Vreid Set Debut Album Release Date
Candlelight Records has set a January 25, 2005 U.S. release date for "Kraft," the debut album from Norway's Vreid (Norwegian for "wrath"). Formed earlier this year, the band features the surviving members of Windir (Hváll on bass, Steingrim on drums and Sture on vocals/guitar), disbanded due to the unexpected death of singer/founder Valfar.
"Kraft" was recorded during the summer at Hváll's Studio 1184 and was mixed at Subsonic Society Studio (Susperia, Windir, Red Harvest, Darkhrone) in Oslo.
Vreid's music is being described as a continuation of the sound and style Hváll had created with Windir and Ulcus, but with "its own personal sound — a mixture of the ambience of Windir, the rawness of Norwegian black metal and the rocking groove of Motörhead." The lyrics are written both in Norwegian and English. Rounding out Vreid's lineup is a guitarist named Ese — a close friend of the Vreid members for years, and co-engineer on Windir's "Likferd" album.
Windir, founded by Valfar in 1994, leave behind four recordings, all recorded for Head Not Found Records. The band graced stages at Inferno, Quart and Hole in the Sky European Festivals plus an appearance (and now only U.S. show) at the Milwaukee Metal Fest. The band were set to record their fifth album and first to receive worldwide release via Candlelight/Tabu Records before Valfar's death.

Mercenary Schedule "11 Dreams" US Release Date
Danish band Mercenary’s Century Media debut and fourth full-length release "11 Dreams" has been scheduled for U.S. release on February 8th, 2005. Recorded by Jacob Hanson (HateSphere, Raunchy) with cover art by Niklas Sundin (Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy), the album’s crystal clear production ushers in an essential pure form of intense expression. Combining multi-layered vocals, intricate songwriting, and simple-catchy song structure, while remaining aggressive, the band weaves into their music a dark symphonic Scandinavian melancholy. "11 Dreams" can be described as a mixture of Soilwork’s "Natural Born Chaos," and fellow Dane’s Raunchy.
Released in Europe earlier this year to celebratory reviews, "11 Dreams" received Metal Hammer Germany’s album of the month and the esteemed magazine awarded it 6 out of 7 points. Rock Hard Germany awarded the album 8 out of 10 points and called it “an exquisitely powerful opus.” The domestic U.S. version of the album will contain 2-bonus tracks.
Guitar player Jakob Mølberg commented on the bands Century Media multi-album worldwide record deal, “signing with the label (Century Media) has always been a dream for us – not as a label but as a statement that Mercenary has entered a new rank in the world of metal music.” The band performed in 2003 at Atlanta’s sold-out ProgPower USA IV. Hades Almighty To Headline Elements Of Metal Fest
Norwegian black/extreme metallers Hades Almighty have been confirmed to headline the first day of the Elements Of Metal Festival, set to take place December 3-4 in Sandefjord, Norway. Red Harvest will be headlining the second day. Also scheduled to perform at the festival are Guardians of Time, Octavia Sperati, Grand Alchemist, Cutthroat, Lucid Fear, V:28, Harm and Arch Nemesis. More information is available at the festival's web site.
In other news, Hades Almighty will appear on Norwegian national TV, on the program "Metal Blender," on Thursday, November 11 on NRK2.
Hades Almighty have uploaded the video for their song "Submission Equals Suicide" at this location (Quicktime).
"Submission Equals Suicide" comes off the group's recently reissued "forgotten classic," "The Pulse of Decay," now available through Dark Essence Records. The group originally released the album in 2001 through Psycho Bitch Records, the label formed by the band's then-management. That resulted in "no distribution," making it virtually impossible for fans to find the album, according to a posting on the group's web site. Now the CD has been re-released with new cover design, three bonus songs and the "Submission Equals Suicide" video.
Formed in 1992, Hades Almighty are currently working on new material for a tentative early 2005 release.

Skinless Vocalist Quits
After ten years together, Skinless vocalist Sherwood Webber will be leaving the group. According to the band, "He is pursuing other opportunities in life that wouldn't be possible while playing in a serious touring band." The search for a replacement is apparently already underway, though no specifics regarding the search have been disclosed.
Here's Skinless guitarist Noah's entire update:
"After a decade of giving 110% to SKINLESS, vocalist Sherwood Webber is leaving the band. He is pursuing other opportunities in life that wouldn't be possible while playing in a serious touring band. We thank Sherwood for his dedication, energy and talent that have helped elevate SKINLESS to the level we are at today. The search is underway for a new vocalist and SKINLESS will rock on.
We'd also like to thank everyone who came out to our DVD release show. It was an interesting night as ex-SKINLESS members Ryan Wade(vocals)and Adam Lewis(bass) took the stage along with Sherwood(heads back to play the drums)and myself to perform Pool Of Stool and Crispy Kids in a brief SKINLESS 1995 reunion. I hope you all have as much fun watching the DVD as we had making it.The feedback so far has been awesome. -Noah"

Rock Viet II Live Review Posted
A review of Rock Viet II, which took place in Ha Noi Water Park, Vietnam, has been posted on Hanoi's Viet Nam News website:
Rock music is still very new to Viet Nam, but the nation’s youth are determined to breath new life into a musical genre which has been around for a while. Matt Bradley tunes up.
A water park in October seems like an unlikely place for a hard rock concert. But in a city where armies of young people are itching to rock-out, and where finding a large music venue is a catch-as-catch-can affair, the Ha Noi Water Park was the perfect place for a raucous "Rock Viet II."
For this gig, I needed the help of a professional consultant: my friend, translator and Vietnamese rock expert, Le Vu Huu Don. Don has his own amateur rock group and keeps his finger on the pulse of Ha Noi’s germinal hard rock scene. I met Don outside my office last Thursday night. He was sporting his "Def Lepard" T-shirt and revving his engine.
"Let us rock," said Don.
And so we did. More...
