Sunn O))) Peel Session on BBC

On December 9th 2004 SUNN O))) recorded their first Peel Session, sadly posthumously of Peel, but commissioned by him before his passing. This track, "Candlewolf of the Golden Chalice", is a fusion of live old and new SUNN O))) approaches, with power trio riffing combined with a significantly blissful drone section featuring harmonium & tamboura. The track should be archived on the BBC1 site for some time, and we intend to release it as a tour only 12" in the near future (probably for the March-April dates).

Dave Brockie Of GWAR Comments On Dimebag's Death

In a recent interview with StyleWeekly.com, GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (a.k.a. Oderus Ungurus) was asked how he feels about the recent Ohio shootings of former PANTERA guitarist Darrell Abbott and three others.

"It's an incredible tragedy, a disaster, but the metal community will rally and be stronger because of it," he said. "Darrell touched and influenced so many people, he's gained immortal status. But it's not surprising shit like this happens when you live in a country where getting guns is as easy as getting a loaf of bread.

"Nobody is untouchable, whether you're a rock star or a goddamned crackhead. Everyone here is devastated. The night it happened we found out the second song into our set and just went on autopilot. For the encore we took off our costumes and dedicated a song to Darrell. And we’re doing something tonight in Dallas [his hometown]."

Staind To Sue Due To Trademark Infringement

Launch Radio Networks is reporting that STAIND has filed a lawsuit in Ohio federal court against Jon C. Stainbrook for trademark infringement and breach of contract, while also seeking a judicial declaration that the band's trademark registrations are valid. STAIND was forced to take legal action, according to a statement issued by the band yesterday (Dec. 21), when Stainbrook attempted to re-register "THE STAIN" as a trademark despite the fact that the band purchased it from him in 1999.

The members of STAIND said in their statement, "We dealt with this years ago by purchasing Mr. Stainbrook's mark in good faith. All we want to do is make music and it's too bad that we have to spend time and energy dealing with this situation. We are confident that our purchase agreement with Mr. Stainbrook will be upheld, and his attempts to cancel our STAIND registrations and to re-register 'THE STAIN' will be rejected."

According to STAIND's suit, Stainbrook "purposefully caused STAIND's rights in the 'THE STAIN' trademark registration to lapse, and now seeks to benefit from his conduct by attempting to reclaim rights in 'THE STAIN.'"

The band also seeks to have Stainbrook's motion to cancel STAIND's trademark registrations be deemed meritless and rejected by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Stainbrook filed a petition against the group in October with the Patent and Trademark Office, claiming that they obtained the right to use the name through "fraudulent practices." Stainbrook, who used to lead a band called the STAIN, legally forced the Los Angeles pop-punk act LIT to abandon their original name, STAIN.

Throwdown Guitarist Departs, Album Update

Meanwhile, Throwdown will be entering the studio in February with producer Zeuss (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall) to record their next album. The effort will be recorded as a four-piece: Dave Peters (vocals), Matt Mentley (guitar), Dom Macaluso (bass), Ben Dussault (drums).
