Polaris Guitarist Passes Away Aged 26
Australian metalcore band Polaris has announced that their guitarist Ryan Siew has tragically died at the age of 26. A statement from the band reads as follows:
"It is with shattered hearts & the deepest sorrow that we tell you our dear brother and bandmate Ryan Siew passed away on the morning of Monday June 19. He was 26 years old, and for 10 incredible years he was our best friend and artistic soulmate. Those years will never be enough. He was kindhearted and clever, he was funny and brave and creative, and he was talented beyond all measure. He loved art, and beauty in all its forms. He loved great food in great company. He loved Harry Potter and psych-thrillers and crime documentaries. He loved music, more diversely than you could ever imagine, and spoke its language in ways that only the rarest among us do. And most of all, he loved & adored his family & friends. He was also much admired and beloved by so many. Ryan, we will love and miss you for the rest of our days, and we will never fill the hole that you leave in all of our lives.
"Our hearts are with his family first and foremost, but also with all those whose lives he touched. We ask that you please respect the wishes of Ryan’s family for privacy at this time, and likewise that you give us, our team and family the space to grieve & attempt to heal from this immeasurable loss. We know that you will be grieving with us and that we, and our community, will hold each other through this.
"In loving memory of Ryan Siew

Final Gasp Reveals Debut Album Details
Boston’s Final Gasp have signed to Relapse, and will unleash their debut album, "Mourning Moon," on September 22. A harrowing journey through all things hardcore, metal, and goth, "Mourning Moon" drags the listener through twelve thrilling tracks. Vocalist and guitarist Jake Murphy delivers an unmatched, soulful performance while taking on the weightiest of topics.
"The whole record has to do with loss,” he explains. “The title comes from that anxious feeling you have when you go to bed and you’re thinking about everything all at once. You’re regretting decisions you’ve made - or didn’t make - and you’re up all night thinking about it."
"Mourning Moon’s" hook-laden title track explodes out of the underground and aims straight for the stars. It’s downright catchy and showcases Final Gasp’s knack for expert songwriting and lyrical craft.
"'Mourning Moon' professes eternal love through a lens clad in black and morbid as ever, dripping in melancholy while being propelled forward by a cavernous beat. “I wrote this song for someone but it ended up being about so many people who are either here or gone. It’s a love letter to loss," Murphy explains.
The lead single is available today accompanied by a cinematic video shot in the North Shore of Massachusetts, and directed by Caleb Gowett. He tells, "Dumah and Azrael have been banished from Heaven. Azrael on the Earth realm, and Dumah below. Azrael must trick the mourning Groom into helping him summon Dumah. But first Dumah will need an earthly body. The Groom’s recently deceased Bride will do just fine. Azrael and the Groom complete the summoning ritual and bring Dumah to the Earth realm. Reunited again, the Angels of Death light the flames of war and begin their reign over Earth. Destroying humanity one soul at a time."

Asking Alexandria Cancels Remaining Tour Dates
English metalcore band Asking Alexandria has been forced to cancel their remaining European tour dates. A message from the band reads as follows:
"After seeing another specialist here in Estonia it has been advised that (drummer) James (Cassells) rests his broken foot. Playing drums is just not an option for him at this current time. With that being said we have been given no choice but to cancel the rest of this European tour.
"Our main concern now is getting James back on his feet and playing drums again without causing any long term damage in the process.
"Again, we want to thank all of you for your love, support and understanding during this trying time. Delivering this kind of news is never easy so it really does mean the world us."
Metalite To Release New Album In January
Metalite has released a new single named "Disciples Of The Stars," out now, the first track taken from new album "Expedition One," out January 2024 on AFM Records. You can check it out below, along with a concept trailer for the record.
In order to translate the vision of a thoroughly impressive concept album into reality, a band requires not only an exciting theme and a number of haunting songs but also plenty of musical experience and skill. All these criteria apply to Expedition One, that tells a fictitious story about life on our planet in the year 2055.
"Expedition One" inspires with a wide range of diverse compositions and an intelligent sci-fi story that couldn’t be more topical. In addition, their fourth release manifests the musicians’ amazing artistic development. Metalite's visionary sci-fi trip is told over sixteen multi-faceted songs that combine the quintet’s many strengths: powerful and at the same time delicate guitar riffs and solos, anthemic melodies courtesy of vocalist Erica Ohlsson, driving rhythms and cleverly positioned keyboard parts.
"In the past four or five years, our sound has evolved considerably,” explains Edwin Premberg, mastermind and producer of the band, which was founded in 2015. “The quality of our production in particular has progressed considerably since our debut." More...

Plaguemace Inks Deal With Napalm Records
Danish death metal act Plaguemace have inked a worldwide record deal with premier Austrian rock and metal label Napalm Records! The neck-bending old school death metal band was formed in 2019 in the heart of Denmark by vocalist Andreas Truelsen and guitarist Simon Truelsen. Soon, the two brothers were joined by Anton Holm Smidstrup on second guitar and vocals, Ruben Brandt on bass and Matias Zacho on drums. The quintet released their six-track EP, "Primal Priest," in November 2020.
Plaguemace's thrashy death’n’roll is spiced up with bombastic melodies, brutal breakdowns and infectious grooves, reminiscent of bands such as Grave, High on Fire, Entombed and Obituary. The outfit’s ferocious energy and dirty riffs are unleashed on stage in a vicious vortex of guitar shreds, headbanging and pure lunacy. As the pandemic loosened its tight grip on the world, the band began performing live, and within that first year, they played 25 concerts in total. The performances included support slots for bands such as Baest, Katla and Crocell, and appearances at festivals such as Metal Magic and Tornvang Open Air.
Stay tuned for news on Plaguemace’s debut album! More...
1476 Posts New Music Video Online
Salem's lot, 1476, have unveiled an magical video clip for the track "Jade Fire: A Parago"' as the final single taken from the wayward occult rockers' forthcoming album "In Exile", which is scheduled for release on July 7, 2023. You can check it out below.
1476 comments: "The track 'Jade Fire: A Paragon' is one of the songs that I'm most emotionally connected to on the album", singer and multi-instrumentalist Robb Kavjian tells. "I've never felt like I belonged in this world and that's something that I've wrestled with my entire life. This song is about letting go of that struggle and embracing my individualism – finding peace by going deeper into it instead of making it a source of anxiety and loneliness. Choosing the wilderness instead of the world. A self-imposed exile. This was very much inspired by parts of the Arthurian legend. We shot the video on film with a Super 8 camera, because I love the look of film and I wanted to do it in an authentic way. As with many aspects of 'In Exile', this choice was a way of separating ourselves from the modern world and embracing our outsider qualities instead of compromising them." More...

Darkher Uploads Soundgarden Cover
Darkher presents an incredibly beautiful rendering of that in many ways most tragic Soundgarden song "Like Suicide," which is carried by Jayn Maiven's magical voice and haunting instrumentation. The mysterious British artist has furthermore illustrated this touching song with a brilliant video.
More information about the forthcoming MER Redux Series installment "Superunknown Redux" can be found below. The massive double album has been scheduled for release on July 14.
Darkher comments: "When I was approached for my own rendition of 'Like Suicide' by Soundgarden, I felt it was important to do a version which sensitively captured the spirit of the original song", singer and multi-instrumentalist Jayn Maiven explains. "Yet I also decided to take the lyrics musically on a different journey."
Jadd Shickler adds: "The death of Chris Cornell hit fans and musicians like a bomb, myself included", the label manager writes. "In an inexplicable way, it felt almost like I'd lost a personal friend. I did not actually know him, but there was so much longing and melancholy in a lot of his music that one could almost feel that he'd spent his life fighting to hold himself together and eventually just couldn't fight anymore. When the time came to assemble the artists to re-imagine 'Superunknown', it felt important to make a statement about losing him, so I specifically asked Darkher to consider taking on 'Like Suicide'. I knew that her delicate, haunting nature would recast this song as something more tragic and amplify the visceral sense of loss that so many of us feel about Chris being gone. And just as I expected, her rendition is a perfectly heartbroken goodbye."
"Superunknown Redux" tracklisting:
1. Ufomammut - Let Me Drown
2. High Priest feat. Bobby Ferry (16) - My Wave
3. Marissa Nadler - Fell On Black Days
4. Somnuri - Mailman
5. Valley of the Sun - "Superunknown"

I really love playing music with these talented guys and believe this current line-up is absolutely killer! I’ve been dreaming about this album for a long time, since we started writing it! Sharing it with the world is so exciting! I consider Legends to be the best music I’ve written with Sergio so far! Get ready, Metalheads!"
"I think this album is a higher level, a perfect evolution from the first,” continues Sergio Mazul, who wrote all of the album’s lyrics and co-produced Legends with along with Gelbcke. “More epic inspirations for lyrics and melodies, powerful chorus and tons of pure Heavy Metal guitar riffs. I’m sure that any kind of Metal fan - from the old school headbanger to the new generation of metalheads - will find this album a must and enjoy each one of the songs. Also, it’s one of my best musical works so far! I always give my soul in Semblant, StormWarning, and Icon Of Sin, and I’m really proud of the results that we reached. Keep Of Kalessin Releases New Lyric Video
The pioneers of Epic Extreme Metal, Keep Of Kalessin has released a new lyric video for their track "The Omni" taken from their latest opus "Katharsis."
Katharsis has reeceived high acclaim in the metalscene worldwide including top reviews and was even coined "Album Of The Month" in the March issue of Norway‘s #1 Metal Mag, Scream Magazine!
"The Omni" is among many fans of epic music considered as one of the greatest tracks on the album and the lyrics on this track are especially interesting.
Keep Of Kalessin founder and front man Arnt Obsidian comments:
"The Omni was one of those tracks where I truly believed in the song, but was struggling a bit to really capture the grand atmosphere with some great lyrics. And it wasn‘t until I spent 5 weeks alone in Spain during the pandemic that I felt I was able to get those emotional and epic lyrics to fit the song.
"During that time, I had a lot of time to think and contemplate. It was also at the same time when I had hit a low point in my life, but one night I was listening to the demo of the track and as I was looking up on to the night sky I started creating these lyrics. I saw the stars so clearly and started thinking about how we are all created from the same stardust and how insane it is to think about how the universe is put together, and how we are actually there in essence looking back at ourselves. It was almost as if I saw my own face in the sky looking back at me when the quote from my all time favourite sci-fi show Babylon 5 came to mind: We are the universe made manifest, looking back at itself, trying to figure itself out.
"And I kinda based the lyrics around that because it‘s so powerful, but also as a tribute to one of my favourite shows of all time.
"I personally think the lyrics for 'The Omni' is something truly special. At least it is for me and it hopefully makes you think a little more than the common metal lyrics in today‘s scene.
"So we decided to put together a lyric video to emphasize this and I hope people will enjoy it and I think some people who take the time to really listen and understand the track will have a truly emotional time with 'The Omni'" More...
Frozen Crown Signs With Napalm Records
Italian power metal band Frozen Crown have inked a worldwide contract with Napalm Records! The five-piece was founded in 2018, and have since become one of the most influential Italian metal bands in the current scene. So far, Frozen Crown have released four albums - "The Fallen King" (2018), "Crowned In Frost" (2019), "Winterbane" (2021) and this year’s "Call Of The North" - which have brought the band huge media exposure, millions of streams and video views, and big European tours with the likes of Dragonforce and Nanowar Of Steel, as well as two headlining tours in Japan.
Their current album "Call Of The North" is Frozen Crown’s most mature work so far, showcasing the best of the band’s unique power metal style infused with classic heavy metal, melodic death metal and speed metal influences, all topped with bombastic production highlighting opulent orchestrations and harmonies.
Frozen Crown on the signing:
"We're happy and honored to join the Napalm Records family and we're ready for our next big step together! Since we founded this band in 2018 we worked hard incessantly, day after day, not only trying to put our best in our studio albums and live, but also managing the band all by ourselves, conquering every single little accomplishment with our DIY attitude, always keeping loyal to our (extremely) small entourage. Thanks to the support of our lovely fans, Frozen Crown eventually grew bigger, and got to a point where we were not able to handle it all by ourselves anymore. At the same time, we knew we needed more firepower to push the band further and bring it to the next level. And speaking of firepower, Napalm Records was just the best record label to start this new chapter with!!! We're excited beyond words to be part of the best metal label in the world, and we can't wait to start working together on our new album, joining forces with this huge team of professionals!"
Sebastian Muench, Senior A&R Napalm Records, adds:
"Frozen Crown are simply one of the most creative power metal bands to emerge in the last five years. Their previous releases, Winterbane and Call Of The North, are brilliant. We look forward to working with Frozen Crown to reach the next level in their career.”
