Slipknot, The Hives, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Hatebreed are the latest bands to be confirmed for the Big Day Out Festival tour of Australia and New Zealand, which will happen in January/February. They join a bill that already includes System Of A Down, The Donnas and Powderfinger among others.

Man, the tickets cost $100+ to get sunburned and watch a lot of god-awful bands. Waste not pity on those foolish enough to attend. Besides, if you actually like any of the bands on the bill, nearly all bands on the bill play a local show or tour anyway, so you don't have to sit the through the crap you couldn't be bothered with, and you get a much longer set. It's a no-brainer, really.

not here in NZ; the tickets are up to $95 and the good thing is all the rock ands play at night so we dont get sunburnt but it does get pretty hot here. dont diss us just coz the aussies make a mess of things : we never get anthing good down here. dont complain. slipknot rulz!

can't wait for this. big day out will absolutely kick a$$ this year. we get the third show in sydney i think so i hope the bands are not worn out from the brissy show, but either way it'd be awsome.
To see the 'knot, hatebreed, system of a down beastie boys in one day is a fukking dream. ac, when the bands you don't like come on, that's when you go and drink some beers and then jump back in the pit when the big bands come.

Why argue? I'm sick of Slipknot fans trying to tell me what I can and can't like. When I voice a negative opinion about the band all that a majority of them have to offer in response is a torrent of abuse.
'Oh you must be a fa**ot if you don't like Slipknot' - that kind of junk.
Earlier on this post, I made a statement basically saying 'f*** the BDO, just watch the bands you like at a local show, save time and money'. And what was the sole response? Abuse. None of them said 'there aren't any local shows so the only way I see this band is to go to the BDO and endure the other sh**e', no, that would've been sensible and constructive. It always just lapses straight into name-calling. And saying that you're mallcore and into rap. And this is from people who listen to Slipknot who, frankly, are one of the most mallcore bands who I can think of.
And if you're going to call me hypocritical for dishing out abuse, take a look around... Do I start sh**? No. If I'm at the point of abusing someone, they've show their colours as one of the majority of close-minded fools on this planet and for that they must pay.
And need a life? I blow through here every now and then during quiet periods at work. I'm in a band, have plenty of friends and a girlfriend who I've lived with for years. I've got a great life, thanks.

Damn straight, Sean. The metal scene is microscopic in the scheme of things over here and we're always the last (except Africa) to get world tours coming through. We have NO local metal bands who receive support or press from the local mass media, about the closest would be the Butterfly Effect who sound like Hoobastank, so as you see - NO press for metal! The only largish local metal mag is Kerrang (the Australian edition anyway) and if you've read the UK version, you know how pathetic that is.
The only real metalfest is Metal For The Brain which, happily, is extending into a tour next year, having been based in Canberra the last decade or so. So far Canberra, Perth and Brisbane dates are already confirmed, and it can only be a matter of time before Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide are included.
A few years back we almost lost this jewel of the Australian metal scene because they couldn't get the insurance to cover it. The insurance companies heard the words 'heavy metal' and wouldn't insure them, and of course the world being as f***ed as it is, the insurance is a necessary piece of red tape, because no doubt some useless c*** would stub their toe and then sue the organisers for everything and probably win. The festival was cancelled that year, and we almost lost it for good.
Oh, and I should mention that the proceeds go to researching cures for brain injury, not into a sleazy promoter's pocket.

you people overseas think $110 is expensive to see a heap of bands play? it would cost ya's like $45 US to see just a slipknot concert which is like $70 AUS so for an extra $40 AUS ur seeing all these other bands and no u dont have to put up with the other bullsh** bands that u dont like cause there are multiple stages playing at the same time.
