Hate Eternal Finishin New Album, "I, Monarch"
The new Hate Eternal album is currently being mixed and should be completed on January 4th. Entitled "I, Monarch," should hit stores in April 2005 via Earache Records. Here's a statement from guitarist Erik Rutan regarding the effort:
"Just wanted to let all the fans know our third Hate Eternal record 'I, Monarch' is being mixed as we speak and shall be finished on January 4th, 2005 for a spring 2005 release. I just want to say that never have I been so prepared for an album and never have I spent so much time crafting an album. Therefore I feel like we really captured something special. It sounds amazing. At my studio I bought the analog 2 inch machine from Morrisound that we recorded the whole album to, which was very special. Jim Morris sold it to me. In the past I recorded both 'Domination' and part of the 'Gateways...' album with it, and it's been used on great albums by numerous other bands like Deicide, Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse and Death, so it is a very classic machine and I am very honored to have it be a part of my studio now. The tones on this album are amazing, such depth and clarity yet so pummeling. The material is very diverse I feel without compromising what Hate Eternal represents, which is an extreme Metal outfit. I got some killer solos on here and the drumming on the record is groundbreaking I feel, so I am very psyched to get this thing out and tour our asses off next year. I think everyone will be very pleased. We look forward to getting back on the road and supporting 'I, Monarch' with a few surprises for sure . Hope all is Well for all our fans out there and be prepared!"
Boy Sets Fire To Begin Work On Album
Boy Sets Fire look to begin the pre-production process for their next album in January. The group expects to select a studio and producer for the album in the very near future as well. Here's what BSF bassist Robert Ehrenbrand says about the new material:
"As you can imagine we can't wait to go ahead and finally throw these songs down. We have about 25 to 30 songs and will have to decide which ones will end up on the record. They are all very different and unique little bastards and I guess there will be a couple of real surprises on the next CD for you as well as for us. We really tried over the course of the last year to be as open as possible to whatever we felt at the time musically without watering down the essence of this band, but instead finding this essence in different places, which, in my case, was what first drew me to a record like 'The Day The Sun Went Out.' I think this upcoming release has the potential to be a real emotional roller coaster and I can't wait for you to hear it."
In related news, the band expects to resume touring in April.

Slayer's Kerry King on B.C.Rich Guitars
MusiciansFriend reports: Kerry King is one of metal's brightest guitar stars. His band, Slayer, has played to sold-out venues for years and is regarded as one of the best (and loudest) bands playing on the dark side of the metal scene. King's fast and furious style, his unique riffs, and his overall precision have won him the respect of guitarists of all styles. Recently, B.C. Rich introduced a new, affordable Kerry King signature model. Here's are several exerpts from the interview with Kerry King:
MF: Why and how did you get together with B.C. Rich to create this new signature model?
Kerry: Well, I've been with B.C. Rich pretty much since the dawn of time. I endorsed them from probably like '86 to '90. I went with another company for a while, then I decided to try them again. At a point where I wasn't signed with anyone, we talked about my coming back. They made me a guitar and I liked it.Then at the NAMM Show a couple of years ago, they brought up the idea of a model based on the one I play live, but one that was affordable to the masses. I had always been against taking the low road, but they mocked one up and it looked and played great. It eventually became the KKV. Now, with all these B.C. Rich "in store" appearances I'm doing, a lot of people buy one just so I can sign it for them. It's also a good starter guitar. For a kid who's a big Slayer fan, dad can pop down to the music store, buy one, and if the kid stays with it, he can upgrade it when the kid's ready or move to a guitar that's more like the Ferrari I play.
MF: What do you play onstage?
Kerry: I play the one the KKV is based on and a Warlock-style custom.
MF: All B.C. Rich?
Kerry: Yes, all B.C. Rich. They make great guitars.

Dark Tranquillity Talks About Album, Tour Plans
Dark Tranquillity vocalist Mikael Stanne recently spoke to Antenna webzine about the group's new album, "Character", touring, entering the Swedish single charts and loads more. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:
Antenna: Please explain what people can expect from the new album, "Character"?
Mikael Stanne: "'Character' is more extreme and faster. An album that picks up on all the other albums we’ve made and learned from that. The most extreme album we have made in many, many ways and people might be surprised as this comes from the same area as we started in the first place. It’s really fast, aggressive and melodic as well.
Antenna: On previous albums you have tried out clean vocals. Is there any of this on "Character"?
Mikael Stanne: "No, not really. 'Character' is all about screaming and being angry. It's totally different feel to this album I think. What made me want to sing with a different kind of voice was because the songs we were writing at the time were really melancholic and had a different feel to it that really needed something else both lyrically and vocally. This new stuff we have been writing is all about getting out our frustration and anger so it didn’t make sense to use clean vocals. And every other band is doing it now a days and it also takes the fun out of it."
