Insomnium Shares "The Witch Hunter" Visualizer

On February 24th 2023, Finnish metal melancholists Insomnium will release their ninth full-length, "Anno 1696," via Century Media Records. The third single and music video for 'The Witch Hunter' is available now. You can check it out below.

Guitarist Markus Vanhala comments about the track:
"This is a good example of a song growing and finding its own wings during the studio process. This one definitely has a cinematic feel; the storyline needs the essence of journey moving forward. In fact, I made a Finnish vocal demo for this one, reading and screaming Niilo's storyline, but only the name stayed and translated from 'Noidanmetsästäjä' to English. But that's another story and a secret version never to be found by outsiders."

Bassist/vocalist Niilo Sevänen adds:
"This is Markus Vanhala's composition; it actually does not really sound like the archetypal Insomnium song and has some very interesting elements. One of the songs that improved the most in the studio in my opinion - and became one of the singles. Lyrically it continues to tell the story from the witch hunter's point of view."

Guitarist Ville Friman concludes:
"For me, this song has a really strong cinematic feel to it, and I can easily travel into the story in my head when I close my eyes." More...

Fleshgod Apocalypse Brings Motocultor To London

If you're going to a metal show in London, you're almost guaranteed to be in the north of the city and more likely than not, in Camden. It's unsurprising then that this reporter's first gig of the year took place at the legendary Underworld venue, directly opposite Camden tube station. Tonight was an interesting one as five bands from across the globe convened to represent France's Motocultor Festival, which will take place this August in Carhaix, some of which were performing in England for the first time.

For some reason, the show was delayed by quite some time, with doors opening over half an hour later than scheduled, likely causing the relatively short set times. Nevertheless, opening the festivities tonight was Ethereal Sin from Osaka, Japan and they certainly kicked things off in style. Attention was immediately drawn to drummer Meet Schattenclown, who performed the entire set blindfolded and inch perfect to boot. Much like compatriots Sigh, Ethereal Sin mix black metal with their country's heritage and folklore to create a dazzling aesthetic, which fits hand in glove with their brand of extreme music. Ethereal Sin is immediately likable, displaying an earnest love for their music, for playing and just to be part of the tour. Frontman Yama Darkblaze promised that they would return to London in the near future and judging by the response from the crowd, they'll be welcomed back with open arms. More...

Imperium Dekadenz Releases New Lyric Video

Atmospheric black metal band Imperium Dekadenz flips the script and invites you into the halls of doom with the third single, "Forests In Gale," just before their new album, "Into Sorrow Evermore," drops this Friday via Napalm Records. The new track displays their very own style in mid-tempo speed, inducing a changeover in the song’s next phase that evokes drama and dynamic perception.

Since breaking the scene into with their critically acclaimed debut, "...und die Welt ward kalt und leer," in 2006, the band has developed their own ambient sound with a strong emphasis on melodic structuring and raw tunes that are influenced by the second wave of Norwegian black metal without losing its unique trademarks. With eight new tracks addressing themes of depression, death and desperation, Imperium Dekadenz sticks to their haunting roots and conquers the upper echelons of the black metal world on Into Sorrow Evermore.

Imperium Dekadenz on "Forests in Gale":
"We’re proud to present this mighty glimpse of our world filled with darkness and shadows. ‘Forests in Gale’ is the last raging stand before we finally share our new album Into Sorrow Evermore, unleashing the fury of beauty and the demons of the past – may the storm begin!" More...

Avaland To Release New Album In March

The mystical world of Avaland returns in 2023 with the fantasy symphonic power metal band's sophomore full-length "The Legend of the Storyteller" due out on March 31st, 2023 via Rockshots Records following their 2021 debut "Theater of Sorcery."

Compared to its predecessor, "The Legend Of The Storyteller" is heavier and is a much more epic power metal record full of anthems upon anthems for fans to chant to as they are taken on a journey over twelve theatric tracks. The record also hears double vocal duties from Adrien G. Gzagg and Jeff Kanji along with album guests that include Zak Stevens (ex-Savatage/TSO), Madie (ex-Nightmare/Faith In Agony), Pierre “Cara” Carabalona (Eltharia), Ivan Castelli (Lionsoul), Angèle Macabiès, Jens Ludwig (Edguy) and Bruno Ramos (Sortilège/ex-Manigance).

Lead by Adrien G. Gzagg (Autor/Composer/Lead Singer/Synths and Orchestrations), the album's storyline is aprequel to the band's first album "Theater of Sorcery" as he explains further:

"This album, as the first one, is a journey, a trip out of our world, into the universe of Avaland. We enjoy seeing Avaland as a great saga, as a movie, or series. We feel like listening to Avaland is like watching Game Of Thrones, The Lord Of The Rings, or reading comics, it’s an escape from everyday life. For this album, we took a lot of inspiration from Game Of Thrones and Arthurian Myths. We love fantasy and mythologies and we also find ourselves having a great fascination for alchemy and esoterism. Time is also a great subject, it's mystical… in fact, time will be at the center of this saga. This new opus is showing a heavier and darker atmosphere of Avaland’s theatrical universe. Are you ready to be part of 'The Legend Of The Storyteller?'" More...

"In 2019 after hearing about the plans for a new Cultura Tres, I offered Ale and Juanma to join the band. The music is very organic. Atavistia To Release New Album In April

Atavistia is a wall of sound that joyously greets the ears and assails the senses. With sweeping instrumentals, grand orchestrations, and guitars heavier than Thor’s hammer, this Canadian epic metal band from Vancouver is preparing to unleash their next odyssey, "Cosmic Warfare" on April 21, 2023.

Vocalist Mattias Sippola comments on the new album: "This upcoming album portrays many emotions which have transpired over the past two and a half years. There are dark moments full of pure chaos and anger to moments of triumph and tranquility. I am very proud of how the album flows together."

Fans of Wintersun, Ensiferum, and Dimmu Borgir will be enthralled by the elements of melodic death metal, black metal, and Scandinavian folk that is intricately woven together throughout their diverse soundscape.

Atavistia goes beyond merely crafting songs and takes you on a mental journey though vast sonic landscapes of snow covered forests, desolate tundras and barren permafrost laced landscapes. Beyond the frosty roots of their blackened inspiration, Cosmic Warfare aims for the stars and the vast emptiness of the macrocosm. Bear witness to the destruction of our planet and our cosmos and experience the nothingness of space. More...
