U.D.O. Releases "Forever Free" Lyric Video
Heavy metal quintet U.D.O. -- fronted by legendary singer Udo Dirkschneider and officially completed by former Accept bassist Peter Baltes in April -- recently announced their new studio album entitled »Touchdown,« due out on August 25, 2023 via Atomic Fire Records. It features 13 tracks which cement the fact that the group surely belongs to the all-star team of the scene. Currently, U.D.O., who are also performing as Dirkschneider, are entering the stages of the biggest European festivals (Graspop Metal Meeting (BE), Leyendas del Rock (ES), Summer Breeze Open Air (DE) etc.) to perform in front of their loyal worldwide fan base, making the band feel that each and every of their concerts is a home game and today, the new musical season has also kicked off: With the digital "Forever Free" single from their upcoming offering, U.D.O. sound the first attack, supported by a lyric video which can be watched via the link below. And since all good things come in threes, "Touchdown" can now finally be pre-ordered!
Drummer Sven Dirkschneider explains the meaning behind the song: "'Forever Free' is supposed to make people not simply believe facts they hear or get shown, for example by media, but to think individually. Of course, we don't mean that one should question everything. The song shall just express that it's better to create own opinions about conflicts and other topics one stands for, even when they're wrong sometimes, than to follow the mass blindly. It's a musical tribute to our privilege of living in a free world as we luckily can." More...

Bloodbound Shares "Tales From The North" Video
Swedish power metal masters Bloodbound are currently gearing up for the release of their much-awaited, new studio offering entitled "Tales From The North." The band's tenth album will be coming out as a 2-CD digipak including a live CD, a strictly limited box set and coloured vinyl LPs on July 7, 2023 through AFM Records.
When it comes to defending the core values of timeless power metal and combining them with fresh stylistic variations and exciting stories, Bloodbound have always been fighting at the forefront. The six-piece has proven their versatility and inventiveness countless times. Following their much acclaimed, 2021-album, "Creatures Of The Dark Realm," "Tales From The North" will unquestionably continue to enthrall the metal community! As lead guitarist Tomas Olsson recently said:
"The songs are more fast-paced and closer to some of our earlier stuff like ’Moria’ and ’Nosferatu’, but have more complex arrangements. Compared to the predecessor 'Creatures Of The Dark Realm‘ there are heavier guitars and some deeper sounding keyboards. We have also incorporated some traditional Nordic folk music instruments to fit the concept of the album about the Viking era. It's still pure power metal but we’re trying to take it to the next level."
Following four previously-released album singles, "Odin’s Prayer", “The Raven's Cry", "1066" and "Drink with the Gods", today, Bloodbound are presenting a music video for the album title track "Tales From The North!"
Olsson comments: "This song is about the foundation of Norse mythology and cosmology. It describes the 9 worlds of Asgard and how the god Heimdall, who was the keeper and protector of bifrost (the rainbow bridge) could see everything. He carried all the stories and tales from the north. Musically the inspiration goes back to the old Helloween era." More...
Holding Absence Debuts "Honey Moon" Video
Holding Absence has released the video for "Honey Moon," the third single from their upcoming album The Noble Art Of Self Destruction." A lovesick ballad cut from a place of deep longing, "Honey Moon' offers serenely beautiful take on feelings of melancholia and loneliness.
Vocalist Lucas Woodland comments "'Honey Moon' is perhaps Holding Absence’s most beautiful song to date! A track inspired by the Pixies and Deftones - this is a lovesick poem that looks to the stars to portray a deep, isolated yearning for the love of another."

Mystic Festival 2023 - Day Two
I penciled in a ton of bands for the 2nd full day of Mystic Festival 2023. There were 8 in total but the question was, could I manage to pull it off along with bouncing back and forth between the photo pits? Something that I forgot to mention in my previous report was that the merch prices were higher this year than last. This isn’t a ding on the festival itself, but just the way it is nowadays. There were several bands this year that didn’t bring merchandise at all. Bands are coming to the consensus that it’s not worth passing the merch cuts that are paid to the festivals, onto the fans. Most of the T-shirts cost anywhere from $25 to $30 after you made the conversion from the Polish Zloty to U.S. dollars this year. This was up at least $5 from last year’s average shirt price.
The first band of the day for me was Sweden’s death metal legends, Dismember. I’ve always liked Dismember better than Entombed, so the fact that they are an active band again is incredulous and much needed in the copy/paste death metal omniverse today. The front row was already raging by the time I made it to the photo pit. They started their set with “Overide Of The Overture” and never looked back. Their chainsaw death metal formula has never changed over the past 30 years and this is why their fans are so loyal. Matti Kärki’s smile is a pretty good indication that they aren’t going into hibernation again anytime soon.
Next up was Planet of Zeus, Greece’s own version of the band Clutch. This was my first time seeing them and I loved the energy they put out. They were playing with so much vigor, you could have sworn they were on one of the larger stages. The smallish, outdoor Desert Stage area was full of onlookers, so I assume that they have a decent following in Poland. I’m hoping to catch a full set from them sometime on their home turf in Greece.
I made my way to the larger indoor venue for the festival, the Shrine Stage. Even though this venue is about double the size of the Sabbath Stage, it was still cramped and steamy during Grave’s brutal set. Grave’s non-wavering formula of meat grinding stripped down death metal still appeals to today’s death metal crowd. Bassist Tobias Cristiansson didn’t need much effort to fire up the crowd during their set, but his spiked gauntlets and towering frame were sufficient fuel to keep the Grave death metal inferno going throughout their set.
