The follow up to 2005’s Ascendancy, The Crusade debuted with an impressive 342% increase over the first week sales of the last album. A worldwide event, the album debuted at No. 7 on the UK charts (where it was certified Silver upon release) with 25,000 units sold, and landed at No. 23 in Germany and Canada, No. 12 in Ireland and at No. 14 in Australia. 10 Years Stops Touring To Concentrate On Writing

Launch Radio Networks reports: 10 YEARS has revealed on its MySpace page that the band will not tour anymore for the rest of the year, opting instead to begin working on its next album. Singer Jesse Hasek told Launch that the band has been toying with song ideas during its last few months on the road, but now has to focus on piecing them together. "It's very difficult to go through a whole song structure when all your gear is packed up in the trailer, and honestly, after you play five out of seven days, sometimes you just want to sit," he said. "So, yeah, we need to definitely get in a room and hash it out. We work well together when we have a confined area with no distractions. That's when we really, really work hard."

Guitarist Matt Wantland posted on MySpace that the band was about to begin the writing process for its next CD, adding, "We have grown and changed in so many ways in (these) past 18 months, everything you have taught us, shown us, admitted to us, asked of us, has been building inside of us, and is about to be released through strings and drums and words."

Wantland also thanked the group's fans for sticking with the band and buying "over 400,000 copies" of its debut disc, "The Autumn Effect".

10 YEARS finished up its 18 months on the road with a slot on this past summer's Family Values tour, alongside KORN, DEFTONES and others.

"The Autumn Effect" featured the singles "Wasteland", "Through The Iris" and "Waking Up".

Erik Rutan Comments On Passing Of Jared Anderson

HATE ETERNAL mainman Erik Rutan has commented on the passing of former MORBID ANGEL/HATE ETERNAL bassist/vocalist Jared Anderson, who died on Saturday, October 14 at the age of 30. The cause of his death has not yet been released.

Said Rutan: "This has been so hard for me to put into words for I am just devastated.

"Jared was such an incredible person, amazing musician and most of all, a best friend, a brother, family.

"Jared and I played together for over five years in HATE ETERNAL. We worked together on INTERNECINE, we toured together with MORBID ANGEL and spent some of the best days of our lives together as bandmates and as best friends.

"Jared was so devoted to his music, life, his friends and his family. There was nothing he would not do for anyone he cared for.

"Jared was there for me as I was for him, through thick and thin, good times and bad, a friend you could trust with your life.

"Jared and I spoke last week as we often did. He sounded so positive, healthy in his heart, in his mind, in his body.

"Jared worked so hard to accomplish all his goals in life and his dreams. We always talked about the good 'ole times and how great it would be to play together again someday. How Jared, Derek and I did so much together and lived a dream that so many wish to live. These times I will always cherish.

"Jared will always be a part of me for the rest of my life. I will never forget the friend he was to me and the endless devotion and loyalty he had for his fans, friends and family. I will always be grateful to have had Jared be such a big part of my life.

"I shall carry on your memory forever, your music will live on forever, your spirit will live on forever.

"Let us rejoice in all he did in his life and for the lives around him that he ever so touched. Now it is time for me to go support the Anderson family in their time of need and do one of the hardest things I have ever done — put my best friend to eternal rest.

"You will never be forgotten, my friend. May you find peace!!! I love you brother!!"

As previously reported, funeral services for Jared Anderson will be held Thursday, October 19 at the Funeral Home. Interment Pierce Township Cemetery in Ohio.

Jared Anderson was most recently working on a project which was known by its alias AS ONE...

Back in February 2006, former MORBID ANGEL bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker confirmed that he and Anderson were collaborating on new material in the "death metal" vein.

Crucial Blast Signs Microwaves and Black Elk

Crucial Blast Records has announced the addition of two bands to their roster, Microwaves and Black Elk.

Pittsburgh's Microwaves features drummer John Roman (ex-1985), guitarist/vocalist David Kuzy, and bassist Adam MacGregor (ex-Creation Is Crucifixion). Here's a description from the label: "In the anti-tradition of whitebread Bay Area thrash metal, the violent morass of New York no wave, and a familiarity with Ralph Records insanity, Microwaves draws from a palette that is somehow as wide as it seems limited. " The band's new album, "Contagion Heuristic," will hit streets in November through Crucial Blast. You can check out some of their material online here.

Meanwhile, Portland, OR outfit Black Elk plays a "creeped out conglom of carnivorous charred hardcore punk, the sludgy power of primo Pacific Northwest tarpit rawk (think Karp, Melvins, and early Soundgarden as reference points), twitchy Midwestern noise rage somewhere between Am Rep Records (circa-1991) and a more rabid Die Kreuzen, and a goatheaded psychedelic backwoods black mass/dance party risen to a freakin' fever pitch." Black Elk's new ten-song album was produced at Smegma Studios by Mike Lastra and will hit stores on November 7th. You can check them out here.

Scumdogs of the Universe, Gwar, Invade NJ

The mighty Scumdogs of the Universe, otherwise known as Gwar, invaded the Starland Ballroom of Sayreville, NJ this past Sunday, October the 15th. This Gwar conquest was the first of Gwar's that my friend and I had witnessed. Before Gwar began their set though, The Red Chord and Municipal Waste had the honors of the opening ceremony.

Municipal Waste started off. I had heard of them through a friend that directed me to their myspace page. From that, I knew that Municipal Waste was a decent band, but after watching them spread their toxic thrash, I must say that I was thoroughly impressed. Municipal Waste’s first two songs were only ok, but after that their intense energy and quality music got me into them. Municipal Waste impressed me at the end of their set by taking out a boogie board and the singer climbed on top of it as the crowd kept it up and he stood up on it and finished out the set on the boogie board, literally crowd surfing. I thought that would be a hard act to follow, but I knew Gwar was going to be able to; they’re intergalactic warriors after all. But before that, The Red Chord came on. More...

Panchrysia Finishing Writing, Plan Studio Time

Belgian modern black metal formation PANCHRYSIA have issued the following update:

They enter the Dungeon Studios (Serge Impens) at the beginning of november. In January, Web and Zahrim head north to enter the Swedish Endarker Studios. Could we have chosen a nicer period of the year to put our winterchilling chords on track? Both recording guitars and mixing are in the hands of Magnus 'Devo' Anderson (MARDUK)."
