Singapore's long-running Vedic metallers Rudra have completed work on their forthcoming as-yet-untitled album, which according to that band will be the second installment in the "Brahmavidya" trilogy. The album will be mixed by Joshua and Sean of Black Isle Studios and mastered by the indomitable Alan Douches (Nile, Mastadon, Sepultura, every album ever). The band is aiming for a January 2009 release on Trinity Records Hong Kong. Known for their trailblazing approach to extreme metal (that of combining traditional classical Indian melodies with a potent blend of black metal, thrash and death), Rudra are already hard at work on their next album, the third and final chapter of the trilogy, and promise to deliver a "fusion Vedic metal rock" album.
Dillinger Escape Plan Releases New Material Update
They hinted at it before, but now Dillinger Escape Plan has confirmed they are working on new stuff, issuing the following update:
"Ben Weinman [guitar] has been holed up like a mad scientist blasting out the furious DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN insanity that will eventually find its way onto our next release. When Ben says that the stuff he's been writing has actually been giving HIM a headache, you know it's gonna be pretty intense.
"We have no touring plans for the immediate future, but you can be sure that we'll take a break from writing at around the halfway point and head out for some quick runs, so that we don't lose our minds (probably too late)."

Gojira Posts New Video "Vacuity" Online
Prog-metal colossus Gojira have finally unleashed the video for "Vacuity," the first single for their skull-crushing new album The Way of All Flesh. Filmed by directors Julien Mokrani and Samuel Bodin with a RED video camera (the type used by Peter Jackson in the Lord of the Rings series,) "Vacuity" was described by guitarist/vocalist Joseph Duplantier to UK's Rock Sound magazine as being "about the Buddhist meaning of the word which is emptiness not nothingness, the ultimate presence. It was very hard to picture that concept in a video so we told the story of a girl carrying her own casket as the whole album is about facing your death and your pain." More...

Ephel Duath Releases More Album Details
Progressive metal's best Italian trio, the bizarre, jazz heavy, avant-garde experimentalists in EPHEL DUATH , have revealed a release date for their forthcoming followup to Pain Necessary To Know . The band have confirmed a January 26, 2009 release for their long-anticipated fourth studio album, Through My Dog's Eyes , through Earache Records. Over the past couple albums, EPHEL DUATH has progressed through a number of (..pardon the pun..) palettes and have never failed to bring something new to the world of music. From the forward thinking progressive-influenced black metal of their early albums, to the off-time chaos of The Painter's Palette , to the spacecy avant-garde jams of their most recent album, EPHEL DUATH always keeps everyone - including themselves, it often seems - guessing about where they'll take their sound next. Thanks to a profoundly unique vision, it appears that the band's next album will not be an out of line with this trend…
Through My Dog's Eyes is a based around a left-of-center concept, created by guitarist and founding member Davide Tiso, in which the entire album is written from the perspective of a dog. "I wrote a few short stories and it was really fun for me to imagine myself as a dog and to imagine the world from a dog's perspective," says Tiso. "The challenge was to translate the words into lyrics. Every song is a window into the dog's mind or an event. The album touches on a lot of things, both deep and sometimes silly." And it's not simply the lyrics in Through My Dog's Eyes that are written from the dog's perspective - but rather the entire album, including the arrangement, is based around this concept. "The music in this case is the soundtrack of the thoughts of the dog - at times you can hear the dog running," Tiso elaborates.
The lineup behind EPHEL DUATH has shifted considerably over the past several years, but through it all the foundation has remained solid. Furthermore, their commitment to musical mastery has continued and their ability to experiment with sounds and concepts has expanded. Additionally, both drummer Marco Minneman of NECROPHAGIST and DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN 's guitarist Benjamin Weinman contributed to the album as well. Bandleader Davide Tiso has a clear vision for the future, and even if it is a bit weird, I think we should trust where EPHEL DUATH is about to take us this time and just go along for the "walk". Tiso's description of his album closes, "I see the dog as an animal really full of energy. I imagine this dog, the dog on the album, as a little cantankerous and mischievous."

Cannibal Corpse Bassist Posts New Studio Update
Cannibal Corpse Bassist Alex Webster has posted the following studip update:
"Hello everyone, Alex from Cannibal Corpse here checking in again from Mana Studios in St. Petersburg Florida. The last time you heard from us Paul had just finished the drum tracking, and we've made a lot of progress since then. Here's a brief rundown:
The rhythm guitar recording was the next part of the session. We spent a lot of time on it, both on attaining a crushing sound, and also on achieving airtight performances. The tracking was a lot of hard work for Pat and Rob, but the end result was well worth the effort. They did an amazing job and I think you'll all be impressed with the results.
Next up was the bass tracking, and again we worked hard to get a great sound and great performances. Producer Erik Rutan oversaw the tracking and made sure he got the best performance I was capable of, just as he did with Rob and Pat on the rhythm guitar. I can say for sure that the bass and rhythm guitar have never been tighter on any Cannibal Corpse album.
"Currently, George is working on tracking the vocals, and he is a little over halfway done. He's had a few parts to sing that were unbelievably fast, but so far he's been more than up to the task. His voice is sounding brutal and holding up well, so we should be done tracking the vocals in the next few days. Pat has already started working on guitar solos as well, but the majority of the solos will be recorded after the vocals are complete.
"So, that's about it for now. We are all extremely excited with how this album is shaping up. We wanted to make an ultra heavy and precise album, and so far that's the way it's been going. Next up is the mix, and we're confident Erik will make this the heaviest sounding Cannibal Corpse album yet. Check back for a final update when the mix is complete."
