At The Gates Announce Reunion Shows

AT THE GATES will reunite for some shows next summer, 2008.The following festivals are confirmed so far:

July
4 - 6 - Ruis Rock - Finland
31 - August 2 - Wacken Open Air - Wacken, Germany

August
15 - 17 - Bloodstock, Derby, UK

More shows to be added soon.

Guitarist Anders Bjorler (THE HAUNTED) comments on the reunion: "Well, it felt like the timing was right for once. We have been talking about a possible reunion for years now, but this was the first time everything fell into place. For me personally, it feels like getting closure. The break-up over ten years ago was abrupt and left a bad vibe between us that took years to get over. We have a better relationship today and a more relaxed approach to who we are and what we do. The time is right to get together and play some shows.

Try to catch us live in the summer 2008. It could be your last chance."

sh**... this will be the concert to end all. I mean it had to happen some time, their popularity keeps on growing seeing as every man and his dog to day is ripping them off. In a way I think Slaughter is probably my least favourite album, seeing how it was a bit more mainstream, but it was still godlike. They're probably one of my top 5 favourite bands ever, the kings of originality.

Lucky fans at Wacken will get to witness this www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzgJ6PfP6X4

Um no it's called "The Red in the Sky Is Ours" and it was a f***ing death metal masterpiece. The neo-classical riff structures and complex song writing is what made At The Gates. Particulary "Neverwhere" and "Kingdom Gone" Slaughter of the Soul was still awesome but it was a more mainstream release (I think of it as their Black Album), I think they got a pretty good balance with Terminal Spirit Disease.

ATG. . .selling out. . .melodic death metal masterpiece. . .right. ATG has never put out a sh**ty piece of material, from their neo-classical death metal days to their melodic death inspiring days. Just because SOTS is the album that scene metal kids know about doesn't make it them selling out. Slaughter also just happened to be the best produced of their material and easiest to listen to. Please leave the title sell outs to Metallica.

i dont know man, i listened to the red in the sky is ours (my mistake, sorry) and i really just could not get into it. i thought the vocals were horrid and the production values were garbage. if there was a gem in that mess, than i was not able to find it. maybe i should give it another listen though, it was about a year ago that i heard it so my opinion could change on it.

The production is "unique" I'll give you that - It's miles from todays slick producing (Which funnily enough is hugely inspired by SotS). Watch the youtube link in post 8, old school heaven. I think I love it just because everything is so original. The drum beats are amazing.

hey cynic, i just checked out that video. it didnt make me want to run out and buy a copy of the red in the sky is ours, but i did pay more attention to the guitar work. it was really solid, but the production on it and the vocals just leave far too much to be desired. honestly, if i didnt know that it was at the gates i would have just figured it was some local bands garage tapes. a really good local band. its not that i really want super slick production, because i think that a lot of times it ruins a lot of releases (the red chord's clients, btbam's alaska) and can make terrible bands sound good (suicide silence, job for a cowboy) but theres only a certain amount of low quality grainy sound i can take.

Well to each his own I suppose. I can't really pick a favourite ATGs album, I mean if I pick that it doesn't have "Primal Breath" or "Raped By The Light Of Christ", but then if I pick "With Fear..." then I'm missing "Forever Blind" and "Terminal Spirit Disease" - There's just to many killer tracks they have. Even "All Life Ends" from the Gardens of Grief EP is one of my favourites.

FeartheDJE, Even Elton John would call you a fa**ot. fa**otry of the Soul was full blown AIDS. it's the reason why there are so many sh**ty gothenburg and metalcore bands. Red in the Sky is their best album, hands down. the last 2 albums from ATG suck ass.

fa**otry of the Soul? How original.

Slaughter of the Soul however, was original. You could blame Pantera for the generation of Nu-Metal bands, or why not blame Black Sabbath for any sh**ty metal period? The last two ATG albums are classic, streamlined Swedish thrash and Melodic Death.

Um, because they (along side Sepultura) started playing a groovier, simplistic version of thrash metal which nu-metal bands like Korn took to the extreme. I don't think he's meaning there was anything wrong with Pantera's groove metal stuff, it's just someone's always gonna bastardize good music and make it more mainstream.

I thought Terminal Spirit Disease was pretty good, especially the title track which was more like their old stuff. One of the funnest riffs I like to play on guitar, the verse is in 13/8 or something idiosyncratically At The Gates.

Man, not to whine, but WHY CAN'T THEY COME TO THE U.S? UUggghhh, I need to go to this somehow, At The Gates and Carcass, 2 of the greatest metal bands EVER. And Slaughter Of The Soul is in my opinion the greatest metal album ever recorded, every song is pretty much flawless. Not to mention, the sound was so crisp and brutal, I still haven't found an album that comes close to topping it. They should reform At The Gates for good and quit The Haunted, cause The Haunted sucks.
