Taproot: 'Getting Back To A More Live, Raw Feel'

Taproot drummer Jarrod Montague has posted the following update on the group's official web site:

"Well, I've been so busy with my stuff that I didn't have a chance to update you guys, but drum and bass trax are DONE! We moved into the studio on Oct. 17 and started going to work the next day. We were in the studio from about noon until at least midnight everyday working away. We really tried to get takes from drums and bass that had the right feel for the song instead of a necessarily 'perfect' take. We all usually agreed on the take when we heard it which was cool. Also, on the last record, Phil [bassist Philip Lipscomb] would usually do his real bass track after we had picked a good drum take. But this time, we kept alot of the stuff of him and I playing live together, and they would just punch in stuff that wasn't right. It all should make for an album that is slightly less polished than 'Welcome' and get back to a more live, raw feel.

"We recorded drum and bass for 16 songs and messed around with a couple interlude ideas which was lots of fun. I'm not sure how many will make the record yet. I know another post asked about track titles and album titles. There are still a couple titles floating around, but that's still being decided on. Mike [guitarist Michael DeWolf] and Steve [vocalist Stephen Richards] are working on artwork ideas, so whatever title lends itself to the artwork and the music the best will win.

"We finished drums and bass up last week; I drove a van back to Michigan with a bunch of our stuff that we had acquired in LA and am loving being home after a year in LA. Steve and Mike are still hard at work on guitars and eventually vocals. Everything is sounding awesome you guys. We all will meeting back in LA in January to do what we call 'sprinkles' which includes any programming things, piano things, extra guitar things, or string things we might want to add. Everyone's taking some time off for the holiday season but we'll finish up at the beginning of the year.

"Can't wait for you to hear it. Be patient — it's worth the wait."
