Papa Roach Can Be Lumped With Anybody Or Anything
Asked if he minds being classified with other nu-rap-rock-power-metal bands, Tobin Esperance of Papa Roach groaned to Newt Briggs of the Las Vegas Mercury: "Just don't lump us in with Linkin Park." After a few seconds, he added, "Whatever, dude. You can lump us in with anybody or anything. We've done it all, man. We've done rock, rap, metal, Warped Tour, Ozzfest, Anger Management--all that sh**. Not a lot of other bands can say that."

Interview
Interview with Magna-FI
I recently did an interview with Magna-FI who was opening for SevenDust at The Plex in Charleston, SC on 12-08-04. All the members were present Mike Szuter (Vocals/Guitar), C.J. Szuter (Guitar), Rob Kley (Bass) and Charlie Smaldino (Drums). First of all I have to say that this was one hell of a show, these guys played there hearts out. And secondly, they kicked ass. If you don’t own there album, you need to get it. From Mike’s melodic vocals to Charlie’s heart stopping bass kicks and driving percussive beats, which command you to move. This band is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

The promoters of the Paul Di'Anno's recent show in Tel Aviv have contacted TotalRock, strongly denying the story they ran recently that the former Iron Maiden singer had been attacked while onstage. Labyrinth Signs With Arise Records
Labyrinth's new album will be entitled "Freeman". Recorded and mixed at Elnor Studio in Milan, Italy and mastered at The House Of Audio Studios in Germany, the album is being called "a big step in the new frontier of Labyrinth's sound". "Freeman" will be released in March 2005.
It's difficult to say in which direction the 2005 Lab's sound is gone, if we consider that in the 10 tracks on "Freeman" we can find the most various things. From the band's most aggressive song ever, 'Dive In Open Waters', to the mid-tempos with killer riffs and harmonics melodies and '70's - or speedy - periods, to disquieting 'Malcom Gray', a song that will give a thrill to more than a few people!"
Arise records will also re-release "No Limits" (originally released in 1996), the first album of the band with Fabio Lione (Rhapsody) on lead vocals. The album has been re-mastered and contains 2 bonus tracks and new graphics. Out in March 2005.

Dimebag Was A Heavy Hitter In Metal Music
An article has been posted on SFGate.com on Dimebag Darrell:
In the outrage over the senseless murder of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, 38, in a Columbus, Ohio, nightclub on Wednesday by a man who charged the stage and shot point-blank at the band and crowd before being shot dead himself by a police officer, less attention has been paid to the former Pantera member's extensive musical influence.
Though hardly a household name, Abbott, who was on tour with his new band, Damageplan, played guitar with a rare intensity that brought together virtuosity with deep-rooted Texas blues riffs. So it's appropriate that the people hit the hardest by the news were not only the band's hardcore fans but also fellow musicians who recognized Abbott not just as a bearded heavy metal icon but a maverick in a field that was used to stagnation.
"He was certainly one of the most influential guitarists of his particular generation," said Brad Tolinski, editor in chief of Guitar World magazine, in a phone call from his New York office. "He played it straight up and wasn't influenced by the trends. I see Pantera as the bridge between the thrash music of bands in the late '80s like Metallica and Megadeth and the nu- metal of today, whether you're talking about Linkin Park or Disturbed."
"When you think of '90s heavy metal or hard rock, Pantera is one of these seminal bands," said Tom Calderone, MTV's executive vice president. "They are quoted today as influences by many bands. Hard rock has lost a legendary guitar player."
