Aeternus Announce Album Title And Tracklisting

Ares, founder and guitarist of the long running Norwegian death/black metal band Aeternus, announced the album title and track listing for their sixth album, entitled "Hexaeon," at the band's website:

The Darkest of Minds
GodHead Charlatan
The 9th Revolution
In The 3 rd Dwells Oblivion
Hexaeon
Punished
Ageless Void
Christbait
What I Crave

Ares made the following comments regarding the forthcoming album:

There it is people, the title for the new Aeternus album. As I've said before, some things haven't been recorded yet so we have more work to do in the studio besides from mixing it all of course. There's no date for the release, but as far as we know from Noctural Art Productions, the plan is to release the album in the beginning of next year. The reason for this is a priority thing, common and simple. NAP can't release albums with every band at the same time so for those who wait in agony: Patience!

Trivium Album Update From Derbyshire

Matt and Travis of Trivium have touched ground in the UK, where they are now currently mixing their debut release on Roadrunner with Andy Sneap. In fact, we have words to share from the band. Frontman Matt Heafy relays this following:

Well we're here. My phone doesn't work. I thought it was going to. Everything's coming along - guitars, solos are reamped...right now Andy's doing drums - I got internet working.

The plane ride was insane - the plane was very small and friggon uncomfortable... ha ha - and it was a crazy time change, Travis and I are all fucked up on the time. 5 hours behind, and then they just had daylight savings time - so its even weirder.

I must say the recording sounds massive now! Sneap knows his shizzo - its rockin. I got wah on the solos in "Gunshot..." and "Rain..." (they're perfect now).

Alright guys - heading back to the studio.

Trivium "Ascendancy" coming early 2005.

Gwar To Live On Forever

Chart Attack has posted the following article on Gwar:

Gwar lead singer Oderous Urungus is pissed. Well, it’s actually the man behind the mask — Dave Brockie — who’s steaming. The grizzly crooner has been dealing with naysayers for far too long. After nearly two decades of slugging it out in a big rubber suit as a "giant mutant marauder from outer space" playing heavy metal to worthless humans, he’s sick of his theatrical rock band’s blood, sweat and tears getting relegated to the status of mere "gimmick."

"Gwar is funny but it’s a gimmick that gets old? Fuck off," he grunts. "Every band has a gimmick whether you’re pretending you’re outer space mutants or you’re dudes with long hair and bullet belts. Our shtick is way more versatile because while the dudes with bullet belts and long hair are going bald and getting fat, I’m climbing into my air conditioned Oderous Urungus murder suit. And quite honestly, the fatter I get, the more the fans like it! We have as much to do with Cats [the musical] as we do with Black Sabbath. It’s a theatrical production — way-off Broadway theatre brought to you in a punk rock/metal venue."

Strangely enough, only now does Brockie see a true future for Gwar. He never expected that what started out as a gag would see him doused in blood and singing about dead babies nightly for the rest of his life, but thanks to the vitality of War Party, he has even more grandiose plans.

"We will hand Gwar down. I’m dead fuckin’ serious… either to other performers or people that we breed ourselves in great vats underneath the Slave Pit. Gwar will be a band that lasts forever thanks to this Second Coming, if you will. The biggest days of Gwar are in front of us and we have no intention of stopping our assault until we’ve brought the human race to its knees."

Lamb Of God: The Real Metal Deal

Canadian music magazine Chart Attack has posted an interview with Lamb of God vocalist, Randy Blythe:

If you haven't heard "Ashes Of The Wake," the new album from Virginia metal band Lamb Of God, then you are weak. Undeniably brutal, "Ashes Of The Wake" is the band's first album on a major label. In a scene that prides itself on being, it's up to the metalheads to decide if this newfound attention is a good thing or the not. Lamb Of God vocalist Randy Blythe spoke with ChartAttack recently to say that he doesn't really give a shit what the metal community thinks. To him, music's just music, man. Regardless of what label it's on, if you haven't heard "Ashes Of The Wake" yet, do so because it will kick you in the privates.

The Haunted Enjoy Themselves, Get Back On Track

It took a few years, but metal giants The Haunted are finally getting their act together. Releasing their fourth album "rEVOLVEr" this month, the raucous quintet (singer Peter Dolving, guitarists Anders Bjorler and Jensen, bassist Jonas Bjorler and drummer Per Moller Jensen) feel good about their music for a change. Working through a mountain of problems that would have killed lesser bands, these randy Swedes have turned the negative into a positive.

"We’re enjoying ourselves a lot more now than ever before," says Dolving. "The overall feeling in the band is more positive. We have a new label, we have a new singer — me — who isn’t completely fuckin’ suicidal and on drugs, we have a new album and we have fun when we play. Very few people have all of that, so in our eyes things are finally great. And that means we’ve actually made an album that we can be proud of."

Managing to strike that ever-elusive balance between enjoying your craft and actually building something meaningful, The Haunted couldn’t be prouder of "rEVOLVEr." Sonically closer to the band’s earlier output than their more recent swing to metalcore, Dolving says that "rEVOLVEr" might be a bit of a misnomer. They’re almost regressing musically. But in this case, the slip is "back on track."

"There were a few years where The Haunted fell off the rails in some ways," he says. "We weren’t putting out bad music, but sometimes it was too influenced by external sources. With 'rEVOLVEr,' we’re stepping back more towards the first album. That has to do with being purists. I don’t know what the fuck that means, but it’s what we are. We’ve stripped it clean with this album: a basic five-piece band just playing. That’s closer to what we achieve live. I think 'rEVOLVEr' is real Haunted."

And what, pray tell, is "real Haunted?" Dolving thinks that it’s a conscious shift away from throwing tracks together and worrying about how they sound on the record and focusing on actually writing them in the first place, a problem that has plagued them for years now.

"Somehow the sound became more important than the actual songs. This time, we started focusing on the songwriting more now than ever and that showed us the biggest problem we were having: the energy was lacking. With some of us not living in the same city, it took a toll on what we were trying to do. There was a lot of jamming without a singer and sent tapes back and forth. That has an impact on the finished product because you don’t have the interaction you need between members. Now that we’re all in the same physical space and headspace, we can make sure that every element stands up for itself. At the end of the day, we’re still pretty basic metal."

The Red Chord Continue Drummer Search

The Red Chord continue to seek a new drummer to replace John Longstreth, with whom they parted ways in September. The group has opted to find a permanent replacement before recording their new album, which they are currently writing, rather than using a session drummer. According to vocalist Guy Kozowyk, "We all decided that it would be a better idea if the band searched a bit more for the drummer that will be a part of The Red Chord. We don't want to be held back from touring after or even before the record comes out. We want to be able to tour as soon as possible right after the record is recorded."

'The Heroin Diaries' Inspires Nikki Sixx

Motley Crue and Brides of Destruction bassist Nikki Sixx posted an update on the Diary section of Crue's official web site. Sixx writes, "I've been locked in my home studio writing music for 'The Heroin Diaries'. I've also been hard at work buttoning up the book [autobiography] (of the same name). All this stuff will come out next year. Very exciting project for me. I've turned my back on Pro Tools and have dived head-on into logic pro 7. A must tool for songwriting. The new Crue songs turned out fu**in killer. Not sure where they will turn up, but like any good splinter, I'm sure they will work themselves out and break through to the surface sometime. Who knows, not me. Mick [Mars] is doing great and sends his love."

Wes Borland Makes New BDF Track Available Online

LIMP BIZKIT guitarist Wes Borland has uploaded a "new" BIG DUMB FACE track, entitled "Darkness Becomes", at his official web site. Download it at this location.

BIG DUMB FACE, which consists of Wes, his brother, and a group of pre-LIMP BIZKIT friends, released their debut album, "Duke Lion Fights The Terror", in March 2001.

At the time of the album's release, Borland acknowledged that recording the strange and self-proclaimed "stupid" songs of BIG DUMB FACE actually helped him in his bread-and-butter band.

"I think it really helps me in LIMP BIZKIT as well because it keeps me fresh and keeps me writing," he told Launch. "In LIMP BIZKIT, it helps me to write stuff that isn't what I would have written, I guess, if I was just thinking, 'What should the next LIMP BIZKIT song be that I write?' instead of, 'What would be a great song that we can make into a LIMP BIZKIT song?' It just keeps me fresh."
