Scott Weiland Is Happier Than Ever
Steve Morse of the Boston Globe caught up with Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland for a Q&A and asked if things had really turned around for him now that he's back with his wife and two children. "This has been the most happy time of my entire life," he said. "I figured out the only way to get my wife back was to stop focusing on getting my wife back and try to figure out who I was -- and that's when the process really began. I had been trying to follow the same footsteps of everybody who had gotten their [act] together through traditional mediums. And I don't need to name that process because everybody knows what I'm talking about. But in trying to do that, I was continuously banging my head against the wall... The thing with me is that I am an individual -- I'm a square peg who can't fit into a round hole. I was allowed by the courts to get into [a program] where I was turned onto this dude who was a lifetime junkie, and he happened to have a completely different philosophy than anyone I had ever met. He took little bits from every different philosophy to make his own. For me, that made sense. That was a new place to start from... And for whatever reason, I got to a point in my life where [heroin] is just something I can't conceive of doing again. I made a decision that that's not who I am anymore."

It's my private life. People that I care about are going to get hurt reading this."

Never Mind Nirvana?
Sure, Nirvana is not exactly metal or grunge or punk. I ran across this article on Nirvana's legacy and found it well wrtten and an interesting read. Here's an excerpt:
You remember Nirvana don't you, small little band out of Seattle, was really big in the early 1990's? They had a lead singer named Kurt Cobain who combined unbelievable song writing talent with unadulterated rage and rancor at the world. They helped kick start the grunge movement, a movement they would never embrace but can?t help but be linked to. They took a shotgun to the remains of hair metal that had dominated the past years of the music scene. Then in 1994, Cobain took a shotgun and blew his brains out. At the time, as is the case whenever a huge musical force passes away at such an early age, people said Nirvana would never be forgotten. Sadly, they have.

Independent Film Channel To Air Spinal Tap
The Independent Film Channel is airing "This Is Spinal Tap" every Saturday at 10 p.m. in November and jump-starts things at 9:30 p.m. today with "Spinal Tap Goes to 20," a behind-the-scenes look at the 1984 "mockumentary" starring Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Rob Reiner, who also directed the film. Pulling out every heavy metal music cliché known to man, the classic rock parody follows faux British band Spinal Tap, which is trying desperately to make a comeback in America.
Taproot: 'Getting Back To A More Live, Raw Feel'
Taproot drummer Jarrod Montague has posted the following update on the group's official web site:
"Well, I've been so busy with my stuff that I didn't have a chance to update you guys, but drum and bass trax are DONE! We moved into the studio on Oct. 17 and started going to work the next day. We were in the studio from about noon until at least midnight everyday working away. We really tried to get takes from drums and bass that had the right feel for the song instead of a necessarily 'perfect' take. We all usually agreed on the take when we heard it which was cool. Also, on the last record, Phil [bassist Philip Lipscomb] would usually do his real bass track after we had picked a good drum take. But this time, we kept alot of the stuff of him and I playing live together, and they would just punch in stuff that wasn't right. It all should make for an album that is slightly less polished than 'Welcome' and get back to a more live, raw feel.
"We recorded drum and bass for 16 songs and messed around with a couple interlude ideas which was lots of fun. I'm not sure how many will make the record yet. I know another post asked about track titles and album titles. There are still a couple titles floating around, but that's still being decided on. Mike [guitarist Michael DeWolf] and Steve [vocalist Stephen Richards] are working on artwork ideas, so whatever title lends itself to the artwork and the music the best will win.
"We finished drums and bass up last week; I drove a van back to Michigan with a bunch of our stuff that we had acquired in LA and am loving being home after a year in LA. Steve and Mike are still hard at work on guitars and eventually vocals. Everything is sounding awesome you guys. We all will meeting back in LA in January to do what we call 'sprinkles' which includes any programming things, piano things, extra guitar things, or string things we might want to add. Everyone's taking some time off for the holiday season but we'll finish up at the beginning of the year.
"Can't wait for you to hear it. Be patient — it's worth the wait."

Part Of Deicide's European Tour Postponed
Contrary to reports from the Portuguese date of Deicide's European tour, Deicide have not cancelled the rest of the trek but have instead postponed part of the tour in order to accodmodate drummer Steve Asheim, whose father has just died. The group's booking agent, Adam Elfin of First Contact Agency, has sent BLABBERMOUTH.NET the following statement regarding the situation:
"At 3am after the Madrid show, the tour discovered that (Deicide's drummer) Steve Asheim's father had died. Despite that the band played the show last night in Porto. However, they have flown back to the States today [Saturday, Nov. 6], to allow Steve to be with his family and make the necessary arrangements at this most difficult of times. Therefore, due to completely unforeseen and obviously unavoidable circumstances, Deicide are postponing PART of the current tour.
"Both Steve and the rest of the band are determined to not let the promoters, venues and fans down, and therefore to continue the tour as soon as circumstances will allow and Steve feels comfortable to return to gigging. To that end we are looking at moving some of the shows from the beginning of the tour, to the end of the tour. These dates will remain where they are: More...

Motorhead: Band Resumes Touring
Motorhead's official web site has been updated with the following message:
"In September of 2004, the world of metal was shocked when the news was unveiled that Lemmy, Motorhead's veteran frontman, had sustained an injury to his foot severe enough to cause the band to cancel their much anticipated tour of the United States. Lemmy had managed to get an infection on his foot from an injury sustained on an earlier show. Ignoring doctors' orders, Lemmy forged ahead and finished the highly successful string of European festival dates. 'Motorhead fans are the best fans in the world and they deserve everything I have to give,' Lemmy waxed, 'and I am going to do whatever I can to play the shows. F**k the doctors!' The band went on to play to thousands of fans, bring classics and new songs alike to the hungry metal heads!
"The shows were a success, but the infection in Lemmy's foot grew to the point that some serious medical decisions had to be made. On the eve of the band's much-anticipated U.S. tour, doctors advised Lemmy that the infection was so severe that they suggested amputating a part of his foot to stem the spread. Lemmy told the doctors where they could stick their diagnosis and decided to head back to his native home of England and consult his physicians there. They suggested that the best course of action would be to address the infection with a regimen of antibiotics. The cure worked and less than two weeks later Lemmy was out of the hospital, in one piece and as fit as a fiddle, fitted with steel strings. It wasn't long before Lemmy was back to his old self, checking out his favorite London strip club String Fellows with a girl on each arm and plenty of Jack & Coke to make the evening complete.
"Given a clean bill of health from all of his physicians, Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee decided to go ahead with their European tour plans. Motorhead kicks off the sold-out tour on November 4th in Dublin, Ireland. Dates continue throughout Europe and Scandinavia until the tour wraps up in Stockholm, Sweden, on December 19th.
"As for the U.S. tour? Plans are under way for Motorhead to take their spectacular road show to the US in March of 2005 to support their newest record 'Inferno'."

Amen Frontman To Auction Memorabilia
Amen frontman Casey Chaos will be cleaning out his garage this weekend, and will soon be putting one-of-a-kind Amen memorabilia on eBay. This will include different-mix CDs from all three album sessions of individual songs. During the recording of an album, the band is given different mixes of each song to listen to and critique, and Casey has kept all of them from all three albums. What this means, is that each one will be unique, and no one will have anything like it. Also, Casey will include a random autographed photo. This could be anything from a photo of Casey at the age of three, to a photo of Casey onstage at reading. These will also be one of a kind. Also in the sale will be posters and other random Amen memorabilia. More information is available at this location.
Dissection: Stockholm Show Filmed For Upcoming DVD
Reactivated Swedish death metallers Dissection filmed their headlining performance in Stockholm on Saturday (Oct. 30) for an upcoming DVD, tentatively due next year. The as-yet-untitled disc will also feature a band documentary.
In other news, Dissection mainman Jon Nödtveidt (vocals and guitar) told Finland's Sonera Plaza that the group's next full-length effort will surface in the fall of 2005. "We will continue touring all around the world (probably South America and so on) during the winter/spring 2005 and we will also be playing summer festivals all around Europe and so on. We have about 11 new songs that we are going to record during the spring 2005 so the next album comes out in the autumn."
With regards to which record company might end up releasing the next album, Jon said, "I don't know the record label yet. We have been getting offers from many labels, but we haven't decided anything yet. So we will see who releases the album... I already have a title for the record in mind but it's too early to release that information right now."
Dissection performed a headlining set at the nearly sold-out Nosturi club in Helsinki, Finland Thursday night (Nov. 4). Check out pictures from Sonera Plaza.

Soulgrind Completes Recordings For New Album
Soulgrind, the Finnish band featuring former Lullacry frontwoman Tanja "Whisper Lilith" Kemppainen (a.k.a. Tanya), have completed the recordings for their new album, "The Origins of the Paganblood," and are currently mixing the effort for a late January 2005 release via France's Holy Records. The band have abandoned the idea of including a DVD with the new album due to a "lack of time and money," according to a posting on the group's web site. "All of the studio budget has been spent [on] the forthcoming album to make it great," the band writes. "We noticed that less is better. With a double budget we would have done the DVD and live album. BUT the live material shall be released someday through the Internet."
Song titles set to appear on the CD include "The Prophecy," "Northlander," "When Those Nights Have Circled Over," "Paganblood" and "Flesh Marionette."
In other news, Soulgrind have negotiated a deal with Icarus Records for the rights to their 1997 album, "Whitsongs." "We are near the conclusion," the band writes on their web site. "Soulgrind shall get the rights for the album and we are planning to release it by ourselves or we shall re-release it through a cool label. Album has done well in South America, but due lack of advertising etc. rest is mystery. Interested parties should contact us via soulgrind@jippii.fi."

Black Sabbath And Rob Halford CD/DVD?
From www.sabbathlive.com:
Here's just a taste of something I KNOW many of you Sabbath collectors have been hoping and wishing for. I recently received an e-mail from The Reverend, who informed me of a pro-shot video of Sabbath's historic performance at Camden with Rob Halford. Ever the skeptic, I asked him if he could provide me a sample of this film so I could confirm the veracity of his tale.
Less than a week later, I received a package containing a DVD+R sample of one complete song - "Children Of The Grave." Any doubts or skepticism I may have had evaporated as soon as I pressed play on PowerDVD. This was definitely the real deal and quite impressive in terms of quality!
I have shared the clip only with a few very close friends and honorary Sabbathlive staffers, who were also floored. While Holmdel 2004 might be the audio champion for the Ozzfest 2004 tour at the moment, this is easily the video highlight of their recent U.S. tour. And that isn't to disparage Jim Rollner's fine film of the Englewood show, which is also quite a sweet one. It's just hard to top a pro-shot digital film of such a unique show.
While I cannot post any audio/video samples of this clip, I did make a large batch of video stills for everyone to peruse. Please DO NOT write in to beg for copies of this film. I was given this one sample for review purposes only. I will delete any such requests that I receive, so don't bother trying. I am happy to let everyone know what's on the horizon, but it's not my policy to distribute these recordings - period.
However, I am told that an audio CD version of the show will be released on November 19th through Dust An' Dreams (www.dnd-rock.com) in Japan. The DVD version is slated for release in mid-December.
Pictures from the Camden date are available here.
Seven Witches Update From Jack
Jack from Seven Witches has posted this message on the band's official website:
What's up all you metalheads? Been a long while since I dropped all of you a line, so let's get to the good stuff :
The newest Seven Witches CD is out on Sanctuary records and is receiving great reviews some of which are up in our CD reviews section on this website. If you haven't got it yet, what are you waiting for? The reviewers say they think this is our best work yet. More exciting news for the Witches, we've just sign with Tammy Taylor of Universal Attractions (yup, a division of Universal Movies) one of the largest booking agencies on the east coast. Currently we're working on a major U.S. tour, scheduled to start in January. All the details aren't worked out yet, but let's just say the tour should be insane! Even more exciting news for all you Witches fans, we're currently working on putting an official issue Seven Witches DVD together. The DVD will include live performances and a whole bunch of other great shit, look for it sometime in 2005. In other related news, James Rivera, lead singer and all around talented motherfucker, is currently doing a Helstar reunion tour scheduled soon for Europe, so keep an eye out for James and the Helstar boys as this should be a killer tour for them. Currently I'm working on putting together another solo CD. No release date or title as of yet, but as soon as I figure it out, I'll have it up here on the website to keep all of you informed. Coming soon on the website, a new section called "Witches and Beyond," a section dedicated to everything that the Witches members have done past to present. This section will include rare pictures, little known facts, video's and audio. It should be up sometime in the near future. I guess that's it for the moment. Stay tuned to the website for more info on tour dates and other Witches related stuff.
Nick Unprepared For Megadeth Shows, Earshot Leave
Megadeth's tour manager has posted the following message on the band's official website:
To All Droogies everywhere, I was there, and I was involved in the decision making process with Nick and Dave of replacing Megadeth's drummer.Nick knew that there was not a lot of time to get prepared for the tour, but he still tried to pull it off. Sadly, he was not prepared for the physical demands of a Megadeth show, and as all Droogies know, Megadeth is not some wimpy top 40 band that walks on a stage and gives a half-assed show.
This is why Nick knew Megadeth had to make this decision. Nick was actually involved in the discussion of bringing Shawn Drover into the camp.
Dave worked very hard with Nick to make this all happen, but it just was not coming together and time was running out to get this tour off the ground, so the change was made for the band and for you the fans. Dave did the right thing.
So to all Droogies throughout the world, MEGADETH IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER!
In other news, Earshot has decided to drop off the Megadeth tour.
