society 1 Frontman Comments On Paul Raven's Death

SOCIETY 1 frontman Matt Zane has issued the following statement regarding the passing of legendary bassist Paul Raven (MINISTRY, PRONG, SOCIETY 1, KILLING JOKE, GODFLESH, MOB RESEARCH):

"Paul Raven was the most stand-up guy I ever had the pleasure to work with. The thing about Raven is that after working together he made an effort in the following years to stay in touch even if it was just to drop you a quick message to let you know he was keeping an eye on you. That was the coolest thing about him. He respected you and made it a point to let you know that.

"With everything he has done with his career he didn't have to stay in contact or even admit his involvement with me and my band but that's what separated him in my eyes from all the other musicians I've had dealings with over the years. More...

Therion Mainman Issues Update

THERION mainman Christofer Johnsson has vowed to carry on with the group's North American tour even if vocalist singer Snowy Shaw (who shares the vocal duties with Thomas Vikström and two female singers) is forced to sit out a few dates due to his passport being stolen in San Francisco.

In a statement earlier today, Johnsson said, "Just want to correct was was just posted by Snowy. There is no risk at all that we will be canceling shows. He may lose a few shows, but we will carry on those without him with Thomas doing his vocal parts. Promoters and fans that travel far can be sure the shows will take place and the only reliable source for possible cancellations of shows is the official THERION web page."

Benediction Reform and Book Studio Time

Long-running British Death Metal legends BENEDICTION have posted the following statement on their MySpace page:

“OK, they’ve talked and talked about it for long enough. The boys will be going into the studio on November 21 (booked and confirmed!) to actually record the fucking album (Killing Music) at long last. It will be released at the end of March 2008 and a full tour will commence in April 2008 for God knows how long followed by as many festivals that will allow them to play!!! There will be at least 12 tracks on the final mix, maybe more, if the studio can keep them out of the bar for long enough. Let’s hope they manage to stay alive long enough to get in the studio considering the mayhem they cause by just popping out for a few drinks together!!! Get the ambulances ready, it’s gonna get messy.”

The line up of BENEDICTION consists of:

Dave Hunt – Vocals
Darren Brookes – Guitar
Peter Rew – Guitars
Frank Healy – Bass
Nicholas Barker – Drums

Infernus, guitarist of Norwegian black metallers GORGOROTH, has posted the following update:

“I am writing to inform you about the fact that there has been taken a decision to split up the band, Infernus on one side, Gaahl and King on the other. We can not continue working together any longer. What is still not agreed upon is who rightfully get to keep the band’s name, as it is both parts will to continue. Since this will be a question of legal affairs, I am afraid this might take time to get sorted out. I am sorry for that.”

The long running Finnish metallers TAROT founded by the Hietala brothers; guitarist Zachary and bassist/vocalist Marco (also of NIGHTWISH fame) are scheduled to release a DVD next spring, depending upon Marco’s touring commitments. “The (Tarot) guys are having a holiday now,” says the bassist. “When (Nightwish) has a week off in November (after the current US run), I will go to Kuopio, see the guys and check out how the editing is going. We filmed one of the last Finnish shows (Aug 17th, Rupla club). It will probably be released in May, maybe April, if we can get everything done. We’re doing two shows in Germany, as special guests of Nightwish, right before the end of this year. I’ll be doing two shows a night! It will be quite hectic days, but if Zakk Wlyde can do it, with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and OZZY… The guys would love to come to North America, but right now, that’s impossible, because (Nightwish) takes so much of my time.”

Valfeanor Release Debut Album

En Ny Tid, the new album from the Austrian band VALFEANOR, saw it’s release this week on the Black Tower Productions Label. Written by founder member Desderoth, and produced by Greg Marboe of PUNGENT STENCH and HOLLENTHON, En Ny Tid is the band’s first release, and contains nine tracks of epic black metal, including haunting melodic instrumentals.

Aside from Desderoth on bass and vocals, the band comprises Anaroth on guitars, Mergol on drums and former VISIONS OF ATLANTIS keyboard player Christopher Kamper. The band is currently looking to expand its touring line up with an additional guitarist, and a session keyboard player to cover for Kamper, whose commitments make touring difficult for him. Given the complicated bass riffs used by the band, the possibility of using a session bass player is also being considered, in order to allow Desderoth to concentrate on the vocals. More...

Therion's North American Dates In Jeopardy

THERION singer Snowy Shaw — who shares the vocal duties with Thomas Vikström (CANDLEMASS) and two female singers — has issued the following statement:

"As soon as THERION left the South American leg of the world tour and arrived at the hotel in the ghetto-like area Tenderloin, San Francisco, we all went to Taco Bell at the corner of the block where, after a big fat meal, I was stupid enough to forget my shoulder bag. In my bag was my passport including Japan visa, U.S. visa etc., 800 euros, Mac laptop, cell phone, iPod and in-ear monitor system besides all other stuff. I returned to the resturant 10-15 minutes later, but the staff hadn't seen anything. I talked to the big black security guy by the door who told me he saw two ugly mutherfuckers take off on a bicycle right after our posse left, and suggested I go down the street looking for them. which I did and discovered two guys in the dark by a garbage bin going over my bag… Seconds later, I ended up fighting the guys and while I wrestled one of them the other took off with my stuff. I then made a police report with minimal chances of recovering my belongings, and this of course caused a fucking disaster since I had my Japanese visa and U.S. visa in my passport. Now the whole remaining part of the tour is in jeopardy." More...

Methadrone sign to Foreshadow Productions

Foreshadow Productions welcomes Methadrone to their label with the following statement:

"We are extremely proud to announce the signing of a new artist to our label - excellent American project METHADRONE! The artist behind the project, Craig Pillard, is definitely not a new-comer to the music scene as he is known from his work in INCANTATION in the 90-ties and as a current bass player for EVOKEN. Under the METHADRONE moniker he explores doom / drone areas of the musical spectrum. His newest album entitled "Sterility" will be released in Spring of 2008, but already in November we are releasing a free internet single promoting the album. In the meantime check out a new track from the up-coming release entitled "Self Relinquishment" with guest vocals from David Galas, which is available on METHADRONE MySpace page."

Ministry Bassist Paul Raven Found Dead at 46

Ministry's bassist Paul Raven was found dead today [October 20th] in a private home in a small French village on the Swiss border. Initial reports indicate Raven's passing was due to a heart attack. Born in Wolverhampton UK on January 16, 1961, Paul Vincent Raven established himself with his work in the seminal post-punk/industrial group Killing Joke when, in 1982 he replaced the original bassist for the band, recording and touring with the group throughout its most commercially successful period, performing on Fire Dances, Night Time and Brighter than a Thousand Suns.
